Quoting the Holy Qur’an:

“And to rehearse the Qur'an: and if any accept guidance, they do it for the good of their own souls, and if any stray, say: "I am only a Warner".
An-Naml, Chapter #27, Verse #92)

Juzu' 18

The eighteenth juz’ of the Qur’an starts from the first verse of the 23rd chapter (Al Muminoon 23:1) and continues to verse 25 of the 25th chapter (Al Furqan 25:25).

The first part of this section (Surah Al-Muminoon) was largely revealed in the middle of the Makkan period, as the Muslim community faced rejection and intimidation from the pagan population and leadership of Makkah. The latter part of this section (Surah An-Nur) was revealed in approximately 6 H., around the time of the Battle of the Trench.

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Transliteration

Bismi Allahi arrahmani arraheem

Yusuf Ali

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

قَدْ أَفْلَحَ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ

Transliteration

Qad aflaha almu/minoon

Yusuf Ali

The believers must (eventually) win through,-

23:1

الَّذِينَ هُمْ فِي صَلَاتِهِمْ خَاشِعُونَ

Transliteration

Allatheena hum fee salatihimkhashiAAoon

Yusuf Ali

Those who humble themselves in their prayers;

23:2

وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ عَنِ اللَّغْوِ مُعْرِضُونَ

Transliteration

Wallatheena hum AAani allaghwimuAAridoon

Yusuf Ali

Who avoid vain talk;

23:3

وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِلزَّكَاةِ فَاعِلُونَ

Transliteration

Wallatheena hum lizzakatifaAAiloon

Yusuf Ali

Who are active in deeds of charity;

23:4

وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَافِظُونَ

Transliteration

Wallatheena hum lifuroojihim hafithoon

Yusuf Ali

Who abstain from sex,

23:5

إِلَّا عَلَىٰ أَزْوَاجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ

Transliteration

Illa AAala azwajihim awma malakat aymanuhum fa-innahum ghayru maloomeen

Yusuf Ali

Except with those joined to them in the marriage bond, or (the captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (in their case) they are free from blame,

23:6

فَمَنِ ابْتَغَىٰ وَرَاءَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْعَادُونَ

Transliteration

Famani ibtagha waraa thalikafaola-ika humu alAAadoon

Yusuf Ali

But those whose desires exceed those limits are transgressors;-

23:7

وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِأَمَانَاتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَاعُونَ

Transliteration

Wallatheena hum li-amanatihimwaAAahdihim raAAoon

Yusuf Ali

Those who faithfully observe their trusts and their covenants;

23:8

وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَوَاتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَ

Transliteration

Wallatheena hum AAala salawatihimyuhafithoon

Yusuf Ali

And who (strictly) guard their prayers;-

23:9

أُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْوَارِثُونَ

Transliteration

Ola-ika humu alwarithoon

Yusuf Ali

These will be the heirs,

23:10

الَّذِينَ يَرِثُونَ الْفِرْدَوْسَ هُمْ فِيهَا خَالِدُونَ

Transliteration

Allatheena yarithoona alfirdawsa humfeeha khalidoon

Yusuf Ali

Who will inherit Paradise: they will dwell therein (for ever).

23:11

وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا الْإِنْسَانَ مِنْ سُلَالَةٍ مِنْ طِينٍ

Transliteration

Walaqad khalaqna al-insana minsulalatin min teen

Yusuf Ali

Man We did create from a quintessence (of clay);

23:12

ثُمَّ جَعَلْنَاهُ نُطْفَةً فِي قَرَارٍ مَكِينٍ

Transliteration

Thumma jaAAalnahu nutfatan feeqararin makeen

Yusuf Ali

Then We placed him as (a drop of) sperm in a place of rest, firmly fixed;

23:13

ثُمَّ خَلَقْنَا النُّطْفَةَ عَلَقَةً فَخَلَقْنَا الْعَلَقَةَ مُضْغَةً فَخَلَقْنَا الْمُضْغَةَ عِظَامًا فَكَسَوْنَا الْعِظَامَ لَحْمًا ثُمَّ أَنْشَأْنَاهُ خَلْقًا آخَرَ ۚ فَتَبَارَكَ اللَّهُ أَحْسَنُ الْخَالِقِينَ

Transliteration

Thumma khalaqna annutfataAAalaqatan fakhalaqna alAAalaqata mudghatanfakhalaqna almudghata AAithamanfakasawna alAAithama lahmanthumma ansha/nahu khalqan akhara fatabarakaAllahu ahsanu alkhaliqeen

Yusuf Ali

Then We made the sperm into a clot of congealed blood; then of that clot We made a (foetus) lump; then we made out of that lump bones and clothed the bones with flesh; then we developed out of it another creature. So blessed be Allah, the best to create!

23:14

ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ لَمَيِّتُونَ

Transliteration

Thumma innakum baAAda thalikalamayyitoon

Yusuf Ali

After that, at length ye will die

23:15

ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ تُبْعَثُونَ

Transliteration

Thumma innakum yawma alqiyamatitubAAathoon

Yusuf Ali

Again, on the Day of Judgment, will ye be raised up.

23:16

وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا فَوْقَكُمْ سَبْعَ طَرَائِقَ وَمَا كُنَّا عَنِ الْخَلْقِ غَافِلِينَ

Transliteration

Walaqad khalaqna fawqakum sabAAa tara-iqawama kunna AAani alkhalqi ghafileen

Yusuf Ali

And We have made, above you, seven tracts; and We are never unmindful of (our) Creation.

23:17

وَأَنْزَلْنَا مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَاءً بِقَدَرٍ فَأَسْكَنَّاهُ فِي الْأَرْضِ ۖ وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰ ذَهَابٍ بِهِ لَقَادِرُونَ

Transliteration

Waanzalna mina assama-imaan biqadarin faaskannahu fee al-ardiwa-inna AAala thahabin bihi laqadiroon

Yusuf Ali

And We send down water from the sky according to (due) measure, and We cause it to soak in the soil; and We certainly are able to drain it off (with ease).

23:18

فَأَنْشَأْنَا لَكُمْ بِهِ جَنَّاتٍ مِنْ نَخِيلٍ وَأَعْنَابٍ لَكُمْ فِيهَا فَوَاكِهُ كَثِيرَةٌ وَمِنْهَا تَأْكُلُونَ

Transliteration

Faansha/na lakum bihi jannatinmin nakheelin waaAAnabin lakum feeha fawakihukatheeratun waminha ta/kuloon

Yusuf Ali

With it We grow for you gardens of date-palms and vines: in them have ye abundant fruits: and of them ye eat (and have enjoyment),-

23:19

وَشَجَرَةً تَخْرُجُ مِنْ طُورِ سَيْنَاءَ تَنْبُتُ بِالدُّهْنِ وَصِبْغٍ لِلْآكِلِينَ

Transliteration

Washajaratan takhruju min toori saynaatanbutu bidduhni wasibghin lilakileen

Yusuf Ali

Also a tree springing out of Mount Sinai, which produces oil, and relish for those who use it for food.

23:20

وَإِنَّ لَكُمْ فِي الْأَنْعَامِ لَعِبْرَةً ۖ نُسْقِيكُمْ مِمَّا فِي بُطُونِهَا وَلَكُمْ فِيهَا مَنَافِعُ كَثِيرَةٌ وَمِنْهَا تَأْكُلُونَ

Transliteration

Wa-inna lakum fee al-anAAamilaAAibratan nusqeekum mimma fee butoonihawalakum feeha manafiAAu katheeratun waminhata/kuloon

Yusuf Ali

And in cattle (too) ye have an instructive example: from within their bodies We produce (milk) for you to drink; there are, in them, (besides), numerous (other) benefits for you; and of their (meat) ye eat;

23:21

وَعَلَيْهَا وَعَلَى الْفُلْكِ تُحْمَلُونَ

Transliteration

WaAAalayha waAAala alfulki tuhmaloon

Yusuf Ali

An on them, as well as in slips, ye side.

23:22

وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِ فَقَالَ يَا قَوْمِ اعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ مَا لَكُمْ مِنْ إِلَٰهٍ غَيْرُهُ ۖ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ

Transliteration

Walaqad arsalna noohan ilaqawmihi faqala ya qawmi oAAbudoo Allaha malakum min ilahin ghayruhu afala tattaqoon

Yusuf Ali

(Further, We sent a long line of prophets for your instruction). We sent Noah to his people: He said, "O my people! worship Allah! Ye have no other god but Him. Will ye not fear (Him)?"

23:23

فَقَالَ الْمَلَأُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ قَوْمِهِ مَا هَٰذَا إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِثْلُكُمْ يُرِيدُ أَنْ يَتَفَضَّلَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَلَوْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ لَأَنْزَلَ مَلَائِكَةً مَا سَمِعْنَا بِهَٰذَا فِي آبَائِنَا الْأَوَّلِينَ

Transliteration

Faqala almalao allatheenakafaroo min qawmihi ma hatha illa basharunmithlukum yureedu an yatafaddala AAalaykum walaw shaaAllahu laanzala mala-ikatan ma samiAAnabihatha fee aba-ina al-awwaleen

Yusuf Ali

The chiefs of the Unbelievers among his people said: "He is no more than a man like yourselves: his wish is to assert his superiority over you: if Allah had wished (to send messengers), He could have sent down angels; never did we hear such a thing (as he says), among our ancestors of old."

23:24

إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا رَجُلٌ بِهِ جِنَّةٌ فَتَرَبَّصُوا بِهِ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ

Transliteration

In huwa illa rajulun bihi jinnatunfatarabbasoo bihi hatta heen

Yusuf Ali

(And some said): "He is only a man possessed: wait (and have patience) with him for a time."

23:25

قَالَ رَبِّ انْصُرْنِي بِمَا كَذَّبُونِ

Transliteration

Qala rabbi onsurnee bimakaththaboon

Yusuf Ali

(Noah) said: "O my Lord! help me: for that they accuse me of falsehood!"

23:26

فَأَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْهِ أَنِ اصْنَعِ الْفُلْكَ بِأَعْيُنِنَا وَوَحْيِنَا فَإِذَا جَاءَ أَمْرُنَا وَفَارَ التَّنُّورُ ۙ فَاسْلُكْ فِيهَا مِنْ كُلٍّ زَوْجَيْنِ اثْنَيْنِ وَأَهْلَكَ إِلَّا مَنْ سَبَقَ عَلَيْهِ الْقَوْلُ مِنْهُمْ ۖ وَلَا تُخَاطِبْنِي فِي الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا ۖ إِنَّهُمْ مُغْرَقُونَ

Transliteration

Faawhayna ilayhi ani isnaAAialfulka bi-aAAyunina wawahyina fa-ithajaa amruna wafara attannooru faslukfeeha min kullin zawjayni ithnayni waahlaka illaman sabaqa AAalayhi alqawlu minhum wala tukhatibneefee allatheena thalamoo innahum mughraqoon

Yusuf Ali

So We inspired him (with this message): "Construct the Ark within Our sight and under Our guidance: then when comes Our Command, and the fountains of the earth gush forth, take thou on board pairs of every species, male and female, and thy family- except those of them against whom the Word has already gone forth: And address Me not in favour of the wrong-doers; for they shall be drowned (in the Flood).

23:27

فَإِذَا اسْتَوَيْتَ أَنْتَ وَمَنْ مَعَكَ عَلَى الْفُلْكِ فَقُلِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي نَجَّانَا مِنَ الْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ

Transliteration

Fa-itha istawayta anta waman maAAakaAAala alfulki faquli alhamdu lillahi allatheenajjana mina alqawmi aththalimeen

Yusuf Ali

And when thou hast embarked on the Ark - thou and those with thee,- say: "Praise be to Allah, Who has saved us from the people who do wrong."

23:28

وَقُلْ رَبِّ أَنْزِلْنِي مُنْزَلًا مُبَارَكًا وَأَنْتَ خَيْرُ الْمُنْزِلِينَ

Transliteration

Waqul rabbi anzilnee munzalan mubarakanwaanta khayru almunzileen

Yusuf Ali

And say: "O my Lord! enable me to disembark with thy blessing: for Thou art the Best to enable (us) to disembark."

23:29

إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَآيَاتٍ وَإِنْ كُنَّا لَمُبْتَلِينَ

Transliteration

Inna fee thalika laayatinwa-in kunna lamubtaleen

Yusuf Ali

Verily in this there are Signs (for men to understand); (thus) do We try (men).

23:30

ثُمَّ أَنْشَأْنَا مِنْ بَعْدِهِمْ قَرْنًا آخَرِينَ

Transliteration

Thumma ansha/na min baAAdihim qarnan akhareen

Yusuf Ali

Then We raised after them another generation.

23:31

فَأَرْسَلْنَا فِيهِمْ رَسُولًا مِنْهُمْ أَنِ اعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ مَا لَكُمْ مِنْ إِلَٰهٍ غَيْرُهُ ۖ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ

Transliteration

Faarsalna feehim rasoolan minhum anioAAbudoo Allaha ma lakum min ilahin ghayruhuafala tattaqoon

Yusuf Ali

And We sent to them a messenger from among themselves, (saying), "Worship Allah! ye have no other god but Him. Will ye not fear (Him)?"

23:32

وَقَالَ الْمَلَأُ مِنْ قَوْمِهِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا وَكَذَّبُوا بِلِقَاءِ الْآخِرَةِ وَأَتْرَفْنَاهُمْ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا مَا هَٰذَا إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِثْلُكُمْ يَأْكُلُ مِمَّا تَأْكُلُونَ مِنْهُ وَيَشْرَبُ مِمَّا تَشْرَبُونَ

Transliteration

Waqala almalao min qawmihi allatheenakafaroo wakaththaboo biliqa-i al-akhiratiwaatrafnahum fee alhayati addunyama hatha illa basharun mithlukum ya/kulumimma ta/kuloona minhu wayashrabu mimma tashraboon

Yusuf Ali

And the chiefs of his people, who disbelieved and denied the Meeting in the Hereafter, and on whom We had bestowed the good things of this life, said: "He is no more than a man like yourselves: he eats of that of which ye eat, and drinks of what ye drink.

23:33

وَلَئِنْ أَطَعْتُمْ بَشَرًا مِثْلَكُمْ إِنَّكُمْ إِذًا لَخَاسِرُونَ

Transliteration

Wala-in ataAAtum basharan mithlakuminnakum ithan lakhasiroon

Yusuf Ali

"If ye obey a man like yourselves, behold, it is certain ye will be lost.

23:34

أَيَعِدُكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ إِذَا مِتُّمْ وَكُنْتُمْ تُرَابًا وَعِظَامًا أَنَّكُمْ مُخْرَجُونَ

Transliteration

AyaAAidukum annakum itha mittumwakuntum turaban waAAithaman annakummukhrajoon

Yusuf Ali

"Does he promise that when ye die and become dust and bones, ye shall be brought forth (again)?

23:35

۞ هَيْهَاتَ هَيْهَاتَ لِمَا تُوعَدُونَ

Transliteration

Hayhata hayhata limatooAAadoon

Yusuf Ali

"Far, very far is that which ye are promised!

23:36

إِنْ هِيَ إِلَّا حَيَاتُنَا الدُّنْيَا نَمُوتُ وَنَحْيَا وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَبْعُوثِينَ

Transliteration

In hiya illa hayatunaaddunya namootu wanahya wamanahnu bimabAAootheen

Yusuf Ali

"There is nothing but our life in this world! We shall die and we live! But we shall never be raised up again!

23:37

إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا رَجُلٌ افْتَرَىٰ عَلَى اللَّهِ كَذِبًا وَمَا نَحْنُ لَهُ بِمُؤْمِنِينَ

Transliteration

In huwa illa rajulun iftaraAAala Allahi kathiban wama nahnulahu bimu/mineen

Yusuf Ali

"He is only a man who invents a lie against Allah, but we are not the ones to believe in him!"

23:38

قَالَ رَبِّ انْصُرْنِي بِمَا كَذَّبُونِ

Transliteration

Qala rabbi onsurnee bimakaththaboon

Yusuf Ali

(The prophet) said: "O my Lord! help me: for that they accuse me of falsehood."

23:39

قَالَ عَمَّا قَلِيلٍ لَيُصْبِحُنَّ نَادِمِينَ

Transliteration

Qala AAamma qaleelin layusbihunnanadimeen

Yusuf Ali

(Allah) said: "In but a little while, they are sure to be sorry!"

23:40

فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ الصَّيْحَةُ بِالْحَقِّ فَجَعَلْنَاهُمْ غُثَاءً ۚ فَبُعْدًا لِلْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ

Transliteration

Faakhathat-humu assayhatubilhaqqi fajaAAalnahum ghuthaanfabuAAdan lilqawmi aththalimeen

Yusuf Ali

Then the Blast overtook them with justice, and We made them as rubbish of dead leaves (floating on the stream of Time)! So away with the people who do wrong!

23:41

ثُمَّ أَنْشَأْنَا مِنْ بَعْدِهِمْ قُرُونًا آخَرِينَ

Transliteration

Thumma ansha/na min baAAdihimquroonan akhareen

Yusuf Ali

Then We raised after them other generations.

23:42

مَا تَسْبِقُ مِنْ أُمَّةٍ أَجَلَهَا وَمَا يَسْتَأْخِرُونَ

Transliteration

Ma tasbiqu min ommatin ajalahawama yasta/khiroon

Yusuf Ali

No people can hasten their term, nor can they delay (it).

23:43

ثُمَّ أَرْسَلْنَا رُسُلَنَا تَتْرَىٰ ۖ كُلَّ مَا جَاءَ أُمَّةً رَسُولُهَا كَذَّبُوهُ ۚ فَأَتْبَعْنَا بَعْضَهُمْ بَعْضًا وَجَعَلْنَاهُمْ أَحَادِيثَ ۚ فَبُعْدًا لِقَوْمٍ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ

Transliteration

Thumma arsalna rusulana tatrakulla ma jaa ommatan rasooluha kaththaboohufaatbaAAna baAAdahum baAAdan wajaAAalnahumahadeetha fabuAAdan liqawmin la yu/minoon

Yusuf Ali

Then sent We our messengers in succession: every time there came to a people their messenger, they accused him of falsehood: so We made them follow each other (in punishment): We made them as a tale (that is told): So away with a people that will not believe!

23:44

ثُمَّ أَرْسَلْنَا مُوسَىٰ وَأَخَاهُ هَارُونَ بِآيَاتِنَا وَسُلْطَانٍ مُبِينٍ

Transliteration

Thumma arsalna moosa waakhahuharoona bi-ayatina wasultaninmubeen

Yusuf Ali

Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron, with Our Signs and authority manifest,

23:45

إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ وَمَلَئِهِ فَاسْتَكْبَرُوا وَكَانُوا قَوْمًا عَالِينَ

Transliteration

Ila firAAawna wamala-ihi fastakbaroowakanoo qawman AAaleen

Yusuf Ali

To Pharaoh and his Chiefs: But these behaved insolently: they were an arrogant people.

23:46

فَقَالُوا أَنُؤْمِنُ لِبَشَرَيْنِ مِثْلِنَا وَقَوْمُهُمَا لَنَا عَابِدُونَ

Transliteration

Faqaloo anu/minu libasharayni mithlinawaqawmuhuma lana AAabidoon

Yusuf Ali

They said: "Shall we believe in two men like ourselves? And their people are subject to us!"

23:47

فَكَذَّبُوهُمَا فَكَانُوا مِنَ الْمُهْلَكِينَ

Transliteration

Fakaththaboohuma fakanoomina almuhlakeen

Yusuf Ali

So they accused them of falsehood, and they became of those who were destroyed.

23:48

وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَا مُوسَى الْكِتَابَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَهْتَدُونَ

Transliteration

Walaqad atayna moosaalkitaba laAAallahum yahtadoon

Yusuf Ali

And We gave Moses the Book, in order that they might receive guidance.

23:49

وَجَعَلْنَا ابْنَ مَرْيَمَ وَأُمَّهُ آيَةً وَآوَيْنَاهُمَا إِلَىٰ رَبْوَةٍ ذَاتِ قَرَارٍ وَمَعِينٍ

Transliteration

WajaAAalna ibna maryama waommahu ayatanwaawaynahuma ila rabwatin thatiqararin wamaAAeen

Yusuf Ali

And We made the son of Mary and his mother as a Sign: We gave them both shelter on high ground, affording rest and security and furnished with springs.

23:50

يَا أَيُّهَا الرُّسُلُ كُلُوا مِنَ الطَّيِّبَاتِ وَاعْمَلُوا صَالِحًا ۖ إِنِّي بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ عَلِيمٌ

Transliteration

Ya ayyuha arrusulukuloo mina attayyibati waAAmaloo salihaninnee bima taAAmaloona AAaleem

Yusuf Ali

O ye messengers! enjoy (all) things good and pure, and work righteousness: for I am well-acquainted with (all) that ye do.

23:51

وَإِنَّ هَٰذِهِ أُمَّتُكُمْ أُمَّةً وَاحِدَةً وَأَنَا رَبُّكُمْ فَاتَّقُونِ

Transliteration

Wa-inna hathihi ommatukum ommatan wahidatanwaana rabbukum fattaqoon

Yusuf Ali

And verily this Brotherhood of yours is a single Brotherhood, and I am your Lord and Cherisher: therefore fear Me (and no other).

23:52

فَتَقَطَّعُوا أَمْرَهُمْ بَيْنَهُمْ زُبُرًا ۖ كُلُّ حِزْبٍ بِمَا لَدَيْهِمْ فَرِحُونَ

Transliteration

FataqattaAAoo amrahum baynahumzuburan kullu hizbin bima ladayhim farihoon

Yusuf Ali

But people have cut off their affair (of unity), between them, into sects: each party rejoices in that which is with itself.

23:53

فَذَرْهُمْ فِي غَمْرَتِهِمْ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ

Transliteration

Fatharhum fee ghamratihim hattaheen

Yusuf Ali

But leave them in their confused ignorance for a time.

23:54

أَيَحْسَبُونَ أَنَّمَا نُمِدُّهُمْ بِهِ مِنْ مَالٍ وَبَنِينَ

Transliteration

Ayahsaboona annama numidduhumbihi min malin wabaneen

Yusuf Ali

Do they think that because We have granted them abundance of wealth and sons,

23:55

نُسَارِعُ لَهُمْ فِي الْخَيْرَاتِ ۚ بَلْ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ

Transliteration

NusariAAu lahum fee alkhayratibal la yashAAuroon

Yusuf Ali

We would hasten them on in every good? Nay, they do not understand.

23:56

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ هُمْ مِنْ خَشْيَةِ رَبِّهِمْ مُشْفِقُونَ

Transliteration

Inna allatheena hum min khashyatirabbihim mushfiqoon

Yusuf Ali

Verily those who live in awe for fear of their Lord;

23:57

وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ بِآيَاتِ رَبِّهِمْ يُؤْمِنُونَ

Transliteration

Wallatheena hum bi-ayatirabbihim yu/minoon

Yusuf Ali

Those who believe in the Signs of their Lord;

23:58

وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ بِرَبِّهِمْ لَا يُشْرِكُونَ

Transliteration

Wallatheena hum birabbihim layushrikoon

Yusuf Ali

Those who join not (in worship) partners with their Lord;

23:59

وَالَّذِينَ يُؤْتُونَ مَا آتَوْا وَقُلُوبُهُمْ وَجِلَةٌ أَنَّهُمْ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ رَاجِعُونَ

Transliteration

Wallatheena yu/toona maataw waquloobuhum wajilatun annahum ila rabbihim rajiAAoon

Yusuf Ali

And those who dispense their charity with their hearts full of fear, because they will return to their Lord;-

23:60

أُولَٰئِكَ يُسَارِعُونَ فِي الْخَيْرَاتِ وَهُمْ لَهَا سَابِقُونَ

Transliteration

Ola-ika yusariAAoona feealkhayrati wahum laha sabiqoon

Yusuf Ali

It is these who hasten in every good work, and these who are foremost in them.

23:61

وَلَا نُكَلِّفُ نَفْسًا إِلَّا وُسْعَهَا ۖ وَلَدَيْنَا كِتَابٌ يَنْطِقُ بِالْحَقِّ ۚ وَهُمْ لَا يُظْلَمُونَ

Transliteration

Wala nukallifu nafsan illawusAAaha waladayna kitabun yantiqu bilhaqqiwahum la yuthlamoon

Yusuf Ali

On no soul do We place a burden greater than it can bear: before Us is a record which clearly shows the truth: they will never be wronged.

23:62

بَلْ قُلُوبُهُمْ فِي غَمْرَةٍ مِنْ هَٰذَا وَلَهُمْ أَعْمَالٌ مِنْ دُونِ ذَٰلِكَ هُمْ لَهَا عَامِلُونَ

Transliteration

Bal quloobuhum fee ghamratin min hathawalahum aAAmalun min dooni thalika hum lahaAAamiloon

Yusuf Ali

But their hearts are in confused ignorance of this; and there are, besides that, deeds of theirs, which they will (continue) to do,-

23:63

حَتَّىٰ إِذَا أَخَذْنَا مُتْرَفِيهِمْ بِالْعَذَابِ إِذَا هُمْ يَجْأَرُونَ

Transliteration

Hatta itha akhathnamutrafeehim bilAAathabi itha hum yaj-aroon

Yusuf Ali

Until, when We seize in Punishment those of them who received the good things of this world, behold, they will groan in supplication!

23:64

لَا تَجْأَرُوا الْيَوْمَ ۖ إِنَّكُمْ مِنَّا لَا تُنْصَرُونَ

Transliteration

La taj-aroo alyawma innakum minnala tunsaroon

Yusuf Ali

(It will be said): "Groan not in supplication this day: for ye shall certainly not be helped by Us.

23:65

قَدْ كَانَتْ آيَاتِي تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْكُمْ فَكُنْتُمْ عَلَىٰ أَعْقَابِكُمْ تَنْكِصُونَ

Transliteration

Qad kanat ayatee tutlaAAalaykum fakuntum AAala aAAqabikum tankisoon

Yusuf Ali

"My Signs used to be rehearsed to you, but ye used to turn back on your heels-

23:66

مُسْتَكْبِرِينَ بِهِ سَامِرًا تَهْجُرُونَ

Transliteration

Mustakbireena bihi samiran tahjuroon

Yusuf Ali

"In arrogance: talking nonsense about the (Qur'an), like one telling fables by night."

23:67

أَفَلَمْ يَدَّبَّرُوا الْقَوْلَ أَمْ جَاءَهُمْ مَا لَمْ يَأْتِ آبَاءَهُمُ الْأَوَّلِينَ

Transliteration

Afalam yaddabbaroo alqawla am jaahumma lam ya/ti abaahumu al-awwaleen

Yusuf Ali

Do they not ponder over the Word (of Allah), or has anything (new) come to them that did not come to their fathers of old?

23:68

أَمْ لَمْ يَعْرِفُوا رَسُولَهُمْ فَهُمْ لَهُ مُنْكِرُونَ

Transliteration

Am lam yaAArifoo rasoolahum fahum lahumunkiroon

Yusuf Ali

Or do they not recognise their Messenger, that they deny him?

23:69

أَمْ يَقُولُونَ بِهِ جِنَّةٌ ۚ بَلْ جَاءَهُمْ بِالْحَقِّ وَأَكْثَرُهُمْ لِلْحَقِّ كَارِهُونَ

Transliteration

Am yaqooloona bihi jinnatun bal jaahumbilhaqqi waaktharuhum lilhaqqi karihoon

Yusuf Ali

Or do they say, "He is possessed"? Nay, he has brought them the Truth, but most of them hate the Truth.

23:70

وَلَوِ اتَّبَعَ الْحَقُّ أَهْوَاءَهُمْ لَفَسَدَتِ السَّمَاوَاتُ وَالْأَرْضُ وَمَنْ فِيهِنَّ ۚ بَلْ أَتَيْنَاهُمْ بِذِكْرِهِمْ فَهُمْ عَنْ ذِكْرِهِمْ مُعْرِضُونَ

Transliteration

Walawi ittabaAAa alhaqqu ahwaahumlafasadati assamawatu wal-arduwaman feehinna bal ataynahum bithikrihim fahum AAanthikrihim muAAridoon

Yusuf Ali

If the Truth had been in accord with their desires, truly the heavens and the earth, and all beings therein would have been in confusion and corruption! Nay, We have sent them their admonition, but they turn away from their admonition.

23:71

أَمْ تَسْأَلُهُمْ خَرْجًا فَخَرَاجُ رَبِّكَ خَيْرٌ ۖ وَهُوَ خَيْرُ الرَّازِقِينَ

Transliteration

Am tas-aluhum kharjan fakharajurabbika khayrun wahuwa khayru arraziqeen

Yusuf Ali

Or is it that thou askest them for some recompense? But the recompense of thy Lord is best: He is the Best of those who give sustenance.

23:72

وَإِنَّكَ لَتَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَىٰ صِرَاطٍ مُسْتَقِيمٍ

Transliteration

Wa-innaka latadAAoohum ila siratinmustaqeem

Yusuf Ali

But verily thou callest them to the Straight Way;

23:73

وَإِنَّ الَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِالْآخِرَةِ عَنِ الصِّرَاطِ لَنَاكِبُونَ

Transliteration

Wa-inna allatheena layu/minoona bil-akhirati AAani assiratilanakiboon

Yusuf Ali

And verily those who believe not in the Hereafter are deviating from that Way.

23:74

۞ وَلَوْ رَحِمْنَاهُمْ وَكَشَفْنَا مَا بِهِمْ مِنْ ضُرٍّ لَلَجُّوا فِي طُغْيَانِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ

Transliteration

Walaw rahimnahum wakashafnama bihim min durrin lalajjoo fee tughyanihimyaAAmahoon

Yusuf Ali

If We had mercy on them and removed the distress which is on them, they would obstinately persist in their transgression, wandering in distraction to and fro.

23:75

وَلَقَدْ أَخَذْنَاهُمْ بِالْعَذَابِ فَمَا اسْتَكَانُوا لِرَبِّهِمْ وَمَا يَتَضَرَّعُونَ

Transliteration

Walaqad akhathnahum bilAAathabifama istakanoo lirabbihim wama yatadarraAAoon

Yusuf Ali

We inflicted Punishment on them, but they humbled not themselves to their Lord, nor do they submissively entreat (Him)!-

23:76

حَتَّىٰ إِذَا فَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ بَابًا ذَا عَذَابٍ شَدِيدٍ إِذَا هُمْ فِيهِ مُبْلِسُونَ

Transliteration

Hatta itha fatahnaAAalayhim baban tha AAathabin shadeedin ithahum feehi mublisoon

Yusuf Ali

Until We open on them a gate leading to a severe Punishment: then Lo! they will be plunged in despair therein!

23:77

وَهُوَ الَّذِي أَنْشَأَ لَكُمُ السَّمْعَ وَالْأَبْصَارَ وَالْأَفْئِدَةَ ۚ قَلِيلًا مَا تَشْكُرُونَ

Transliteration

Wahuwa allathee anshaa lakumu assamAAawal-absara wal-af-idata qaleelan matashkuroon

Yusuf Ali

It is He Who has created for you (the faculties of) hearing, sight, feeling and understanding: little thanks it is ye give!

23:78

وَهُوَ الَّذِي ذَرَأَكُمْ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَإِلَيْهِ تُحْشَرُونَ

Transliteration

Wahuwa allathee tharaakum feeal-ardi wa-ilayhi tuhsharoon

Yusuf Ali

And He has multiplied you through the earth, and to Him shall ye be gathered back.

23:79

وَهُوَ الَّذِي يُحْيِي وَيُمِيتُ وَلَهُ اخْتِلَافُ اللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ ۚ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ

Transliteration

Wahuwa allathee yuhyeewayumeetu walahu ikhtilafu allayli wannahariafala taAAqiloon

Yusuf Ali

It is He Who gives life and death, and to Him (is due) the alternation of Night and Day: will ye not then understand?

23:80

بَلْ قَالُوا مِثْلَ مَا قَالَ الْأَوَّلُونَ

Transliteration

Bal qaloo mithla ma qalaal-awwaloon

Yusuf Ali

On the contrary they say things similar to what the ancients said.

23:81

قَالُوا أَإِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَامًا أَإِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ

Transliteration

Qaloo a-itha mitnawakunna turaban waAAithamana-inna lamabAAoothoon

Yusuf Ali

They say: "What! when we die and become dust and bones, could we really be raised up again?

23:82

لَقَدْ وُعِدْنَا نَحْنُ وَآبَاؤُنَا هَٰذَا مِنْ قَبْلُ إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا أَسَاطِيرُ الْأَوَّلِينَ

Transliteration

Laqad wuAAidna nahnu waabaonahatha min qablu in hatha illa asateerual-awwaleen

Yusuf Ali

"Such things have been promised to us and to our fathers before! they are nothing but tales of the ancients!"

23:83

قُلْ لِمَنِ الْأَرْضُ وَمَنْ فِيهَا إِنْ كُنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ

Transliteration

Qul limani al-ardu waman feehain kuntum taAAlamoon

Yusuf Ali

Say: "To whom belong the earth and all beings therein? (say) if ye know!"

23:84

سَيَقُولُونَ لِلَّهِ ۚ قُلْ أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ

Transliteration

Sayaqooloona lillahi qul afalatathakkaroon

Yusuf Ali

They will say, "To Allah!" say: "Yet will ye not receive admonition?"

23:85

قُلْ مَنْ رَبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ السَّبْعِ وَرَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ

Transliteration

Qul man rabbu assamawatiassabAAi warabbu alAAarshi alAAatheem

Yusuf Ali

Say: "Who is the Lord of the seven heavens, and the Lord of the Throne (of Glory) Supreme?"

23:86

سَيَقُولُونَ لِلَّهِ ۚ قُلْ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ

Transliteration

Sayaqooloona lillahi qul afalatattaqoon

Yusuf Ali

They will say, "(They belong) to Allah." Say: "Will ye not then be filled with awe?"

23:87

قُلْ مَنْ بِيَدِهِ مَلَكُوتُ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَهُوَ يُجِيرُ وَلَا يُجَارُ عَلَيْهِ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ

Transliteration

Qul man biyadihi malakootu kulli shay-inwahuwa yujeeru wala yujaru AAalayhi in kuntumtaAAlamoon

Yusuf Ali

Say: "Who is it in whose hands is the governance of all things,- who protects (all), but is not protected (of any)? (say) if ye know."

23:88

سَيَقُولُونَ لِلَّهِ ۚ قُلْ فَأَنَّىٰ تُسْحَرُونَ

Transliteration

Sayaqooloona lillahi qul faannatusharoon

Yusuf Ali

They will say, "(It belongs) to Allah." Say: "Then how are ye deluded?"

23:89

بَلْ أَتَيْنَاهُمْ بِالْحَقِّ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَكَاذِبُونَ

Transliteration

Bal ataynahum bilhaqqiwa-innahum lakathiboon

Yusuf Ali

We have sent them the Truth: but they indeed practise falsehood!

23:90

مَا اتَّخَذَ اللَّهُ مِنْ وَلَدٍ وَمَا كَانَ مَعَهُ مِنْ إِلَٰهٍ ۚ إِذًا لَذَهَبَ كُلُّ إِلَٰهٍ بِمَا خَلَقَ وَلَعَلَا بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ ۚ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ

Transliteration

Ma ittakhatha Allahumin waladin wama kana maAAahu min ilahin ithanlathahaba kullu ilahin bima khalaqa walaAAalabaAAduhum AAala baAAdin subhana AllahiAAamma yasifoon

Yusuf Ali

No son did Allah beget, nor is there any god along with Him: (if there were many gods), behold, each god would have taken away what he had created, and some would have lorded it over others! Glory to Allah! (He is free) from the (sort of) things they attribute to Him!

23:91

عَالِمِ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ فَتَعَالَىٰ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ

Transliteration

AAalimi alghaybi washshahadatifataAAala AAamma yushrikoon

Yusuf Ali

He knows what is hidden and what is open: too high is He for the partners they attribute to Him!

23:92

قُلْ رَبِّ إِمَّا تُرِيَنِّي مَا يُوعَدُونَ

Transliteration

Qul rabbi imma turiyannee mayooAAadoon

Yusuf Ali

Say: "O my Lord! if Thou wilt show me (in my lifetime) that which they are warned against,-

23:93

رَبِّ فَلَا تَجْعَلْنِي فِي الْقَوْمِ الظَّالِمِينَ

Transliteration

Rabbi fala tajAAalnee fee alqawmi aththalimeen

Yusuf Ali

"Then, O my Lord! put me not amongst the people who do wrong!"

23:94

وَإِنَّا عَلَىٰ أَنْ نُرِيَكَ مَا نَعِدُهُمْ لَقَادِرُونَ

Transliteration

Wa-inna AAala an nuriyaka manaAAiduhum laqadiroon

Yusuf Ali

And We are certainly able to show thee (in fulfilment) that against which they are warned.

23:95

ادْفَعْ بِالَّتِي هِيَ أَحْسَنُ السَّيِّئَةَ ۚ نَحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَصِفُونَ

Transliteration

IdfaAA billatee hiya ahsanu assayyi-atanahnu aAAlamu bima yasifoon

Yusuf Ali

Repel evil with that which is best: We are well acquainted with the things they say.

23:96

وَقُلْ رَبِّ أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ هَمَزَاتِ الشَّيَاطِينِ

Transliteration

Waqul rabbi aAAoothu bika min hamazatiashshayateen

Yusuf Ali

And say "O my Lord! I seek refuge with Thee from the suggestions of the Evil Ones.

23:97

وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ رَبِّ أَنْ يَحْضُرُونِ

Transliteration

WaaAAoothu bika rabbi an yahduroon

Yusuf Ali

"And I seek refuge with Thee O my Lord! lest they should come near me."

23:98

حَتَّىٰ إِذَا جَاءَ أَحَدَهُمُ الْمَوْتُ قَالَ رَبِّ ارْجِعُونِ

Transliteration

Hatta itha jaa ahadahumualmawtu qala rabbi irjiAAoon

Yusuf Ali

(In Falsehood will they be) Until, when death comes to one of them, he says: "O my Lord! send me back (to life),-

23:99

لَعَلِّي أَعْمَلُ صَالِحًا فِيمَا تَرَكْتُ ۚ كَلَّا ۚ إِنَّهَا كَلِمَةٌ هُوَ قَائِلُهَا ۖ وَمِنْ وَرَائِهِمْ بَرْزَخٌ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ

Transliteration

LaAAallee aAAmalu salihanfeema taraktu kalla innaha kalimatun huwa qa-iluhawamin wara-ihim barzakhun ila yawmi yubAAathoon

Yusuf Ali

"In order that I may work righteousness in the things I neglected." - "By no means! It is but a word he says."- Before them is a Partition till the Day they are raised up.

23:100

فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِي الصُّورِ فَلَا أَنْسَابَ بَيْنَهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَلَا يَتَسَاءَلُونَ

Transliteration

Fa-itha nufikha fee assoorifala ansaba baynahum yawma-ithin walayatasaaloon

Yusuf Ali

Then when the Trumpet is blown, there will be no more relationships between them that Day, nor will one ask after another!

23:101

فَمَنْ ثَقُلَتْ مَوَازِينُهُ فَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ

Transliteration

Faman thaqulat mawazeenuhu faola-ikahumu almuflihoon

Yusuf Ali

Then those whose balance (of good deeds) is heavy,- they will attain salvation:

23:102

وَمَنْ خَفَّتْ مَوَازِينُهُ فَأُولَٰئِكَ الَّذِينَ خَسِرُوا أَنْفُسَهُمْ فِي جَهَنَّمَ خَالِدُونَ

Transliteration

Waman khaffat mawazeenuhu faola-ikaallatheena khasiroo anfusahum fee jahannama khalidoon

Yusuf Ali

But those whose balance is light, will be those who have lost their souls, in Hell will they abide.

23:103

تَلْفَحُ وُجُوهَهُمُ النَّارُ وَهُمْ فِيهَا كَالِحُونَ

Transliteration

Talfahu wujoohahumu annaruwahum feeha kalihoon

Yusuf Ali

The Fire will burn their faces, and they will therein grin, with their lips displaced.

23:104

أَلَمْ تَكُنْ آيَاتِي تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْكُمْ فَكُنْتُمْ بِهَا تُكَذِّبُونَ

Transliteration

Alam takun ayatee tutlaAAalaykum fakuntum biha tukaththiboon

Yusuf Ali

"Were not My Signs rehearsed to you, and ye did but treat them as falsehood?"

23:105

قَالُوا رَبَّنَا غَلَبَتْ عَلَيْنَا شِقْوَتُنَا وَكُنَّا قَوْمًا ضَالِّينَ

Transliteration

Qaloo rabbana ghalabatAAalayna shiqwatuna wakunna qawman dalleen

Yusuf Ali

They will say: "our Lord! Our misfortune overwhelmed us, and we became a people astray!

23:106

رَبَّنَا أَخْرِجْنَا مِنْهَا فَإِنْ عُدْنَا فَإِنَّا ظَالِمُونَ

Transliteration

Rabbana akhrijna minhafa-in AAudna fa-inna thalimoon

Yusuf Ali

"Our Lord! bring us out of this: if ever we return (to Evil), then shall we be wrong-doers indeed!"

23:107

قَالَ اخْسَئُوا فِيهَا وَلَا تُكَلِّمُونِ

Transliteration

Qala ikhsaoo feeha walatukallimoon

Yusuf Ali

He will say: "Be ye driven into it (with ignominy)! And speak ye not to Me!

23:108

إِنَّهُ كَانَ فَرِيقٌ مِنْ عِبَادِي يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا آمَنَّا فَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَارْحَمْنَا وَأَنْتَ خَيْرُ الرَّاحِمِينَ

Transliteration

Innahu kana fareequn min AAibadeeyaqooloona rabbana amanna faghfirlana warhamna waanta khayru arrahimeen

Yusuf Ali

"A part of My servants there was, who used to pray 'our Lord! we believe; then do Thou forgive us, and have mercy upon us: For Thou art the Best of those who show mercy!"

23:109

فَاتَّخَذْتُمُوهُمْ سِخْرِيًّا حَتَّىٰ أَنْسَوْكُمْ ذِكْرِي وَكُنْتُمْ مِنْهُمْ تَضْحَكُونَ

Transliteration

Fattakhathtumoohumsikhriyyan hatta ansawkum thikree wakuntumminhum tadhakoon

Yusuf Ali

"But ye treated them with ridicule, so much so that (ridicule of) them made you forget My Message while ye were laughing at them!

23:110

إِنِّي جَزَيْتُهُمُ الْيَوْمَ بِمَا صَبَرُوا أَنَّهُمْ هُمُ الْفَائِزُونَ

Transliteration

Innee jazaytuhumu alyawma bima sabarooannahum humu alfa-izoon

Yusuf Ali

"I have rewarded them this Day for their patience and constancy: they are indeed the ones that have achieved Bliss..."

23:111

قَالَ كَمْ لَبِثْتُمْ فِي الْأَرْضِ عَدَدَ سِنِينَ

Transliteration

Qala kam labithtum fee al-ardiAAadada sineen

Yusuf Ali

He will say: "What number of years did ye stay on earth?"

23:112

قَالُوا لَبِثْنَا يَوْمًا أَوْ بَعْضَ يَوْمٍ فَاسْأَلِ الْعَادِّينَ

Transliteration

Qaloo labithna yawman aw baAAdayawmin fas-ali alAAaddeen

Yusuf Ali

They will say: "We stayed a day or part of a day: but ask those who keep account."

23:113

قَالَ إِنْ لَبِثْتُمْ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا ۖ لَوْ أَنَّكُمْ كُنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ

Transliteration

Qala in labithtum illaqaleelan law annakum kuntum taAAlamoon

Yusuf Ali

He will say: "Ye stayed not but a little,- if ye had only known!

23:114

أَفَحَسِبْتُمْ أَنَّمَا خَلَقْنَاكُمْ عَبَثًا وَأَنَّكُمْ إِلَيْنَا لَا تُرْجَعُونَ

Transliteration

Afahasibtum annama khalaqnakumAAabathan waannakum ilayna la turjaAAoon

Yusuf Ali

"Did ye then think that We had created you in jest, and that ye would not be brought back to Us (for account)?"

23:115

فَتَعَالَى اللَّهُ الْمَلِكُ الْحَقُّ ۖ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْكَرِيمِ

Transliteration

FataAAala Allahualmaliku alhaqqu la ilaha illa huwarabbu alAAarshi alkareem

Yusuf Ali

Therefore exalted be Allah, the King, the Reality: there is no god but He, the Lord of the Throne of Honour!

23:116

وَمَنْ يَدْعُ مَعَ اللَّهِ إِلَٰهًا آخَرَ لَا بُرْهَانَ لَهُ بِهِ فَإِنَّمَا حِسَابُهُ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِ ۚ إِنَّهُ لَا يُفْلِحُ الْكَافِرُونَ

Transliteration

Waman yadAAu maAAa Allahi ilahanakhara la burhana lahu bihi fa-innamahisabuhu AAinda rabbihi innahu la yuflihualkafiroon

Yusuf Ali

If anyone invokes, besides Allah, Any other god, he has no authority therefor; and his reckoning will be only with his Lord! and verily the Unbelievers will fail to win through!

23:117

وَقُلْ رَبِّ اغْفِرْ وَارْحَمْ وَأَنْتَ خَيْرُ الرَّاحِمِينَ

Transliteration

Waqul rabbi ighfir warhamwaanta khayru arrahimeen

Yusuf Ali

So say: "O my Lord! grant Thou forgiveness and mercy for Thou art the Best of those who show mercy!"

23:118

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Transliteration

Bismi Allahi arrahmani arraheem

Yusuf Ali

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

سُورَةٌ أَنْزَلْنَاهَا وَفَرَضْنَاهَا وَأَنْزَلْنَا فِيهَا آيَاتٍ بَيِّنَاتٍ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ

Transliteration

Sooratun anzalnaha wafaradnahawaanzalna feeha ayatin bayyinatinlaAAallakum tathakkaroon

Yusuf Ali

A sura which We have sent down and which We have ordained in it have We sent down Clear Signs, in order that ye may receive admonition.

24:1

الزَّانِيَةُ وَالزَّانِي فَاجْلِدُوا كُلَّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمَا مِائَةَ جَلْدَةٍ ۖ وَلَا تَأْخُذْكُمْ بِهِمَا رَأْفَةٌ فِي دِينِ اللَّهِ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ تُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ ۖ وَلْيَشْهَدْ عَذَابَهُمَا طَائِفَةٌ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ

Transliteration

Azzaniyatu wazzaneefajlidoo kulla wahidin minhuma mi-atajaldatin wala ta/khuthkum bihima ra/fatunfee deeni Allahi in kuntum tu/minoona billahiwalyawmi al-akhiri walyashhad AAathabahumata-ifatun mina almu/mineen

Yusuf Ali

The woman and the man guilty of adultery or fornication,- flog each of them with a hundred stripes: Let not compassion move you in their case, in a matter prescribed by Allah, if ye believe in Allah and the Last Day: and let a party of the Believers witness their punishment.

24:2

الزَّانِي لَا يَنْكِحُ إِلَّا زَانِيَةً أَوْ مُشْرِكَةً وَالزَّانِيَةُ لَا يَنْكِحُهَا إِلَّا زَانٍ أَوْ مُشْرِكٌ ۚ وَحُرِّمَ ذَٰلِكَ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ

Transliteration

Azzanee la yankihuilla zaniyatan aw mushrikatan wazzaniyatula yankihuha illa zanin awmushrikun wahurrima thalika AAalaalmu/mineen

Yusuf Ali

Let no man guilty of adultery or fornication marry and but a woman similarly guilty, or an Unbeliever: nor let any but such a man or an Unbeliever marry such a woman: to the Believers such a thing is forbidden.

24:3

وَالَّذِينَ يَرْمُونَ الْمُحْصَنَاتِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَأْتُوا بِأَرْبَعَةِ شُهَدَاءَ فَاجْلِدُوهُمْ ثَمَانِينَ جَلْدَةً وَلَا تَقْبَلُوا لَهُمْ شَهَادَةً أَبَدًا ۚ وَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْفَاسِقُونَ

Transliteration

Wallatheena yarmoona almuhsanatithumma lam ya/too bi-arbaAAati shuhadaa fajlidoohumthamaneena jaldatan wala taqbaloo lahum shahadatanabadan waola-ika humu alfasiqoon

Yusuf Ali

And those who launch a charge against chaste women, and produce not four witnesses (to support their allegations),- flog them with eighty stripes; and reject their evidence ever after: for such men are wicked transgressors;-

24:4

إِلَّا الَّذِينَ تَابُوا مِنْ بَعْدِ ذَٰلِكَ وَأَصْلَحُوا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ

Transliteration

Illa allatheena taboomin baAAdi thalika waaslahoo fa-inna Allahaghafoorun raheem

Yusuf Ali

Unless they repent thereafter and mend (their conduct); for Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

24:5

وَالَّذِينَ يَرْمُونَ أَزْوَاجَهُمْ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُمْ شُهَدَاءُ إِلَّا أَنْفُسُهُمْ فَشَهَادَةُ أَحَدِهِمْ أَرْبَعُ شَهَادَاتٍ بِاللَّهِ ۙ إِنَّهُ لَمِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ

Transliteration

Wallatheena yarmoona azwajahumwalam yakun lahum shuhadao illa anfusuhum fashahadatuahadihim arbaAAu shahadatin billahiinnahu lamina assadiqeen

Yusuf Ali

And for those who launch a charge against their spouses, and have (in support) no evidence but their own,- their solitary evidence (can be received) if they bear witness four times (with an oath) by Allah that they are solemnly telling the truth;

24:6

وَالْخَامِسَةُ أَنَّ لَعْنَتَ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ إِنْ كَانَ مِنَ الْكَاذِبِينَ

Transliteration

Walkhamisatu anna laAAnata AllahiAAalayhi in kana mina alkathibeen

Yusuf Ali

And the fifth (oath) (should be) that they solemnly invoke the curse of Allah on themselves if they tell a lie.

24:7

وَيَدْرَأُ عَنْهَا الْعَذَابَ أَنْ تَشْهَدَ أَرْبَعَ شَهَادَاتٍ بِاللَّهِ ۙ إِنَّهُ لَمِنَ الْكَاذِبِينَ

Transliteration

Wayadrao AAanha alAAathaba antashhada arbaAAa shahadatin billahiinnahu lamina alkathibeen

Yusuf Ali

But it would avert the punishment from the wife, if she bears witness four times (with an oath) By Allah, that (her husband) is telling a lie;

24:8

وَالْخَامِسَةَ أَنَّ غَضَبَ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهَا إِنْ كَانَ مِنَ الصَّادِقِينَ

Transliteration

Walkhamisata anna ghadabaAllahi AAalayha in kana mina assadiqeen

Yusuf Ali

And the fifth (oath) should be that she solemnly invokes the wrath of Allah on herself if (her accuser) is telling the truth.

24:9

وَلَوْلَا فَضْلُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَتُهُ وَأَنَّ اللَّهَ تَوَّابٌ حَكِيمٌ

Transliteration

Walawla fadlu AllahiAAalaykum warahmatuhu waanna Allaha tawwabunhakeem

Yusuf Ali

If it were not for Allah's grace and mercy on you, and that Allah is Oft-Returning, full of Wisdom,- (Ye would be ruined indeed).

24:10

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ جَاءُوا بِالْإِفْكِ عُصْبَةٌ مِنْكُمْ ۚ لَا تَحْسَبُوهُ شَرًّا لَكُمْ ۖ بَلْ هُوَ خَيْرٌ لَكُمْ ۚ لِكُلِّ امْرِئٍ مِنْهُمْ مَا اكْتَسَبَ مِنَ الْإِثْمِ ۚ وَالَّذِي تَوَلَّىٰ كِبْرَهُ مِنْهُمْ لَهُ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ

Transliteration

Inna allatheena jaoo bil-ifkiAAusbatun minkum la tahsaboohu sharran lakumbal huwa khayrun lakum likulli imri-in minhum ma iktasabamina al-ithmi wallathee tawalla kibrahuminhum lahu AAathabun AAatheem

Yusuf Ali

Those who brought forward the lie are a body among yourselves: think it not to be an evil to you; On the contrary it is good for you: to every man among them (will come the punishment) of the sin that he earned, and to him who took on himself the lead among them, will be a penalty grievous.

24:11

لَوْلَا إِذْ سَمِعْتُمُوهُ ظَنَّ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتُ بِأَنْفُسِهِمْ خَيْرًا وَقَالُوا هَٰذَا إِفْكٌ مُبِينٌ

Transliteration

Lawla ith samiAAtumoohu thannaalmu/minoona walmu/minatu bi-anfusihim khayran waqaloohatha ifkun mubeen

Yusuf Ali

Why did not the believers - men and women - when ye heard of the affair,- put the best construction on it in their own minds and say, "This (charge) is an obvious lie"?

24:12

لَوْلَا جَاءُوا عَلَيْهِ بِأَرْبَعَةِ شُهَدَاءَ ۚ فَإِذْ لَمْ يَأْتُوا بِالشُّهَدَاءِ فَأُولَٰئِكَ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ هُمُ الْكَاذِبُونَ

Transliteration

Lawla jaoo AAalayhibi-arbaAAati shuhadaa fa-ith lam ya/too bishshuhada-ifaola-ika AAinda Allahi humu alkathiboon

Yusuf Ali

Why did they not bring four witnesses to prove it? When they have not brought the witnesses, such men, in the sight of Allah, (stand forth) themselves as liars!

24:13

وَلَوْلَا فَضْلُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَتُهُ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ لَمَسَّكُمْ فِي مَا أَفَضْتُمْ فِيهِ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ

Transliteration

Walawla fadlu AllahiAAalaykum warahmatuhu fee addunya wal-akhiratilamassakum fee ma afadtum feehi AAathabunAAatheem

Yusuf Ali

Were it not for the grace and mercy of Allah on you, in this world and the Hereafter, a grievous penalty would have seized you in that ye rushed glibly into this affair.

24:14

إِذْ تَلَقَّوْنَهُ بِأَلْسِنَتِكُمْ وَتَقُولُونَ بِأَفْوَاهِكُمْ مَا لَيْسَ لَكُمْ بِهِ عِلْمٌ وَتَحْسَبُونَهُ هَيِّنًا وَهُوَ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ عَظِيمٌ

Transliteration

Ith talaqqawnahu bi-alsinatikumwataqooloona bi-afwahikum ma laysa lakum bihiAAilmun watahsaboonahu hayyinan wahuwa AAinda AllahiAAatheem

Yusuf Ali

Behold, ye received it on your tongues, and said out of your mouths things of which ye had no knowledge; and ye thought it to be a light matter, while it was most serious in the sight of Allah.

24:15

وَلَوْلَا إِذْ سَمِعْتُمُوهُ قُلْتُمْ مَا يَكُونُ لَنَا أَنْ نَتَكَلَّمَ بِهَٰذَا سُبْحَانَكَ هَٰذَا بُهْتَانٌ عَظِيمٌ

Transliteration

Walawla ith samiAAtumoohuqultum ma yakoonu lana an natakallama bihathasubhanaka hatha buhtanun AAatheem

Yusuf Ali

And why did ye not, when ye heard it, say? - "It is not right of us to speak of this: Glory to Allah! this is a most serious slander!"

24:16

يَعِظُكُمُ اللَّهُ أَنْ تَعُودُوا لِمِثْلِهِ أَبَدًا إِنْ كُنْتُمْ مُؤْمِنِينَ

Transliteration

YaAAithukumu Allahu antaAAoodoo limithlihi abadan in kuntum mu/mineen

Yusuf Ali

Allah doth admonish you, that ye may never repeat such (conduct), if ye are (true) Believers.

24:17

وَيُبَيِّنُ اللَّهُ لَكُمُ الْآيَاتِ ۚ وَاللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ

Transliteration

Wayubayyinu Allahu lakumu al-ayatiwallahu AAaleemun hakeem

Yusuf Ali

And Allah makes the Signs plain to you: for Allah is full of knowledge and wisdom.

24:18

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يُحِبُّونَ أَنْ تَشِيعَ الْفَاحِشَةُ فِي الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ ۚ وَاللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ وَأَنْتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ

Transliteration

Inna allatheena yuhibboona antasheeAAa alfahishatu fee allatheena amanoolahum AAathabun aleemun fee addunya wal-akhiratiwallahu yaAAlamu waantum la taAAlamoon

Yusuf Ali

Those who love (to see) scandal published broadcast among the Believers, will have a grievous Penalty in this life and in the Hereafter: Allah knows, and ye know not.

24:19

وَلَوْلَا فَضْلُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَتُهُ وَأَنَّ اللَّهَ رَءُوفٌ رَحِيمٌ

Transliteration

Walawla fadlu AllahiAAalaykum warahmatuhu waanna Allaha raoofun raheem

Yusuf Ali

Were it not for the grace and mercy of Allah on you, and that Allah is full of kindness and mercy, (ye would be ruined indeed).

24:20

۞ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تَتَّبِعُوا خُطُوَاتِ الشَّيْطَانِ ۚ وَمَنْ يَتَّبِعْ خُطُوَاتِ الشَّيْطَانِ فَإِنَّهُ يَأْمُرُ بِالْفَحْشَاءِ وَالْمُنْكَرِ ۚ وَلَوْلَا فَضْلُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَتُهُ مَا زَكَىٰ مِنْكُمْ مِنْ أَحَدٍ أَبَدًا وَلَٰكِنَّ اللَّهَ يُزَكِّي مَنْ يَشَاءُ ۗ وَاللَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ

Transliteration

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoola tattabiAAoo khutuwati ashshaytaniwaman yattabiAA khutuwati ashshaytanifa-innahu ya/muru bilfahsha-i walmunkariwalawla fadlu Allahi AAalaykum warahmatuhuma zaka minkum min ahadin abadan walakinnaAllaha yuzakkee man yashao wallahusameeAAun AAaleem

Yusuf Ali

O ye who believe! follow not Satan's footsteps: if any will follow the footsteps of Satan, he will (but) command what is shameful and wrong: and were it not for the grace and mercy of Allah on you, not one of you would ever have been pure: but Allah doth purify whom He pleases: and Allah is One Who hears and knows (all things).

24:21

وَلَا يَأْتَلِ أُولُو الْفَضْلِ مِنْكُمْ وَالسَّعَةِ أَنْ يُؤْتُوا أُولِي الْقُرْبَىٰ وَالْمَسَاكِينَ وَالْمُهَاجِرِينَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ۖ وَلْيَعْفُوا وَلْيَصْفَحُوا ۗ أَلَا تُحِبُّونَ أَنْ يَغْفِرَ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ ۗ وَاللَّهُ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ

Transliteration

Wala ya/tali oloo alfadliminkum wassaAAati an yu/too olee alqurba walmasakeenawalmuhajireena fee sabeeli AllahiwalyaAAfoo walyasfahoo ala tuhibboonaan yaghfira Allahu lakum wallahu ghafoorunraheem

Yusuf Ali

Let not those among you who are endued with grace and amplitude of means resolve by oath against helping their kinsmen, those in want, and those who have left their homes in Allah's cause: let them forgive and overlook, do you not wish that Allah should forgive you? For Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

24:22

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَرْمُونَ الْمُحْصَنَاتِ الْغَافِلَاتِ الْمُؤْمِنَاتِ لُعِنُوا فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ

Transliteration

Inna allatheena yarmoona almuhsanatialghafilati almu/minati luAAinoo fee addunyawal-akhirati walahum AAathabun AAatheem

Yusuf Ali

Those who slander chaste women, indiscreet but believing, are cursed in this life and in the Hereafter: for them is a grievous Penalty,-

24:23

يَوْمَ تَشْهَدُ عَلَيْهِمْ أَلْسِنَتُهُمْ وَأَيْدِيهِمْ وَأَرْجُلُهُمْ بِمَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ

Transliteration

Yawma tashhadu AAalayhim alsinatuhumwaaydeehim waarjuluhum bima kanoo yaAAmaloon

Yusuf Ali

On the Day when their tongues, their hands, and their feet will bear witness against them as to their actions.

24:24

يَوْمَئِذٍ يُوَفِّيهِمُ اللَّهُ دِينَهُمُ الْحَقَّ وَيَعْلَمُونَ أَنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ الْحَقُّ الْمُبِينُ

Transliteration

Yawma-ithin yuwaffeehimu Allahudeenahumu alhaqqa wayaAAlamoona anna Allaha huwa alhaqqualmubeen

Yusuf Ali

On that Day Allah will pay them back (all) their just dues, and they will realise that Allah is the (very) Truth, that makes all things manifest.

24:25

الْخَبِيثَاتُ لِلْخَبِيثِينَ وَالْخَبِيثُونَ لِلْخَبِيثَاتِ ۖ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ لِلطَّيِّبِينَ وَالطَّيِّبُونَ لِلطَّيِّبَاتِ ۚ أُولَٰئِكَ مُبَرَّءُونَ مِمَّا يَقُولُونَ ۖ لَهُمْ مَغْفِرَةٌ وَرِزْقٌ كَرِيمٌ

Transliteration

Alkhabeethatu lilkhabeetheena walkhabeethoonalilkhabeethati wattayyibatu littayyibeenawattayyiboona littayyibatiola-ika mubarraoona mimma yaqooloona lahummaghfiratun warizqun kareem

Yusuf Ali

Women impure are for men impure, and men impure for women impure and women of purity are for men of purity, and men of purity are for women of purity: these are not affected by what people say: for them there is forgiveness, and a provision honourable.

24:26

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تَدْخُلُوا بُيُوتًا غَيْرَ بُيُوتِكُمْ حَتَّىٰ تَسْتَأْنِسُوا وَتُسَلِّمُوا عَلَىٰ أَهْلِهَا ۚ ذَٰلِكُمْ خَيْرٌ لَكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ

Transliteration

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoola tadkhuloo buyootan ghayra buyootikum hattatasta/nisoo watusallimoo AAala ahliha thalikumkhayrun lakum laAAallakum tathakkaroon

Yusuf Ali

O ye who believe! enter not houses other than your own, until ye have asked permission and saluted those in them: that is best for you, in order that ye may heed (what is seemly).

24:27

فَإِنْ لَمْ تَجِدُوا فِيهَا أَحَدًا فَلَا تَدْخُلُوهَا حَتَّىٰ يُؤْذَنَ لَكُمْ ۖ وَإِنْ قِيلَ لَكُمُ ارْجِعُوا فَارْجِعُوا ۖ هُوَ أَزْكَىٰ لَكُمْ ۚ وَاللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ عَلِيمٌ

Transliteration

Fa-in lam tajidoo feeha ahadanfala tadkhulooha hatta yu/thanalakum wa-in qeela lakumu irjiAAoo farjiAAoo huwa azkalakum wallahu bima taAAmaloona AAaleem

Yusuf Ali

If ye find no one in the house, enter not until permission is given to you: if ye are asked to go back, go back: that makes for greater purity for yourselves: and Allah knows well all that ye do.

24:28

لَيْسَ عَلَيْكُمْ جُنَاحٌ أَنْ تَدْخُلُوا بُيُوتًا غَيْرَ مَسْكُونَةٍ فِيهَا مَتَاعٌ لَكُمْ ۚ وَاللَّهُ يَعْلَمُ مَا تُبْدُونَ وَمَا تَكْتُمُونَ

Transliteration

Laysa AAalaykum junahun an tadkhuloobuyootan ghayra maskoonatin feeha mataAAun lakum wallahuyaAAlamu ma tubdoona wama taktumoon

Yusuf Ali

It is no fault on your part to enter houses not used for living in, which serve some (other) use for you: And Allah has knowledge of what ye reveal and what ye conceal.

24:29

قُلْ لِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ يَغُضُّوا مِنْ أَبْصَارِهِمْ وَيَحْفَظُوا فُرُوجَهُمْ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ أَزْكَىٰ لَهُمْ ۗ إِنَّ اللَّهَ خَبِيرٌ بِمَا يَصْنَعُونَ

Transliteration

Qul lilmu/mineena yaghuddoo min absarihumwayahfathoo furoojahum thalika azkalahum inna Allaha khabeerun bima yasnaAAoon

Yusuf Ali

Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty: that will make for greater purity for them: And Allah is well acquainted with all that they do.

24:30

وَقُلْ لِلْمُؤْمِنَاتِ يَغْضُضْنَ مِنْ أَبْصَارِهِنَّ وَيَحْفَظْنَ فُرُوجَهُنَّ وَلَا يُبْدِينَ زِينَتَهُنَّ إِلَّا مَا ظَهَرَ مِنْهَا ۖ وَلْيَضْرِبْنَ بِخُمُرِهِنَّ عَلَىٰ جُيُوبِهِنَّ ۖ وَلَا يُبْدِينَ زِينَتَهُنَّ إِلَّا لِبُعُولَتِهِنَّ أَوْ آبَائِهِنَّ أَوْ آبَاءِ بُعُولَتِهِنَّ أَوْ أَبْنَائِهِنَّ أَوْ أَبْنَاءِ بُعُولَتِهِنَّ أَوْ إِخْوَانِهِنَّ أَوْ بَنِي إِخْوَانِهِنَّ أَوْ بَنِي أَخَوَاتِهِنَّ أَوْ نِسَائِهِنَّ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُهُنَّ أَوِ التَّابِعِينَ غَيْرِ أُولِي الْإِرْبَةِ مِنَ الرِّجَالِ أَوِ الطِّفْلِ الَّذِينَ لَمْ يَظْهَرُوا عَلَىٰ عَوْرَاتِ النِّسَاءِ ۖ وَلَا يَضْرِبْنَ بِأَرْجُلِهِنَّ لِيُعْلَمَ مَا يُخْفِينَ مِنْ زِينَتِهِنَّ ۚ وَتُوبُوا إِلَى اللَّهِ جَمِيعًا أَيُّهَ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ

Transliteration

Waqul lilmu/minati yaghdudnamin absarihinna wayahfathnafuroojahunna wala yubdeena zeenatahunna illa mathahara minha walyadribnabikhumurihinna AAala juyoobihinna wala yubdeenazeenatahunna illa libuAAoolatihinna aw aba-ihinnaaw aba-i buAAoolatihinna aw abna-ihinna awabna-i buAAoolatihinna aw ikhwanihinna aw baneeikhwanihinna aw banee akhawatihinna aw nisa-ihinnaaw ma malakat aymanuhunna awi attabiAAeenaghayri olee al-irbati mina arrijali awi attifliallatheena lam yathharoo AAala AAawratiannisa-i wala yadribnabi-arjulihinna liyuAAlama ma yukhfeena min zeenatihinnawatooboo ila Allahi jameeAAan ayyuhaalmu/minoona laAAallakum tuflihoon

Yusuf Ali

And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husband's fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers or their brothers' sons, or their sisters' sons, or their women, or the slaves whom their right hands possess, or male servants free of physical needs, or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex; and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments. And O ye Believers! turn ye all together towards Allah, that ye may attain Bliss.

24:31

وَأَنْكِحُوا الْأَيَامَىٰ مِنْكُمْ وَالصَّالِحِينَ مِنْ عِبَادِكُمْ وَإِمَائِكُمْ ۚ إِنْ يَكُونُوا فُقَرَاءَ يُغْنِهِمُ اللَّهُ مِنْ فَضْلِهِ ۗ وَاللَّهُ وَاسِعٌ عَلِيمٌ

Transliteration

Waankihoo al-ayamaminkum wassaliheena min AAibadikumwa-ima-ikum in yakoonoo fuqaraa yughnihimu Allahumin fadlihi wallahu wasiAAun AAaleem

Yusuf Ali

Marry those among you who are single, or the virtuous ones among yourselves, male or female: if they are in poverty, Allah will give them means out of His grace: for Allah encompasseth all, and he knoweth all things.

24:32

وَلْيَسْتَعْفِفِ الَّذِينَ لَا يَجِدُونَ نِكَاحًا حَتَّىٰ يُغْنِيَهُمُ اللَّهُ مِنْ فَضْلِهِ ۗ وَالَّذِينَ يَبْتَغُونَ الْكِتَابَ مِمَّا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُكُمْ فَكَاتِبُوهُمْ إِنْ عَلِمْتُمْ فِيهِمْ خَيْرًا ۖ وَآتُوهُمْ مِنْ مَالِ اللَّهِ الَّذِي آتَاكُمْ ۚ وَلَا تُكْرِهُوا فَتَيَاتِكُمْ عَلَى الْبِغَاءِ إِنْ أَرَدْنَ تَحَصُّنًا لِتَبْتَغُوا عَرَضَ الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا ۚ وَمَنْ يُكْرِهْهُنَّ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ مِنْ بَعْدِ إِكْرَاهِهِنَّ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ

Transliteration

WalyastaAAfifi allatheena layajidoona nikahan hatta yughniyahumu Allahumin fadlihi wallatheena yabtaghoona alkitabamimma malakat aymanukum fakatiboohum inAAalimtum feehim khayran waatoohum min mali Allahiallathee atakum wala tukrihoo fatayatikumAAala albigha-i in aradna tahassunanlitabtaghoo AAarada alhayati addunyawaman yukrihhunna fa-inna Allaha min baAAdi ikrahihinnaghafoorun raheem

Yusuf Ali

Let those who find not the wherewithal for marriage keep themselves chaste, until Allah gives them means out of His grace. And if any of your slaves ask for a deed in writing (to enable them to earn their freedom for a certain sum), give them such a deed if ye know any good in them: yea, give them something yourselves out of the means which Allah has given to you. But force not your maids to prostitution when they desire chastity, in order that ye may make a gain in the goods of this life. But if anyone compels them, yet, after such compulsion, is Allah, Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful (to them),

24:33

وَلَقَدْ أَنْزَلْنَا إِلَيْكُمْ آيَاتٍ مُبَيِّنَاتٍ وَمَثَلًا مِنَ الَّذِينَ خَلَوْا مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ وَمَوْعِظَةً لِلْمُتَّقِينَ

Transliteration

Walaqad anzalna ilaykum ayatinmubayyinatin wamathalan mina allatheena khalaw minqablikum wamawAAithatan lilmuttaqeen

Yusuf Ali

We have already sent down to you verses making things clear, an illustration from (the story of) people who passed away before you, and an admonition for those who fear (Allah).

24:34

۞ اللَّهُ نُورُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ ۚ مَثَلُ نُورِهِ كَمِشْكَاةٍ فِيهَا مِصْبَاحٌ ۖ الْمِصْبَاحُ فِي زُجَاجَةٍ ۖ الزُّجَاجَةُ كَأَنَّهَا كَوْكَبٌ دُرِّيٌّ يُوقَدُ مِنْ شَجَرَةٍ مُبَارَكَةٍ زَيْتُونَةٍ لَا شَرْقِيَّةٍ وَلَا غَرْبِيَّةٍ يَكَادُ زَيْتُهَا يُضِيءُ وَلَوْ لَمْ تَمْسَسْهُ نَارٌ ۚ نُورٌ عَلَىٰ نُورٍ ۗ يَهْدِي اللَّهُ لِنُورِهِ مَنْ يَشَاءُ ۚ وَيَضْرِبُ اللَّهُ الْأَمْثَالَ لِلنَّاسِ ۗ وَاللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عَلِيمٌ

Transliteration

Allahu nooru assamawatiwal-ardi mathalu noorihi kamishkatin feehamisbahun almisbahu fee zujajatinazzujajatu kaannaha kawkabun durriyyunyooqadu min shajaratin mubarakatin zaytoonatin lasharqiyyatin wala gharbiyyatin yakadu zaytuhayudee-o walaw lam tamsas-hu narun noorun AAalanoorin yahdee Allahu linoorihi man yashao wayadribuAllahu al-amthala linnasi wallahubikulli shay-in AAaleem

Yusuf Ali

Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The Parable of His Light is as if there were a Niche and within it a Lamp: the Lamp enclosed in Glass: the glass as it were a brilliant star: Lit from a blessed Tree, an Olive, neither of the east nor of the west, whose oil is well-nigh luminous, though fire scarce touched it: Light upon Light! Allah doth guide whom He will to His Light: Allah doth set forth Parables for men: and Allah doth know all things.

24:35

فِي بُيُوتٍ أَذِنَ اللَّهُ أَنْ تُرْفَعَ وَيُذْكَرَ فِيهَا اسْمُهُ يُسَبِّحُ لَهُ فِيهَا بِالْغُدُوِّ وَالْآصَالِ

Transliteration

Fee buyootin athina Allahu anturfaAAa wayuthkara feeha ismuhu yusabbihulahu feeha bilghuduwwi wal-asal

Yusuf Ali

(Lit is such a Light) in houses, which Allah hath permitted to be raised to honour; for the celebration, in them, of His name: In them is He glorified in the mornings and in the evenings, (again and again),-

24:36

رِجَالٌ لَا تُلْهِيهِمْ تِجَارَةٌ وَلَا بَيْعٌ عَنْ ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ وَإِقَامِ الصَّلَاةِ وَإِيتَاءِ الزَّكَاةِ ۙ يَخَافُونَ يَوْمًا تَتَقَلَّبُ فِيهِ الْقُلُوبُ وَالْأَبْصَارُ

Transliteration

Rijalun la tulheehim tijaratunwala bayAAun AAan thikri Allahi wa-iqamiassalati wa-eeta-i azzakatiyakhafoona yawman tataqallabu feehi alquloobu wal-absar

Yusuf Ali

By men whom neither traffic nor merchandise can divert from the Remembrance of Allah, nor from regular Prayer, nor from the practice of regular Charity: Their (only) fear is for the Day when hearts and eyes will be transformed (in a world wholly new),-

24:37

لِيَجْزِيَهُمُ اللَّهُ أَحْسَنَ مَا عَمِلُوا وَيَزِيدَهُمْ مِنْ فَضْلِهِ ۗ وَاللَّهُ يَرْزُقُ مَنْ يَشَاءُ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ

Transliteration

Liyajziyahumu Allahu ahsana maAAamiloo wayazeedahum min fadlihi wallahuyarzuqu man yashao bighayri hisab

Yusuf Ali

That Allah may reward them according to the best of their deeds, and add even more for them out of His Grace: for Allah doth provide for those whom He will, without measure.

24:38

وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا أَعْمَالُهُمْ كَسَرَابٍ بِقِيعَةٍ يَحْسَبُهُ الظَّمْآنُ مَاءً حَتَّىٰ إِذَا جَاءَهُ لَمْ يَجِدْهُ شَيْئًا وَوَجَدَ اللَّهَ عِنْدَهُ فَوَفَّاهُ حِسَابَهُ ۗ وَاللَّهُ سَرِيعُ الْحِسَابِ

Transliteration

Wallatheena kafaroo aAAmaluhumkasarabin biqeeAAatin yahsabuhu aththam-anumaan hatta itha jaahu lamyajidhu shay-an wawajada Allaha AAindahu fawaffahu hisabahuwallahu sareeAAu alhisab

Yusuf Ali

But the Unbelievers,- their deeds are like a mirage in sandy deserts, which the man parched with thirst mistakes for water; until when he comes up to it, he finds it to be nothing: But he finds Allah (ever) with him, and Allah will pay him his account: and Allah is swift in taking account.

24:39

أَوْ كَظُلُمَاتٍ فِي بَحْرٍ لُجِّيٍّ يَغْشَاهُ مَوْجٌ مِنْ فَوْقِهِ مَوْجٌ مِنْ فَوْقِهِ سَحَابٌ ۚ ظُلُمَاتٌ بَعْضُهَا فَوْقَ بَعْضٍ إِذَا أَخْرَجَ يَدَهُ لَمْ يَكَدْ يَرَاهَا ۗ وَمَنْ لَمْ يَجْعَلِ اللَّهُ لَهُ نُورًا فَمَا لَهُ مِنْ نُورٍ

Transliteration

Aw kathulumatin fee bahrinlujjiyyin yaghshahu mawjun min fawqihi mawjun min fawqihisahabun thulumatun baAAduhafawqa baAAdin itha akhraja yadahu lam yakad yarahawaman lam yajAAali Allahu lahu nooran fama lahu minnoor

Yusuf Ali

Or (the Unbelievers' state) is like the depths of darkness in a vast deep ocean, overwhelmed with billow topped by billow, topped by (dark) clouds: depths of darkness, one above another: if a man stretches out his hands, he can hardly see it! for any to whom Allah giveth not light, there is no light!

24:40

أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ اللَّهَ يُسَبِّحُ لَهُ مَنْ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَالطَّيْرُ صَافَّاتٍ ۖ كُلٌّ قَدْ عَلِمَ صَلَاتَهُ وَتَسْبِيحَهُ ۗ وَاللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ بِمَا يَفْعَلُونَ

Transliteration

Alam tara anna Allaha yusabbihulahu man fee assamawati wal-ardiwattayru saffatin kullun qadAAalima salatahu watasbeehahu wallahuAAaleemun bima yafAAaloon

Yusuf Ali

Seest thou not that it is Allah Whose praises all beings in the heavens and on earth do celebrate, and the birds (of the air) with wings outspread? Each one knows its own (mode of) prayer and praise. And Allah knows well all that they do.

24:41

وَلِلَّهِ مُلْكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ ۖ وَإِلَى اللَّهِ الْمَصِيرُ

Transliteration

Walillahi mulku assamawatiwal-ardi wa-ila Allahi almaseer

Yusuf Ali

Yea, to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth; and to Allah is the final goal (of all).

24:42

أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ اللَّهَ يُزْجِي سَحَابًا ثُمَّ يُؤَلِّفُ بَيْنَهُ ثُمَّ يَجْعَلُهُ رُكَامًا فَتَرَى الْوَدْقَ يَخْرُجُ مِنْ خِلَالِهِ وَيُنَزِّلُ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مِنْ جِبَالٍ فِيهَا مِنْ بَرَدٍ فَيُصِيبُ بِهِ مَنْ يَشَاءُ وَيَصْرِفُهُ عَنْ مَنْ يَشَاءُ ۖ يَكَادُ سَنَا بَرْقِهِ يَذْهَبُ بِالْأَبْصَارِ

Transliteration

Alam tara anna Allaha yuzjee sahabanthumma yu-allifu baynahu thumma yajAAaluhu rukaman fataraalwadqa yakhruju min khilalihi wayunazzilu mina assama-imin jibalin feeha min baradin fayuseebu bihiman yashao wayasrifuhu AAan man yashao yakadusana barqihi yathhabu bil-absar

Yusuf Ali

Seest thou not that Allah makes the clouds move gently, then joins them together, then makes them into a heap? - then wilt thou see rain issue forth from their midst. And He sends down from the sky mountain masses (of clouds) wherein is hail: He strikes therewith whom He pleases and He turns it away from whom He pleases, the vivid flash of His lightning well-nigh blinds the sight.

24:43

يُقَلِّبُ اللَّهُ اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ ۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَعِبْرَةً لِأُولِي الْأَبْصَارِ

Transliteration

Yuqallibu Allahu allayla wannaharainna fee thalika laAAibratan li-olee al-absar

Yusuf Ali

It is Allah Who alternates the Night and the Day: verily in these things is an instructive example for those who have vision!

24:44

وَاللَّهُ خَلَقَ كُلَّ دَابَّةٍ مِنْ مَاءٍ ۖ فَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَمْشِي عَلَىٰ بَطْنِهِ وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَمْشِي عَلَىٰ رِجْلَيْنِ وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَمْشِي عَلَىٰ أَرْبَعٍ ۚ يَخْلُقُ اللَّهُ مَا يَشَاءُ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

Transliteration

Wallahu khalaqa kulla dabbatinmin ma-in faminhum man yamshee AAala batnihiwaminhum man yamshee AAala rijlayni waminhum man yamsheeAAala arbaAAin yakhluqu Allahu ma yashaoinna Allaha AAala kulli shay-in qadeer

Yusuf Ali

And Allah has created every animal from water: of them there are some that creep on their bellies; some that walk on two legs; and some that walk on four. Allah creates what He wills for verily Allah has power over all things.

24:45

لَقَدْ أَنْزَلْنَا آيَاتٍ مُبَيِّنَاتٍ ۚ وَاللَّهُ يَهْدِي مَنْ يَشَاءُ إِلَىٰ صِرَاطٍ مُسْتَقِيمٍ

Transliteration

Laqad anzalna ayatinmubayyinatin wallahu yahdee man yashaoila siratin mustaqeem

Yusuf Ali

We have indeed sent down signs that make things manifest: and Allah guides whom He wills to a way that is straight.

24:46

وَيَقُولُونَ آمَنَّا بِاللَّهِ وَبِالرَّسُولِ وَأَطَعْنَا ثُمَّ يَتَوَلَّىٰ فَرِيقٌ مِنْهُمْ مِنْ بَعْدِ ذَٰلِكَ ۚ وَمَا أُولَٰئِكَ بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ

Transliteration

Wayaqooloona amanna billahiwabirrasooli waataAAna thumma yatawallafareequn minhum min baAAdi thalika wama ola-ikabilmu/mineen

Yusuf Ali

They say, "We believe in Allah and in the messenger, and we obey": but even after that, some of them turn away: they are not (really) Believers.

24:47

وَإِذَا دُعُوا إِلَى اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ لِيَحْكُمَ بَيْنَهُمْ إِذَا فَرِيقٌ مِنْهُمْ مُعْرِضُونَ

Transliteration

Wa-itha duAAoo ila Allahiwarasoolihi liyahkuma baynahum itha fareequn minhummuAAridoon

Yusuf Ali

When they are summoned to Allah and His messenger, in order that He may judge between them, behold some of them decline (to come).

24:48

وَإِنْ يَكُنْ لَهُمُ الْحَقُّ يَأْتُوا إِلَيْهِ مُذْعِنِينَ

Transliteration

Wa-in yakun lahumu alhaqqu ya/tooilayhi muthAAineen

Yusuf Ali

But if the right is on their side, they come to him with all submission.

24:49

أَفِي قُلُوبِهِمْ مَرَضٌ أَمِ ارْتَابُوا أَمْ يَخَافُونَ أَنْ يَحِيفَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمْ وَرَسُولُهُ ۚ بَلْ أُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الظَّالِمُونَ

Transliteration

Afee quloobihim maradun ami irtabooam yakhafoona an yaheefa Allahu AAalayhimwarasooluhu bal ola-ika humu aththalimoon

Yusuf Ali

Is it that there is a disease in their hearts? or do they doubt, or are they in fear, that Allah and His Messenger will deal unjustly with them? Nay, it is they themselves who do wrong.

24:50

إِنَّمَا كَانَ قَوْلَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ إِذَا دُعُوا إِلَى اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ لِيَحْكُمَ بَيْنَهُمْ أَنْ يَقُولُوا سَمِعْنَا وَأَطَعْنَا ۚ وَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ

Transliteration

Innama kana qawla almu/mineenaitha duAAoo ila Allahi warasoolihi liyahkumabaynahum an yaqooloo samiAAna waataAAna waola-ikahumu almuflihoon

Yusuf Ali

The answer of the Believers, when summoned to Allah and His Messenger, in order that He may judge between them, is no other than this: they say, "We hear and we obey": it is such as these that will attain felicity.

24:51

وَمَنْ يُطِعِ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ وَيَخْشَ اللَّهَ وَيَتَّقْهِ فَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْفَائِزُونَ

Transliteration

Waman yutiAAi Allahawarasoolahu wayakhsha Allaha wayattaqhi faola-ikahumu alfa-izoon

Yusuf Ali

It is such as obey Allah and His Messenger, and fear Allah and do right, that will win (in the end),

24:52

۞ وَأَقْسَمُوا بِاللَّهِ جَهْدَ أَيْمَانِهِمْ لَئِنْ أَمَرْتَهُمْ لَيَخْرُجُنَّ ۖ قُلْ لَا تُقْسِمُوا ۖ طَاعَةٌ مَعْرُوفَةٌ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ خَبِيرٌ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ

Transliteration

Waaqsamoo billahi jahda aymanihimla-in amartahum layakhrujunna qul la tuqsimoo taAAatunmaAAroofatun inna Allaha khabeerun bima taAAmaloon

Yusuf Ali

They swear their strongest oaths by Allah that, if only thou wouldst command them, they would leave (their homes). Say: "Swear ye not; Obedience is (more) reasonable; verily, Allah is well acquainted with all that ye do."

24:53

قُلْ أَطِيعُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُوا الرَّسُولَ ۖ فَإِنْ تَوَلَّوْا فَإِنَّمَا عَلَيْهِ مَا حُمِّلَ وَعَلَيْكُمْ مَا حُمِّلْتُمْ ۖ وَإِنْ تُطِيعُوهُ تَهْتَدُوا ۚ وَمَا عَلَى الرَّسُولِ إِلَّا الْبَلَاغُ الْمُبِينُ

Transliteration

Qul ateeAAoo Allaha waateeAAooarrasoola fa-in tawallaw fa-innama AAalayhi mahummila waAAalaykum ma hummiltum wa-in tuteeAAoohutahtadoo wama AAala arrasooli illaalbalaghu almubeen

Yusuf Ali

Say: "Obey Allah, and obey the Messenger: but if ye turn away, he is only responsible for the duty placed on him and ye for that placed on you. If ye obey him, ye shall be on right guidance. The Messenger's duty is only to preach the clear (Message).

24:54

وَعَدَ اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا مِنْكُمْ وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ لَيَسْتَخْلِفَنَّهُمْ فِي الْأَرْضِ كَمَا اسْتَخْلَفَ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ وَلَيُمَكِّنَنَّ لَهُمْ دِينَهُمُ الَّذِي ارْتَضَىٰ لَهُمْ وَلَيُبَدِّلَنَّهُمْ مِنْ بَعْدِ خَوْفِهِمْ أَمْنًا ۚ يَعْبُدُونَنِي لَا يُشْرِكُونَ بِي شَيْئًا ۚ وَمَنْ كَفَرَ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْفَاسِقُونَ

Transliteration

WaAAada Allahu allatheena amanoominkum waAAamiloo assalihatilayastakhlifannahum fee al-ardi kama istakhlafaallatheena min qablihim walayumakkinanna lahum deenahumuallathee irtada lahum walayubaddilannahum minbaAAdi khawfihim amnan yaAAbudoonanee la yushrikoona beeshay-an waman kafara baAAda thalika faola-ika humualfasiqoon

Yusuf Ali

Allah has promised, to those among you who believe and work righteous deeds, that He will, of a surety, grant them in the land, inheritance (of power), as He granted it to those before them; that He will establish in authority their religion - the one which He has chosen for them; and that He will change (their state), after the fear in which they (lived), to one of security and peace: 'They will worship Me (alone) and not associate aught with Me. 'If any do reject Faith after this, they are rebellious and wicked.

24:55

وَأَقِيمُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَآتُوا الزَّكَاةَ وَأَطِيعُوا الرَّسُولَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ

Transliteration

Waaqeemoo assalata waatooazzakata waateeAAoo arrasoolalaAAallakum turhamoon

Yusuf Ali

So establish regular Prayer and give regular Charity; and obey the Messenger; that ye may receive mercy.

24:56

لَا تَحْسَبَنَّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مُعْجِزِينَ فِي الْأَرْضِ ۚ وَمَأْوَاهُمُ النَّارُ ۖ وَلَبِئْسَ الْمَصِيرُ

Transliteration

La tahsabanna allatheenakafaroo muAAjizeena fee al-ardi wama/wahumu annaruwalabi/sa almaseer

Yusuf Ali

Never think thou that the Unbelievers are going to frustrate (Allah's Plan) on earth: their abode is the Fire,- and it is indeed an evil refuge!

24:57

يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لِيَسْتَأْذِنْكُمُ الَّذِينَ مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُكُمْ وَالَّذِينَ لَمْ يَبْلُغُوا الْحُلُمَ مِنْكُمْ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ ۚ مِنْ قَبْلِ صَلَاةِ الْفَجْرِ وَحِينَ تَضَعُونَ ثِيَابَكُمْ مِنَ الظَّهِيرَةِ وَمِنْ بَعْدِ صَلَاةِ الْعِشَاءِ ۚ ثَلَاثُ عَوْرَاتٍ لَكُمْ ۚ لَيْسَ عَلَيْكُمْ وَلَا عَلَيْهِمْ جُنَاحٌ بَعْدَهُنَّ ۚ طَوَّافُونَ عَلَيْكُمْ بَعْضُكُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُبَيِّنُ اللَّهُ لَكُمُ الْآيَاتِ ۗ وَاللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ

Transliteration

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanooliyasta/thinkumu allatheena malakat aymanukumwallatheena lam yablughoo alhuluma minkumthalatha marratin min qabli salatialfajri waheena tadaAAoona thiyabakum mina aththaheeratiwamin baAAdi salati alAAisha-i thalathuAAawratin lakum laysa AAalaykum wala AAalayhim junahunbaAAdahunna tawwafoona AAalaykum baAAdukumAAala baAAdin kathalika yubayyinu Allahulakumu al-ayati wallahu AAaleemun hakeem

Yusuf Ali

O ye who believe! let those whom your right hands possess, and the (children) among you who have not come of age ask your permission (before they come to your presence), on three occasions: before morning prayer; the while ye doff your clothes for the noonday heat; and after the late-night prayer: these are your three times of undress: outside those times it is not wrong for you or for them to move about attending to each other: Thus does Allah make clear the Signs to you: for Allah is full of knowledge and wisdom.

24:58

وَإِذَا بَلَغَ الْأَطْفَالُ مِنْكُمُ الْحُلُمَ فَلْيَسْتَأْذِنُوا كَمَا اسْتَأْذَنَ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُبَيِّنُ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ آيَاتِهِ ۗ وَاللَّهُ عَلِيمٌ حَكِيمٌ

Transliteration

Wa-itha balagha al-atfaluminkumu alhuluma falyasta/thinoo kama ista/thanaallatheena min qablihim kathalika yubayyinu Allahulakum ayatihi wallahu AAaleemun hakeem

Yusuf Ali

But when the children among you come of age, let them (also) ask for permission, as do those senior to them (in age): Thus does Allah make clear His Signs to you: for Allah is full of knowledge and wisdom.

24:59

وَالْقَوَاعِدُ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ اللَّاتِي لَا يَرْجُونَ نِكَاحًا فَلَيْسَ عَلَيْهِنَّ جُنَاحٌ أَنْ يَضَعْنَ ثِيَابَهُنَّ غَيْرَ مُتَبَرِّجَاتٍ بِزِينَةٍ ۖ وَأَنْ يَسْتَعْفِفْنَ خَيْرٌ لَهُنَّ ۗ وَاللَّهُ سَمِيعٌ عَلِيمٌ

Transliteration

WalqawaAAidu mina annisa-iallatee la yarjoona nikahan falaysaAAalayhinna junahun an yadaAAna thiyabahunnaghayra mutabarrijatin bizeenatin waan yastaAAfifna khayrunlahunna wallahu sameeAAun AAaleem

Yusuf Ali

Such elderly women as are past the prospect of marriage,- there is no blame on them if they lay aside their (outer) garments, provided they make not a wanton display of their beauty: but it is best for them to be modest: and Allah is One Who sees and knows all things.

24:60

لَيْسَ عَلَى الْأَعْمَىٰ حَرَجٌ وَلَا عَلَى الْأَعْرَجِ حَرَجٌ وَلَا عَلَى الْمَرِيضِ حَرَجٌ وَلَا عَلَىٰ أَنْفُسِكُمْ أَنْ تَأْكُلُوا مِنْ بُيُوتِكُمْ أَوْ بُيُوتِ آبَائِكُمْ أَوْ بُيُوتِ أُمَّهَاتِكُمْ أَوْ بُيُوتِ إِخْوَانِكُمْ أَوْ بُيُوتِ أَخَوَاتِكُمْ أَوْ بُيُوتِ أَعْمَامِكُمْ أَوْ بُيُوتِ عَمَّاتِكُمْ أَوْ بُيُوتِ أَخْوَالِكُمْ أَوْ بُيُوتِ خَالَاتِكُمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكْتُمْ مَفَاتِحَهُ أَوْ صَدِيقِكُمْ ۚ لَيْسَ عَلَيْكُمْ جُنَاحٌ أَنْ تَأْكُلُوا جَمِيعًا أَوْ أَشْتَاتًا ۚ فَإِذَا دَخَلْتُمْ بُيُوتًا فَسَلِّمُوا عَلَىٰ أَنْفُسِكُمْ تَحِيَّةً مِنْ عِنْدِ اللَّهِ مُبَارَكَةً طَيِّبَةً ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُبَيِّنُ اللَّهُ لَكُمُ الْآيَاتِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ

Transliteration

Laysa AAala al-aAAma harajunwala AAala al-aAAraji harajun walaAAala almareedi harajun wala AAalaanfusikum an ta/kuloo min buyootikum aw buyooti aba-ikumaw buyooti ommahatikum aw buyooti ikhwanikum awbuyooti akhawatikum aw buyooti aAAmamikum awbuyooti AAammatikum aw buyooti akhwalikum awbuyooti khalatikum aw ma malaktum mafatihahuaw sadeeqikum laysa AAalaykum junahun an ta/kuloojameeAAan aw ashtatan fa-itha dakhaltum buyootanfasallimoo AAala anfusikum tahiyyatan min AAindiAllahi mubarakatan tayyibatan kathalikayubayyinu Allahu lakumu al-ayati laAAallakumtaAAqiloon

Yusuf Ali

It is no fault in the blind nor in one born lame, nor in one afflicted with illness, nor in yourselves, that ye should eat in your own houses, or those of your fathers, or your mothers, or your brothers, or your sisters, or your father's brothers or your father's sisters, or your mohter's brothers, or your mother's sisters, or in houses of which the keys are in your possession, or in the house of a sincere friend of yours: there is no blame on you, whether ye eat in company or separately. But if ye enter houses, salute each other - a greeting of blessing and purity as from Allah. Thus does Allah make clear the signs to you: that ye may understand.

24:61

إِنَّمَا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا بِاللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ وَإِذَا كَانُوا مَعَهُ عَلَىٰ أَمْرٍ جَامِعٍ لَمْ يَذْهَبُوا حَتَّىٰ يَسْتَأْذِنُوهُ ۚ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَسْتَأْذِنُونَكَ أُولَٰئِكَ الَّذِينَ يُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ ۚ فَإِذَا اسْتَأْذَنُوكَ لِبَعْضِ شَأْنِهِمْ فَأْذَنْ لِمَنْ شِئْتَ مِنْهُمْ وَاسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمُ اللَّهَ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ

Transliteration

Innama almu/minoona allatheenaamanoo billahi warasoolihi wa-itha kanoomaAAahu AAala amrin jamiAAin lam yathhaboo hattayasta/thinoohu inna allatheena yasta/thinoonakaola-ika allatheena yu/minoona billahiwarasoolihi fa-itha ista/thanooka libaAAdisha/nihim fa/than liman shi/ta minhum wastaghfirlahumu Allaha inna Allaha ghafoorun raheem

Yusuf Ali

Only those are believers, who believe in Allah and His Messenger: when they are with him on a matter requiring collective action, they do not depart until they have asked for his leave; those who ask for thy leave are those who believe in Allah and His Messenger; so when they ask for thy leave, for some business of theirs, give leave to those of them whom thou wilt, and ask Allah for their forgiveness: for Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

24:62

لَا تَجْعَلُوا دُعَاءَ الرَّسُولِ بَيْنَكُمْ كَدُعَاءِ بَعْضِكُمْ بَعْضًا ۚ قَدْ يَعْلَمُ اللَّهُ الَّذِينَ يَتَسَلَّلُونَ مِنْكُمْ لِوَاذًا ۚ فَلْيَحْذَرِ الَّذِينَ يُخَالِفُونَ عَنْ أَمْرِهِ أَنْ تُصِيبَهُمْ فِتْنَةٌ أَوْ يُصِيبَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ

Transliteration

La tajAAaloo duAAaa arrasoolibaynakum kaduAAa-i baAAdikum baAAdan qadyaAAlamu Allahu allatheena yatasallaloona minkumliwathan falyahthari allatheena yukhalifoonaAAan amrihi an tuseebahum fitnatun aw yuseebahumAAathabun aleem

Yusuf Ali

Deem not the summons of the Messenger among yourselves like the summons of one of you to another: Allah doth know those of you who slip away under shelter of some excuse: then let those beware who withstand the Messenger's order, lest some trial befall them, or a grievous penalty be inflicted on them.

24:63

أَلَا إِنَّ لِلَّهِ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ ۖ قَدْ يَعْلَمُ مَا أَنْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ وَيَوْمَ يُرْجَعُونَ إِلَيْهِ فَيُنَبِّئُهُمْ بِمَا عَمِلُوا ۗ وَاللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عَلِيمٌ

Transliteration

Ala inna lillahi ma feeassamawati wal-ardi qadyaAAlamu ma antum AAalayhi wayawma yurjaAAoona ilayhifayunabbi-ohum bima AAamiloo wallahubikulli shay-in AAaleem

Yusuf Ali

Be quite sure that to Allah doth belong whatever is in the heavens and on earth. Well doth He know what ye are intent upon: and one day they will be brought back to Him, and He will tell them the truth of what they did: for Allah doth know all things.

24:64

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Transliteration

Bismi Allahi arrahmani arraheem

Yusuf Ali

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

تَبَارَكَ الَّذِي نَزَّلَ الْفُرْقَانَ عَلَىٰ عَبْدِهِ لِيَكُونَ لِلْعَالَمِينَ نَذِيرًا

Transliteration

Tabaraka allathee nazzalaalfurqana AAala AAabdihi liyakoona lilAAalameenanatheera

Yusuf Ali

Blessed is He who sent down the criterion to His servant, that it may be an admonition to all creatures;-

25:1

الَّذِي لَهُ مُلْكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَلَمْ يَتَّخِذْ وَلَدًا وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ شَرِيكٌ فِي الْمُلْكِ وَخَلَقَ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ فَقَدَّرَهُ تَقْدِيرًا

Transliteration

Allathee lahu mulku assamawatiwal-ardi walam yattakhith waladan walamyakun lahu shareekun fee almulki wakhalaqa kulla shay-infaqaddarahu taqdeera

Yusuf Ali

He to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth: no son has He begotten, nor has He a partner in His dominion: it is He who created all things, and ordered them in due proportions.

25:2

وَاتَّخَذُوا مِنْ دُونِهِ آلِهَةً لَا يَخْلُقُونَ شَيْئًا وَهُمْ يُخْلَقُونَ وَلَا يَمْلِكُونَ لِأَنْفُسِهِمْ ضَرًّا وَلَا نَفْعًا وَلَا يَمْلِكُونَ مَوْتًا وَلَا حَيَاةً وَلَا نُشُورًا

Transliteration

Wattakhathoo min doonihi alihatanla yakhluqoona shay-an wahum yukhlaqoona walayamlikoona li-anfusihim darran wala nafAAan walayamlikoona mawtan wala hayatan walanushoora

Yusuf Ali

Yet have they taken, besides him, gods that can create nothing but are themselves created; that have no control of hurt or good to themselves; nor can they control death nor life nor resurrection.

25:3

وَقَالَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا إِفْكٌ افْتَرَاهُ وَأَعَانَهُ عَلَيْهِ قَوْمٌ آخَرُونَ ۖ فَقَدْ جَاءُوا ظُلْمًا وَزُورًا

Transliteration

Waqala allatheena kafaroo in hathailla ifkun iftarahu waaAAanahu AAalayhiqawmun akharoona faqad jaoo thulmanwazoora

Yusuf Ali

But the misbelievers say: "Naught is this but a lie which he has forged, and others have helped him at it." In truth it is they who have put forward an iniquity and a falsehood.

25:4

وَقَالُوا أَسَاطِيرُ الْأَوَّلِينَ اكْتَتَبَهَا فَهِيَ تُمْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ بُكْرَةً وَأَصِيلًا

Transliteration

Waqaloo asateeru al-awwaleenaiktatabaha fahiya tumla AAalayhi bukratan waaseela

Yusuf Ali

And they say: "Tales of the ancients, which he has caused to be written: and they are dictated before him morning and evening."

25:5

قُلْ أَنْزَلَهُ الَّذِي يَعْلَمُ السِّرَّ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ ۚ إِنَّهُ كَانَ غَفُورًا رَحِيمًا

Transliteration

Qul anzalahu allathee yaAAlamu assirrafee assamawati wal-ardiinnahu kana ghafooran raheema

Yusuf Ali

Say: "The (Qur'an) was sent down by Him who knows the mystery (that is) in the heavens and the earth: verily He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful."

25:6

وَقَالُوا مَالِ هَٰذَا الرَّسُولِ يَأْكُلُ الطَّعَامَ وَيَمْشِي فِي الْأَسْوَاقِ ۙ لَوْلَا أُنْزِلَ إِلَيْهِ مَلَكٌ فَيَكُونَ مَعَهُ نَذِيرًا

Transliteration

Waqaloo mali hatha arrasooliya/kulu attaAAama wayamshee fee al-aswaqilawla onzila ilayhi malakun fayakoona maAAahu natheera

Yusuf Ali

And they say: "What sort of a messenger is this, who eats food, and walks through the streets? Why has not an angel been sent down to him to give admonition with him?

25:7

أَوْ يُلْقَىٰ إِلَيْهِ كَنْزٌ أَوْ تَكُونُ لَهُ جَنَّةٌ يَأْكُلُ مِنْهَا ۚ وَقَالَ الظَّالِمُونَ إِنْ تَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا رَجُلًا مَسْحُورًا

Transliteration

Aw yulqa ilayhi kanzun aw takoonu lahujannatun ya/kulu minha waqala aththalimoonain tattabiAAoona illa rajulan mashoora

Yusuf Ali

"Or (Why) has not a treasure been bestowed on him, or why has he (not) a garden for enjoyment?" The wicked say: "Ye follow none other than a man bewitched."

25:8

انْظُرْ كَيْفَ ضَرَبُوا لَكَ الْأَمْثَالَ فَضَلُّوا فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ سَبِيلًا

Transliteration

Onthur kayfa daraboolaka al-amthala fadalloo fala yastateeAAoonasabeela

Yusuf Ali

See what kinds of comparisons they make for thee! But they have gone astray, and never a way will they be able to find!

25:9

تَبَارَكَ الَّذِي إِنْ شَاءَ جَعَلَ لَكَ خَيْرًا مِنْ ذَٰلِكَ جَنَّاتٍ تَجْرِي مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الْأَنْهَارُ وَيَجْعَلْ لَكَ قُصُورًا

Transliteration

Tabaraka allathee in shaajaAAala laka khayran min thalika jannatin tajreemin tahtiha al-anharu wayajAAal laka qusoora

Yusuf Ali

Blessed is He who, if that were His will, could give thee better (things) than those,- Gardens beneath which rivers flow; and He could give thee palaces (secure to dwell in).

25:10

بَلْ كَذَّبُوا بِالسَّاعَةِ ۖ وَأَعْتَدْنَا لِمَنْ كَذَّبَ بِالسَّاعَةِ سَعِيرًا

Transliteration

Bal kaththaboo bissaAAatiwaaAAtadna liman kaththaba bissaAAatisaAAeera

Yusuf Ali

Nay they deny the hour (of the judgment to come): but We have prepared a blazing fire for such as deny the hour:

25:11

إِذَا رَأَتْهُمْ مِنْ مَكَانٍ بَعِيدٍ سَمِعُوا لَهَا تَغَيُّظًا وَزَفِيرًا

Transliteration

Itha raat-hum min makaninbaAAeedin samiAAoo laha taghayyuthanwazafeera

Yusuf Ali

When it sees them from a place fAr off, they will hear its fury and its ranging sigh.

25:12

وَإِذَا أُلْقُوا مِنْهَا مَكَانًا ضَيِّقًا مُقَرَّنِينَ دَعَوْا هُنَالِكَ ثُبُورًا

Transliteration

Wa-itha olqoo minha makanandayyiqan muqarraneena daAAaw hunalika thuboora

Yusuf Ali

And when they are cast, bound together into a constricted place therein, they will pLead for destruction there and then!

25:13

لَا تَدْعُوا الْيَوْمَ ثُبُورًا وَاحِدًا وَادْعُوا ثُبُورًا كَثِيرًا

Transliteration

La tadAAoo alyawma thubooran wahidanwadAAoo thubooran katheera

Yusuf Ali

"This day plead not for a single destruction: plead for destruction oft-repeated!"

25:14

قُلْ أَذَٰلِكَ خَيْرٌ أَمْ جَنَّةُ الْخُلْدِ الَّتِي وُعِدَ الْمُتَّقُونَ ۚ كَانَتْ لَهُمْ جَزَاءً وَمَصِيرًا

Transliteration

Qul athalika khayrun am jannatualkhuldi allatee wuAAida almuttaqoona kanat lahum jazaanwamaseera

Yusuf Ali

Say: "Is that best, or the eternal garden, promised to the righteous? for them, that is a reward as well as a goal (of attainment).

25:15

لَهُمْ فِيهَا مَا يَشَاءُونَ خَالِدِينَ ۚ كَانَ عَلَىٰ رَبِّكَ وَعْدًا مَسْئُولًا

Transliteration

Lahum feeha ma yashaoonakhalideena kana AAala rabbika waAAdanmas-oola

Yusuf Ali

"For them there will be therein all that they wish for: they will dwell (there) for aye: A promise to be prayed for from thy Lord."

25:16

وَيَوْمَ يَحْشُرُهُمْ وَمَا يَعْبُدُونَ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ فَيَقُولُ أَأَنْتُمْ أَضْلَلْتُمْ عِبَادِي هَٰؤُلَاءِ أَمْ هُمْ ضَلُّوا السَّبِيلَ

Transliteration

Wayawma yahshuruhum wamayaAAbudoona min dooni Allahi fayaqoolu aantum adlaltumAAibadee haola-i am hum dalloo assabeel

Yusuf Ali

The day He will gather them together as well as those whom they worship besides Allah, He will ask: "Was it ye who let these My servants astray, or did they stray from the Path themselves?"

25:17

قَالُوا سُبْحَانَكَ مَا كَانَ يَنْبَغِي لَنَا أَنْ نَتَّخِذَ مِنْ دُونِكَ مِنْ أَوْلِيَاءَ وَلَٰكِنْ مَتَّعْتَهُمْ وَآبَاءَهُمْ حَتَّىٰ نَسُوا الذِّكْرَ وَكَانُوا قَوْمًا بُورًا

Transliteration

Qaloo subhanaka ma kanayanbaghee lana an nattakhitha min doonika min awliyaawalakin mattaAAtahum waabaahum hattanasoo aththikra wakanoo qawman boora

Yusuf Ali

They will say: "Glory to Thee! not meet was it for us that we should take for protectors others besides Thee: But Thou didst bestow, on them and their fathers, good things (in life), until they forgot the Message: for they were a people (worthless and) lost."

25:18

فَقَدْ كَذَّبُوكُمْ بِمَا تَقُولُونَ فَمَا تَسْتَطِيعُونَ صَرْفًا وَلَا نَصْرًا ۚ وَمَنْ يَظْلِمْ مِنْكُمْ نُذِقْهُ عَذَابًا كَبِيرًا

Transliteration

Faqad kaththabookum bimataqooloona fama tastateeAAoona sarfan walanasran waman yathlim minkum nuthiqhuAAathaban kabeera

Yusuf Ali

(Allah will say): "Now have they proved you liars in what ye say: so ye cannot avert (your penalty) nor (get) help." And whoever among you does wrong, him shall We cause to taste of a grievous Penalty.

25:19

وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَا قَبْلَكَ مِنَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ إِلَّا إِنَّهُمْ لَيَأْكُلُونَ الطَّعَامَ وَيَمْشُونَ فِي الْأَسْوَاقِ ۗ وَجَعَلْنَا بَعْضَكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ فِتْنَةً أَتَصْبِرُونَ ۗ وَكَانَ رَبُّكَ بَصِيرًا

Transliteration

Wama arsalna qablaka minaalmursaleena illa innahum laya/kuloona attaAAamawayamshoona fee al-aswaqi wajaAAalna baAAdakumlibaAAdin fitnatan atasbiroona wakanarabbuka baseera

Yusuf Ali

And the messengers whom We sent before thee were all (men) who ate food and walked through the streets: We have made some of you as a trial for others: will ye have patience? for Allah is One Who sees (all things).

25:20
