Quoting the Holy Qur’an:

“And to rehearse the Qur'an: and if any accept guidance, they do it for the good of their own souls, and if any stray, say: "I am only a Warner".
An-Naml, Chapter #27, Verse #92)

Juzu' 23

The twenty-second juz’ of the Qur’an starts from verse 28 of the 36th chapter (Ya Sin 36:28) and continues to verse 31 of the 39th chapter (Az Zumar 39:31).

These chapters were revealed during the middle of the Makkan period, before the migration to Madinah.

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Transliteration

Bismi Allahi arrahmani arraheem

Yusuf Ali

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

۞ وَمَا أَنْزَلْنَا عَلَىٰ قَوْمِهِ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ مِنْ جُنْدٍ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ وَمَا كُنَّا مُنْزِلِينَ

Transliteration

Wama anzalna AAalaqawmihi min baAAdihi min jundin mina assama-i wamakunna munzileen

Yusuf Ali

And We sent not down against his People, after him, any hosts from heaven, nor was it needful for Us so to do.

36:28

إِنْ كَانَتْ إِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَاحِدَةً فَإِذَا هُمْ خَامِدُونَ

Transliteration

In kanat illa sayhatanwahidatan fa-itha hum khamidoon

Yusuf Ali

It was no more than a single mighty Blast, and behold! they were (like ashes) quenched and silent.

36:29

يَا حَسْرَةً عَلَى الْعِبَادِ ۚ مَا يَأْتِيهِمْ مِنْ رَسُولٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا بِهِ يَسْتَهْزِئُونَ

Transliteration

Ya hasratan AAalaalAAibadi ma ya/teehim min rasoolin illa kanoobihi yastahzi-oon

Yusuf Ali

Ah! Alas for (My) Servants! There comes not a messenger to them but they mock him!

36:30

أَلَمْ يَرَوْا كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا قَبْلَهُمْ مِنَ الْقُرُونِ أَنَّهُمْ إِلَيْهِمْ لَا يَرْجِعُونَ

Transliteration

Alam yaraw kam ahlakna qablahum minaalqurooni annahum ilayhim la yarjiAAoon

Yusuf Ali

See they not how many generations before them we destroyed? Not to them will they return:

36:31

وَإِنْ كُلٌّ لَمَّا جَمِيعٌ لَدَيْنَا مُحْضَرُونَ

Transliteration

Wa-in kullun lamma jameeAAun ladaynamuhdaroon

Yusuf Ali

But each one of them all - will be brought before Us (for judgment).

36:32

وَآيَةٌ لَهُمُ الْأَرْضُ الْمَيْتَةُ أَحْيَيْنَاهَا وَأَخْرَجْنَا مِنْهَا حَبًّا فَمِنْهُ يَأْكُلُونَ

Transliteration

Waayatun lahumu al-ardualmaytatu ahyaynaha waakhrajna minhahabban faminhu ya/kuloon

Yusuf Ali

A Sign for them is the earth that is dead: We do give it life, and produce grain therefrom, of which ye do eat.

36:33

وَجَعَلْنَا فِيهَا جَنَّاتٍ مِنْ نَخِيلٍ وَأَعْنَابٍ وَفَجَّرْنَا فِيهَا مِنَ الْعُيُونِ

Transliteration

WajaAAalna feeha jannatinmin nakheelin waaAAnabin wafajjarna feehamina alAAuyoon

Yusuf Ali

And We produce therein orchard with date-palms and vines, and We cause springs to gush forth therein:

36:34

لِيَأْكُلُوا مِنْ ثَمَرِهِ وَمَا عَمِلَتْهُ أَيْدِيهِمْ ۖ أَفَلَا يَشْكُرُونَ

Transliteration

Liya/kuloo min thamarihi wamaAAamilat-hu aydeehim afala yashkuroon

Yusuf Ali

That they may enjoy the fruits of this (artistry): It was not their hands that made this: will they not then give thanks?

36:35

سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ الْأَزْوَاجَ كُلَّهَا مِمَّا تُنْبِتُ الْأَرْضُ وَمِنْ أَنْفُسِهِمْ وَمِمَّا لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

Transliteration

Subhana allathee khalaqaal-azwaja kullaha mimma tunbitu al-arduwamin anfusihim wamimma la yaAAlamoon

Yusuf Ali

Glory to Allah, Who created in pairs all things that the earth produces, as well as their own (human) kind and (other) things of which they have no knowledge.

36:36

وَآيَةٌ لَهُمُ اللَّيْلُ نَسْلَخُ مِنْهُ النَّهَارَ فَإِذَا هُمْ مُظْلِمُونَ

Transliteration

Waayatun lahumu allaylu naslakhuminhu annahara fa-itha hum muthlimoon

Yusuf Ali

And a Sign for them is the Night: We withdraw therefrom the Day, and behold they are plunged in darkness;

36:37

وَالشَّمْسُ تَجْرِي لِمُسْتَقَرٍّ لَهَا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ تَقْدِيرُ الْعَزِيزِ الْعَلِيمِ

Transliteration

Washshamsu tajree limustaqarrin lahathalika taqdeeru alAAazeezi alAAaleem

Yusuf Ali

And the sun runs his course for a period determined for him: that is the decree of (Him), the Exalted in Might, the All-Knowing.

36:38

وَالْقَمَرَ قَدَّرْنَاهُ مَنَازِلَ حَتَّىٰ عَادَ كَالْعُرْجُونِ الْقَدِيمِ

Transliteration

Walqamara qaddarnahu manazilahatta AAada kalAAurjooni alqadeem

Yusuf Ali

And the Moon,- We have measured for her mansions (to traverse) till she returns like the old (and withered) lower part of a date-stalk.

36:39

لَا الشَّمْسُ يَنْبَغِي لَهَا أَنْ تُدْرِكَ الْقَمَرَ وَلَا اللَّيْلُ سَابِقُ النَّهَارِ ۚ وَكُلٌّ فِي فَلَكٍ يَسْبَحُونَ

Transliteration

La ashshamsu yanbaghee lahaan tudrika alqamara wala allaylu sabiqu annahariwakullun fee falakin yasbahoon

Yusuf Ali

It is not permitted to the Sun to catch up the Moon, nor can the Night outstrip the Day: Each (just) swims along in (its own) orbit (according to Law).

36:40

وَآيَةٌ لَهُمْ أَنَّا حَمَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ فِي الْفُلْكِ الْمَشْحُونِ

Transliteration

Waayatun lahum anna hamalnathurriyyatahum fee alfulki almashhoon

Yusuf Ali

And a Sign for them is that We bore their race (through the Flood) in the loaded Ark;

36:41

وَخَلَقْنَا لَهُمْ مِنْ مِثْلِهِ مَا يَرْكَبُونَ

Transliteration

Wakhalaqna lahum min mithlihi mayarkaboon

Yusuf Ali

And We have created for them similar (vessels) on which they ride.

36:42

وَإِنْ نَشَأْ نُغْرِقْهُمْ فَلَا صَرِيخَ لَهُمْ وَلَا هُمْ يُنْقَذُونَ

Transliteration

Wa-in nasha/ nughriqhum fala sareekhalahum wala hum yunqathoon

Yusuf Ali

If it were Our Will, We could drown them: then would there be no helper (to hear their cry), nor could they be delivered,

36:43

إِلَّا رَحْمَةً مِنَّا وَمَتَاعًا إِلَىٰ حِينٍ

Transliteration

Illa rahmatan minnawamataAAan ila heen

Yusuf Ali

Except by way of Mercy from Us, and by way of (world) convenience (to serve them) for a time.

36:44

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ اتَّقُوا مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيكُمْ وَمَا خَلْفَكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ

Transliteration

Wa-itha qeela lahumu ittaqoo mabayna aydeekum wama khalfakum laAAallakum turhamoon

Yusuf Ali

When they are told, "Fear ye that which is before you and that which will be after you, in order that ye may receive Mercy," (they turn back).

36:45

وَمَا تَأْتِيهِمْ مِنْ آيَةٍ مِنْ آيَاتِ رَبِّهِمْ إِلَّا كَانُوا عَنْهَا مُعْرِضِينَ

Transliteration

Wama ta/teehim min ayatin min ayatirabbihim illa kanoo AAanha muAArideen

Yusuf Ali

Not a Sign comes to them from among the Signs of their Lord, but they turn away therefrom.

36:46

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ أَنْفِقُوا مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ اللَّهُ قَالَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لِلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَنُطْعِمُ مَنْ لَوْ يَشَاءُ اللَّهُ أَطْعَمَهُ إِنْ أَنْتُمْ إِلَّا فِي ضَلَالٍ مُبِينٍ

Transliteration

Wa-itha qeela lahum anfiqoo mimmarazaqakumu Allahu qala allatheena kafaroolillatheena amanoo anutAAimu man law yashaoAllahu atAAamahu in antum illa fee dalalinmubeen

Yusuf Ali

And when they are told, "Spend ye of (the bounties) with which Allah has provided you," the Unbelievers say to those who believe: "Shall we then feed those whom, if Allah had so willed, He would have fed, (Himself)?- Ye are in nothing but manifest error."

36:47

وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَٰذَا الْوَعْدُ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ

Transliteration

Wayaqooloona mata hathaalwaAAdu in kuntum sadiqeen

Yusuf Ali

Further, they say, "When will this promise (come to pass), if what ye say is true?"

36:48

مَا يَنْظُرُونَ إِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَاحِدَةً تَأْخُذُهُمْ وَهُمْ يَخِصِّمُونَ

Transliteration

Ma yanthuroona illasayhatan wahidatan ta/khuthuhum wahumyakhissimoon

Yusuf Ali

They will not (have to) wait for aught but a single Blast: it will seize them while they are yet disputing among themselves!

36:49

فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ تَوْصِيَةً وَلَا إِلَىٰ أَهْلِهِمْ يَرْجِعُونَ

Transliteration

Fala yastateeAAoona tawsiyatanwala ila ahlihim yarjiAAoon

Yusuf Ali

No (chance) will they then have, by will, to dispose (of their affairs), nor to return to their own people!

36:50

وَنُفِخَ فِي الصُّورِ فَإِذَا هُمْ مِنَ الْأَجْدَاثِ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِمْ يَنْسِلُونَ

Transliteration

Wanufikha fee assoori fa-ithahum mina al-ajdathi ila rabbihim yansiloon

Yusuf Ali

The trumpet shall be sounded, when behold! from thesepulchres (men) will rush forth to their Lord!

36:51

قَالُوا يَا وَيْلَنَا مَنْ بَعَثَنَا مِنْ مَرْقَدِنَا ۜ ۗ هَٰذَا مَا وَعَدَ الرَّحْمَٰنُ وَصَدَقَ الْمُرْسَلُونَ

Transliteration

Qaloo ya waylana manbaAAathana min marqadina hatha mawaAAada arrahmanu wasadaqaalmursaloon

Yusuf Ali

They will say: "Ah! Woe unto us! Who hath raised us up from our beds of repose?"... (A voice will say:) "This is what (Allah) Most Gracious had promised. And true was the word of the messengers!"

36:52

إِنْ كَانَتْ إِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَاحِدَةً فَإِذَا هُمْ جَمِيعٌ لَدَيْنَا مُحْضَرُونَ

Transliteration

In kanat illa sayhatanwahidatan fa-itha hum jameeAAun ladayna muhdaroon

Yusuf Ali

It will be no more than a single Blast, when lo! they will all be brought up before Us!

36:53

فَالْيَوْمَ لَا تُظْلَمُ نَفْسٌ شَيْئًا وَلَا تُجْزَوْنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ

Transliteration

Falyawma la tuthlamunafsun shay-an wala tujzawna illa ma kuntumtaAAmaloon

Yusuf Ali

Then, on that Day, not a soul will be wronged in the least, and ye shall but be repaid the meeds of your past Deeds.

36:54

إِنَّ أَصْحَابَ الْجَنَّةِ الْيَوْمَ فِي شُغُلٍ فَاكِهُونَ

Transliteration

Inna as-haba aljannati alyawmafee shughulin fakihoon

Yusuf Ali

Verily the Companions of the Garden shall that Day have joy in all that they do;

36:55

هُمْ وَأَزْوَاجُهُمْ فِي ظِلَالٍ عَلَى الْأَرَائِكِ مُتَّكِئُونَ

Transliteration

Hum waazwajuhum fee thilalinAAala al-ara-iki muttaki-oon

Yusuf Ali

They and their associates will be in groves of (cool) shade, reclining on Thrones (of dignity);

36:56

لَهُمْ فِيهَا فَاكِهَةٌ وَلَهُمْ مَا يَدَّعُونَ

Transliteration

Lahum feeha fakihatun walahumma yaddaAAoon

Yusuf Ali

(Every) fruit (enjoyment) will be there for them; they shall have whatever they call for;

36:57

سَلَامٌ قَوْلًا مِنْ رَبٍّ رَحِيمٍ

Transliteration

Salamun qawlan min rabbin raheem

Yusuf Ali

"Peace!" - a word (of salutation) from a Lord Most Merciful!

36:58

وَامْتَازُوا الْيَوْمَ أَيُّهَا الْمُجْرِمُونَ

Transliteration

Wamtazoo alyawma ayyuhaalmujrimoon

Yusuf Ali

"And O ye in sin! Get ye apart this Day!

36:59

۞ أَلَمْ أَعْهَدْ إِلَيْكُمْ يَا بَنِي آدَمَ أَنْ لَا تَعْبُدُوا الشَّيْطَانَ ۖ إِنَّهُ لَكُمْ عَدُوٌّ مُبِينٌ

Transliteration

Alam aAAhad ilaykum ya banee adamaan la taAAbudoo ashshaytana innahu lakumAAaduwwun mubeen

Yusuf Ali

"Did I not enjoin on you, O ye Children of Adam, that ye should not worship Satan; for that he was to you an enemy avowed?-

36:60

وَأَنِ اعْبُدُونِي ۚ هَٰذَا صِرَاطٌ مُسْتَقِيمٌ

Transliteration

Waani oAAbudoonee hatha siratunmustaqeem

Yusuf Ali

"And that ye should worship Me, (for that) this was the Straight Way?

36:61

وَلَقَدْ أَضَلَّ مِنْكُمْ جِبِلًّا كَثِيرًا ۖ أَفَلَمْ تَكُونُوا تَعْقِلُونَ

Transliteration

Walaqad adalla minkum jibillankatheeran afalam takoonoo taAAqiloon

Yusuf Ali

"But he did lead astray a great multitude of you. Did ye not, then, understand?

36:62

هَٰذِهِ جَهَنَّمُ الَّتِي كُنْتُمْ تُوعَدُونَ

Transliteration

Hathihi jahannamu allatee kuntumtooAAadoon

Yusuf Ali

"This is the Hell of which ye were (repeatedly) warned!

36:63

اصْلَوْهَا الْيَوْمَ بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَكْفُرُونَ

Transliteration

Islawha alyawma bimakuntum takfuroon

Yusuf Ali

"Embrace ye the (fire) this Day, for that ye (persistently) rejected (Truth)."

36:64

الْيَوْمَ نَخْتِمُ عَلَىٰ أَفْوَاهِهِمْ وَتُكَلِّمُنَا أَيْدِيهِمْ وَتَشْهَدُ أَرْجُلُهُمْ بِمَا كَانُوا يَكْسِبُونَ

Transliteration

Alyawma nakhtimu AAala afwahihimwatukallimuna aydeehim watashhadu arjuluhum bima kanooyaksiboon

Yusuf Ali

That Day shall We set a seal on their mouths. But their hands will speak to us, and their feet bear witness, to all that they did.

36:65

وَلَوْ نَشَاءُ لَطَمَسْنَا عَلَىٰ أَعْيُنِهِمْ فَاسْتَبَقُوا الصِّرَاطَ فَأَنَّىٰ يُبْصِرُونَ

Transliteration

Walaw nashao latamasnaAAala aAAyunihim fastabaqoo assiratafaanna yubsiroon

Yusuf Ali

If it had been our Will, We could surely have blotted out their eyes; then should they have run about groping for the Path, but how could they have seen?

36:66

وَلَوْ نَشَاءُ لَمَسَخْنَاهُمْ عَلَىٰ مَكَانَتِهِمْ فَمَا اسْتَطَاعُوا مُضِيًّا وَلَا يَرْجِعُونَ

Transliteration

Walaw nashao lamasakhnahumAAala makanatihim fama istataAAoo mudiyyanwala yarjiAAoon

Yusuf Ali

And if it had been Our Will, We could have transformed them (to remain) in their places; then should they have been unable to move about, nor could they have returned (after error).

36:67

وَمَنْ نُعَمِّرْهُ نُنَكِّسْهُ فِي الْخَلْقِ ۖ أَفَلَا يَعْقِلُونَ

Transliteration

Waman nuAAammirhu nunakkis-hu fee alkhalqiafala yaAAqiloon

Yusuf Ali

If We grant long life to any, We cause him to be reversed in nature: Will they not then understand?

36:68

وَمَا عَلَّمْنَاهُ الشِّعْرَ وَمَا يَنْبَغِي لَهُ ۚ إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ وَقُرْآنٌ مُبِينٌ

Transliteration

Wama AAallamnahu ashshiAArawama yanbaghee lahu in huwa illa thikrunwaqur-anun mubeen

Yusuf Ali

We have not instructed the (Prophet) in Poetry, nor is it meet for him: this is no less than a Message and a Qur'an making things clear:

36:69

لِيُنْذِرَ مَنْ كَانَ حَيًّا وَيَحِقَّ الْقَوْلُ عَلَى الْكَافِرِينَ

Transliteration

Liyunthira man kana hayyanwayahiqqa alqawlu AAala alkafireen

Yusuf Ali

That it may give admonition to any (who are) alive, and that the charge may be proved against those who reject (Truth).

36:70

أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا أَنَّا خَلَقْنَا لَهُمْ مِمَّا عَمِلَتْ أَيْدِينَا أَنْعَامًا فَهُمْ لَهَا مَالِكُونَ

Transliteration

Awa lam yaraw anna khalaqnalahum mimma AAamilat aydeena anAAaman fahumlaha malikoon

Yusuf Ali

See they not that it is We Who have created for them - among the things which Our hands have fashioned - cattle, which are under their dominion?-

36:71

وَذَلَّلْنَاهَا لَهُمْ فَمِنْهَا رَكُوبُهُمْ وَمِنْهَا يَأْكُلُونَ

Transliteration

Wathallalnaha lahumfaminha rakoobuhum waminha ya/kuloon

Yusuf Ali

And that We have subjected them to their (use)? of them some do carry them and some they eat:

36:72

وَلَهُمْ فِيهَا مَنَافِعُ وَمَشَارِبُ ۖ أَفَلَا يَشْكُرُونَ

Transliteration

Walahum feeha manafiAAu wamasharibuafala yashkuroon

Yusuf Ali

And they have (other) profits from them (besides), and they get (milk) to drink. Will they not then be grateful?

36:73

وَاتَّخَذُوا مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ آلِهَةً لَعَلَّهُمْ يُنْصَرُونَ

Transliteration

Wattakhathoo min dooni Allahialihatan laAAallahum yunsaroon

Yusuf Ali

Yet they take (for worship) gods other than Allah, (hoping) that they might be helped!

36:74

لَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ نَصْرَهُمْ وَهُمْ لَهُمْ جُنْدٌ مُحْضَرُونَ

Transliteration

La yastateeAAoona nasrahumwahum lahum jundun muhdaroon

Yusuf Ali

They have not the power to help them: but they will be brought up (before Our Judgment-seat) as a troop (to be condemned).

36:75

فَلَا يَحْزُنْكَ قَوْلُهُمْ ۘ إِنَّا نَعْلَمُ مَا يُسِرُّونَ وَمَا يُعْلِنُونَ

Transliteration

Fala yahzunka qawluhum innanaAAlamu ma yusirroona wama yuAAlinoon

Yusuf Ali

Let not their speech, then, grieve thee. Verily We know what they hide as well as what they disclose.

36:76

أَوَلَمْ يَرَ الْإِنْسَانُ أَنَّا خَلَقْنَاهُ مِنْ نُطْفَةٍ فَإِذَا هُوَ خَصِيمٌ مُبِينٌ

Transliteration

Awa lam yara al-insanu annakhalaqnahu min nutfatin fa-itha huwa khaseemunmubeen

Yusuf Ali

Doth not man see that it is We Who created him from sperm? yet behold! he (stands forth) as an open adversary!

36:77

وَضَرَبَ لَنَا مَثَلًا وَنَسِيَ خَلْقَهُ ۖ قَالَ مَنْ يُحْيِي الْعِظَامَ وَهِيَ رَمِيمٌ

Transliteration

Wadaraba lana mathalanwanasiya khalqahu qala man yuhyee alAAithamawahiya rameem

Yusuf Ali

And he makes comparisons for Us, and forgets his own (origin and) Creation: He says, "Who can give life to (dry) bones and decomposed ones (at that)?"

36:78

قُلْ يُحْيِيهَا الَّذِي أَنْشَأَهَا أَوَّلَ مَرَّةٍ ۖ وَهُوَ بِكُلِّ خَلْقٍ عَلِيمٌ

Transliteration

Qul yuhyeeha allatheeanshaaha awwala marratin wahuwa bikulli khalqin AAaleem

Yusuf Ali

Say, "He will give them life Who created them for the first time! for He is Well-versed in every kind of creation!-

36:79

الَّذِي جَعَلَ لَكُمْ مِنَ الشَّجَرِ الْأَخْضَرِ نَارًا فَإِذَا أَنْتُمْ مِنْهُ تُوقِدُونَ

Transliteration

Allathee jaAAala lakum mina ashshajarial-akhdari naran fa-itha antum minhutooqidoon

Yusuf Ali

"The same Who produces for you fire out of the green tree, when behold! ye kindle therewith (your own fires)!

36:80

أَوَلَيْسَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ بِقَادِرٍ عَلَىٰ أَنْ يَخْلُقَ مِثْلَهُمْ ۚ بَلَىٰ وَهُوَ الْخَلَّاقُ الْعَلِيمُ

Transliteration

Awa laysa allathee khalaqa assamawatiwal-arda biqadirin AAala an yakhluqamithlahum bala wahuwa alkhallaqu alAAaleem

Yusuf Ali

"Is not He Who created the heavens and the earth able to create the like thereof?" - Yea, indeed! for He is the Creator Supreme, of skill and knowledge (infinite)!

36:81

إِنَّمَا أَمْرُهُ إِذَا أَرَادَ شَيْئًا أَنْ يَقُولَ لَهُ كُنْ فَيَكُونُ

Transliteration

Innama amruhu itha aradashay-an an yaqoola lahu kun fayakoon

Yusuf Ali

Verily, when He intends a thing, His Command is, "be", and it is!

36:82

فَسُبْحَانَ الَّذِي بِيَدِهِ مَلَكُوتُ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ وَإِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُونَ

Transliteration

Fasubhana allathee biyadihimalakootu kulli shay-in wa-ilayhi turjaAAoon

Yusuf Ali

So glory to Him in Whose hands is the dominion of all things: and to Him will ye be all brought back.

36:83

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Transliteration

Bismi Allahi arrahmani arraheem

Yusuf Ali

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

وَالصَّافَّاتِ صَفًّا

Transliteration

Wassaffati saffa

Yusuf Ali

By those who range themselves in ranks,

37:1

فَالزَّاجِرَاتِ زَجْرًا

Transliteration

Fazzajirati zajra

Yusuf Ali

And so are strong in repelling (evil),

37:2

فَالتَّالِيَاتِ ذِكْرًا

Transliteration

Fattaliyati thikra

Yusuf Ali

And thus proclaim the Message (of Allah)!

37:3

إِنَّ إِلَٰهَكُمْ لَوَاحِدٌ

Transliteration

Inna ilahakum lawahid

Yusuf Ali

Verily, verily, your Allah is one!-

37:4

رَبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَرَبُّ الْمَشَارِقِ

Transliteration

Rabbu assamawati wal-ardiwama baynahuma warabbu almashariq

Yusuf Ali

Lord of the heavens and of the earth and all between them, and Lord of every point at the rising of the sun!

37:5

إِنَّا زَيَّنَّا السَّمَاءَ الدُّنْيَا بِزِينَةٍ الْكَوَاكِبِ

Transliteration

Inna zayyanna assamaaaddunya bizeenatin alkawakib

Yusuf Ali

We have indeed decked the lower heaven with beauty (in) the stars,-

37:6

وَحِفْظًا مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ مَارِدٍ

Transliteration

Wahifthan min kulli shaytaninmarid

Yusuf Ali

(For beauty) and for guard against all obstinate rebellious evil spirits,

37:7

لَا يَسَّمَّعُونَ إِلَى الْمَلَإِ الْأَعْلَىٰ وَيُقْذَفُونَ مِنْ كُلِّ جَانِبٍ

Transliteration

La yassammaAAoona ila almala-ial-aAAla wayuqthafoona min kulli janib

Yusuf Ali

(So) they should not strain their ears in the direction of the Exalted Assembly but be cast away from every side,

37:8

دُحُورًا ۖ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ وَاصِبٌ

Transliteration

Duhooran walahum AAathabun wasib

Yusuf Ali

Repulsed, for they are under a perpetual penalty,

37:9

إِلَّا مَنْ خَطِفَ الْخَطْفَةَ فَأَتْبَعَهُ شِهَابٌ ثَاقِبٌ

Transliteration

Illa man khatifa alkhatfatafaatbaAAahu shihabun thaqib

Yusuf Ali

Except such as snatch away something by stealth, and they are pursued by a flaming fire, of piercing brightness.

37:10

فَاسْتَفْتِهِمْ أَهُمْ أَشَدُّ خَلْقًا أَمْ مَنْ خَلَقْنَا ۚ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَاهُمْ مِنْ طِينٍ لَازِبٍ

Transliteration

Fastaftihim ahum ashaddu khalqan amman khalaqna inna khalaqnahum min teeninlazib

Yusuf Ali

Just ask their opinion: are they the more difficult to create, or the (other) beings We have created? Them have We created out of a sticky clay!

37:11

بَلْ عَجِبْتَ وَيَسْخَرُونَ

Transliteration

Bal AAajibta wayaskharoon

Yusuf Ali

Truly dost thou marvel, while they ridicule,

37:12

وَإِذَا ذُكِّرُوا لَا يَذْكُرُونَ

Transliteration

Wa-itha thukkiroo la yathkuroon

Yusuf Ali

And, when they are admonished, pay no heed,-

37:13

وَإِذَا رَأَوْا آيَةً يَسْتَسْخِرُونَ

Transliteration

Wa-itha raaw ayatanyastaskhiroon

Yusuf Ali

And, when they see a Sign, turn it to mockery,

37:14

وَقَالُوا إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا سِحْرٌ مُبِينٌ

Transliteration

Waqaloo in hatha illasihrun mubeen

Yusuf Ali

And say, "This is nothing but evident sorcery!

37:15

أَإِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَامًا أَإِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ

Transliteration

A-itha mitna wakunnaturaban waAAithaman a-innalamabAAoothoon

Yusuf Ali

"What! when we die, and become dust and bones, shall we (then) be raised up (again)

37:16

أَوَآبَاؤُنَا الْأَوَّلُونَ

Transliteration

Awa abaona al-awwaloon

Yusuf Ali

"And also our fathers of old?"

37:17

قُلْ نَعَمْ وَأَنْتُمْ دَاخِرُونَ

Transliteration

Qul naAAam waantum dakhiroon

Yusuf Ali

Say thou: "Yea, and ye shall then be humiliated (on account of your evil)."

37:18

فَإِنَّمَا هِيَ زَجْرَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ فَإِذَا هُمْ يَنْظُرُونَ

Transliteration

Fa-innama hiya zajratun wahidatunfa-itha hum yanthuroon

Yusuf Ali

Then it will be a single (compelling) cry; and behold, they will begin to see!

37:19

وَقَالُوا يَا وَيْلَنَا هَٰذَا يَوْمُ الدِّينِ

Transliteration

Waqaloo ya waylana hathayawmu addeen

Yusuf Ali

They will say, "Ah! Woe to us! This is the Day of Judgment!"

37:20

هَٰذَا يَوْمُ الْفَصْلِ الَّذِي كُنْتُمْ بِهِ تُكَذِّبُونَ

Transliteration

Hatha yawmu alfasli allatheekuntum bihi tukaththiboon

Yusuf Ali

(A voice will say,) "This is the Day of Sorting Out, whose truth ye (once) denied!"

37:21

۞ احْشُرُوا الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا وَأَزْوَاجَهُمْ وَمَا كَانُوا يَعْبُدُونَ

Transliteration

Ohshuroo allatheena thalamoowaazwajahum wama kanoo yaAAbudoon

Yusuf Ali

"Bring ye up", it shall be said, "The wrong-doers and their wives, and the things they worshipped-

37:22

مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ فَاهْدُوهُمْ إِلَىٰ صِرَاطِ الْجَحِيمِ

Transliteration

Min dooni Allahi fahdoohum ilasirati aljaheem

Yusuf Ali

"Besides Allah, and lead them to the Way to the (Fierce) Fire!

37:23

وَقِفُوهُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ مَسْئُولُونَ

Transliteration

Waqifoohum innahum masooloon

Yusuf Ali

"But stop them, for they must be asked:

37:24

مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنَاصَرُونَ

Transliteration

Ma lakum la tanasaroon

Yusuf Ali

"'What is the matter with you that ye help not each other?'"

37:25

بَلْ هُمُ الْيَوْمَ مُسْتَسْلِمُونَ

Transliteration

Bal humu alyawma mustaslimoon

Yusuf Ali

Nay, but that day they shall submit (to Judgment);

37:26

وَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ

Transliteration

Waaqbala baAAduhum AAala baAAdinyatasaaloon

Yusuf Ali

And they will turn to one another, and question one another.

37:27

قَالُوا إِنَّكُمْ كُنْتُمْ تَأْتُونَنَا عَنِ الْيَمِينِ

Transliteration

Qaloo innakum kuntum ta/toonanaAAani alyameen

Yusuf Ali

They will say: "It was ye who used to come to us from the right hand (of power and authority)!"

37:28

قَالُوا بَلْ لَمْ تَكُونُوا مُؤْمِنِينَ

Transliteration

Qaloo bal lam takoonoo mu/mineen

Yusuf Ali

They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith!

37:29

وَمَا كَانَ لَنَا عَلَيْكُمْ مِنْ سُلْطَانٍ ۖ بَلْ كُنْتُمْ قَوْمًا طَاغِينَ

Transliteration

Wama kana lanaAAalaykum min sultanin bal kuntum qawman tagheen

Yusuf Ali

"Nor had we any authority over you. Nay, it was ye who were a people in obstinate rebellion!

37:30

فَحَقَّ عَلَيْنَا قَوْلُ رَبِّنَا ۖ إِنَّا لَذَائِقُونَ

Transliteration

Fahaqqa AAalayna qawlu rabbinainna latha-iqoon

Yusuf Ali

"So now has been proved true, against us, the word of our Lord that we shall indeed (have to) taste (the punishment of our sins).

37:31

فَأَغْوَيْنَاكُمْ إِنَّا كُنَّا غَاوِينَ

Transliteration

Faaghwaynakum inna kunnaghaween

Yusuf Ali

"We led you astray: for truly we were ourselves astray."

37:32

فَإِنَّهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ فِي الْعَذَابِ مُشْتَرِكُونَ

Transliteration

Fa-innahum yawma-ithin fee alAAathabimushtarikoon

Yusuf Ali

Truly, that Day, they will (all) share in the Penalty.

37:33

إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَفْعَلُ بِالْمُجْرِمِينَ

Transliteration

Inna kathalika nafAAalu bilmujrimeen

Yusuf Ali

Verily that is how We shall deal with Sinners.

37:34

إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا إِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمْ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ

Transliteration

Innahum kanoo itha qeela lahumla ilaha illa Allahu yastakbiroon

Yusuf Ali

For they, when they were told that there is no god except Allah, would puff themselves up with Pride,

37:35

وَيَقُولُونَ أَئِنَّا لَتَارِكُو آلِهَتِنَا لِشَاعِرٍ مَجْنُونٍ

Transliteration

Wayaqooloona a-inna latarikoo alihatinalishaAAirin majnoon

Yusuf Ali

And say: "What! shall we give up our gods for the sake of a Poet possessed?"

37:36

بَلْ جَاءَ بِالْحَقِّ وَصَدَّقَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ

Transliteration

Bal jaa bilhaqqi wasaddaqaalmursaleen

Yusuf Ali

Nay! he has come with the (very) Truth, and he confirms (the Message of) the messengers (before him).

37:37

إِنَّكُمْ لَذَائِقُو الْعَذَابِ الْأَلِيمِ

Transliteration

Innakum latha-iqoo alAAathabial-aleem

Yusuf Ali

Ye shall indeed taste of the Grievous Penalty;-

37:38

وَمَا تُجْزَوْنَ إِلَّا مَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ

Transliteration

Wama tujzawna illa makuntum taAAmaloon

Yusuf Ali

But it will be no more than the retribution of (the Evil) that ye have wrought;-

37:39

إِلَّا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ الْمُخْلَصِينَ

Transliteration

Illa AAibada Allahialmukhlaseen

Yusuf Ali

But the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah,-

37:40

أُولَٰئِكَ لَهُمْ رِزْقٌ مَعْلُومٌ

Transliteration

Ola-ika lahum rizqun maAAloom

Yusuf Ali

For them is a Sustenance determined,

37:41

فَوَاكِهُ ۖ وَهُمْ مُكْرَمُونَ

Transliteration

Fawakihu wahum mukramoon

Yusuf Ali

Fruits (Delights); and they (shall enjoy) honour and dignity,

37:42

فِي جَنَّاتِ النَّعِيمِ

Transliteration

Fee jannati annaAAeem

Yusuf Ali

In Gardens of Felicity,

37:43

عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مُتَقَابِلِينَ

Transliteration

AAala sururin mutaqabileen

Yusuf Ali

Facing each other on Thrones (of Dignity):

37:44

يُطَافُ عَلَيْهِمْ بِكَأْسٍ مِنْ مَعِينٍ

Transliteration

Yutafu AAalayhim bika/sin min maAAeen

Yusuf Ali

Round will be passed to them a Cup from a clear-flowing fountain,

37:45

بَيْضَاءَ لَذَّةٍ لِلشَّارِبِينَ

Transliteration

Baydaa laththatin lishsharibeen

Yusuf Ali

Crystal-white, of a taste delicious to those who drink (thereof),

37:46

لَا فِيهَا غَوْلٌ وَلَا هُمْ عَنْهَا يُنْزَفُونَ

Transliteration

La feeha ghawlun walahum AAanha yunzafoon

Yusuf Ali

Free from headiness; nor will they suffer intoxication therefrom.

37:47

وَعِنْدَهُمْ قَاصِرَاتُ الطَّرْفِ عِينٌ

Transliteration

WaAAindahum qasiratu attarfiAAeen

Yusuf Ali

And besides them will be chaste women, restraining their glances, with big eyes (of wonder and beauty).

37:48

كَأَنَّهُنَّ بَيْضٌ مَكْنُونٌ

Transliteration

Kaannahunna baydun maknoon

Yusuf Ali

As if they were (delicate) eggs closely guarded.

37:49

فَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ

Transliteration

Faaqbala baAAduhum AAala baAAdinyatasaaloon

Yusuf Ali

Then they will turn to one another and question one another.

37:50

قَالَ قَائِلٌ مِنْهُمْ إِنِّي كَانَ لِي قَرِينٌ

Transliteration

Qala qa-ilun minhum innee kanalee qareen

Yusuf Ali

One of them will start the talk and say: "I had an intimate companion (on the earth),

37:51

يَقُولُ أَإِنَّكَ لَمِنَ الْمُصَدِّقِينَ

Transliteration

Yaqoolu a-innaka lamina almusaddiqeen

Yusuf Ali

"Who used to say, 'what! art thou amongst those who bear witness to the Truth (of the Message)?

37:52

أَإِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَامًا أَإِنَّا لَمَدِينُونَ

Transliteration

A-itha mitna wakunnaturaban waAAithaman a-innalamadeenoon

Yusuf Ali

"'When we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed receive rewards and punishments?'"

37:53

قَالَ هَلْ أَنْتُمْ مُطَّلِعُونَ

Transliteration

Qala hal antum muttaliAAoon

Yusuf Ali

(A voice) said: "Would ye like to look down?"

37:54

فَاطَّلَعَ فَرَآهُ فِي سَوَاءِ الْجَحِيمِ

Transliteration

FattalaAAa faraahu feesawa-i aljaheem

Yusuf Ali

He looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire.

37:55

قَالَ تَاللَّهِ إِنْ كِدْتَ لَتُرْدِينِ

Transliteration

Qala tallahi in kidtalaturdeen

Yusuf Ali

He said: "By Allah! thou wast little short of bringing me to perdition!

37:56

وَلَوْلَا نِعْمَةُ رَبِّي لَكُنْتُ مِنَ الْمُحْضَرِينَ

Transliteration

Walawla niAAmatu rabbee lakuntu minaalmuhdareen

Yusuf Ali

"Had it not been for the Grace of my Lord, I should certainly have been among those brought (there)!

37:57

أَفَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَيِّتِينَ

Transliteration

Afama nahnu bimayyiteen

Yusuf Ali

"Is it (the case) that we shall not die,

37:58

إِلَّا مَوْتَتَنَا الْأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَ

Transliteration

Illa mawtatana al-oolawama nahnu bimuAAaththabeen

Yusuf Ali

"Except our first death, and that we shall not be punished?"

37:59

إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَهُوَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظِيمُ

Transliteration

Inna hatha lahuwa alfawzu alAAatheem

Yusuf Ali

Verily this is the supreme achievement!

37:60

لِمِثْلِ هَٰذَا فَلْيَعْمَلِ الْعَامِلُونَ

Transliteration

Limithli hatha falyaAAmali alAAamiloon

Yusuf Ali

For the like of this let all strive, who wish to strive.

37:61

أَذَٰلِكَ خَيْرٌ نُزُلًا أَمْ شَجَرَةُ الزَّقُّومِ

Transliteration

Athalika khayrun nuzulan am shajaratuazzaqqoom

Yusuf Ali

Is that the better entertainment or the Tree of Zaqqum?

37:62

إِنَّا جَعَلْنَاهَا فِتْنَةً لِلظَّالِمِينَ

Transliteration

Inna jaAAalnahafitnatan liththalimeen

Yusuf Ali

For We have truly made it (as) a trial for the wrong-doers.

37:63

إِنَّهَا شَجَرَةٌ تَخْرُجُ فِي أَصْلِ الْجَحِيمِ

Transliteration

Innaha shajaratun takhruju fee aslialjaheem

Yusuf Ali

For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-Fire:

37:64

طَلْعُهَا كَأَنَّهُ رُءُوسُ الشَّيَاطِينِ

Transliteration

TalAAuha kaannahu ruoosu ashshayateen

Yusuf Ali

The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of devils:

37:65

فَإِنَّهُمْ لَآكِلُونَ مِنْهَا فَمَالِئُونَ مِنْهَا الْبُطُونَ

Transliteration

Fa-innahum laakiloona minhafamali-oona minha albutoon

Yusuf Ali

Truly they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith.

37:66

ثُمَّ إِنَّ لَهُمْ عَلَيْهَا لَشَوْبًا مِنْ حَمِيمٍ

Transliteration

Thumma inna lahum AAalayha lashawbanmin hameem

Yusuf Ali

Then on top of that they will be given a mixture made of boiling water.

37:67

ثُمَّ إِنَّ مَرْجِعَهُمْ لَإِلَى الْجَحِيمِ

Transliteration

Thumma inna marjiAAahum la-ila aljaheem

Yusuf Ali

Then shall their return be to the (Blazing) Fire.

37:68

إِنَّهُمْ أَلْفَوْا آبَاءَهُمْ ضَالِّينَ

Transliteration

Innahum alfaw abaahum dalleen

Yusuf Ali

Truly they found their fathers on the wrong Path;

37:69

فَهُمْ عَلَىٰ آثَارِهِمْ يُهْرَعُونَ

Transliteration

Fahum AAala atharihimyuhraAAoon

Yusuf Ali

So they (too) were rushed down on their footsteps!

37:70

وَلَقَدْ ضَلَّ قَبْلَهُمْ أَكْثَرُ الْأَوَّلِينَ

Transliteration

Walaqad dalla qablahum aktharual-awwaleen

Yusuf Ali

And truly before them, many of the ancients went astray;-

37:71

وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا فِيهِمْ مُنْذِرِينَ

Transliteration

Walaqad arsalna feehim munthireen

Yusuf Ali

But We sent aforetime, among them, (messengers) to admonish them;-

37:72

فَانْظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الْمُنْذَرِينَ

Transliteration

Fanthur kayfa kanaAAaqibatu almunthareen

Yusuf Ali

Then see what was the end of those who were admonished (but heeded not),-

37:73

إِلَّا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ الْمُخْلَصِينَ

Transliteration

Illa AAibada Allahialmukhlaseen

Yusuf Ali

Except the sincere (and devoted) Servants of Allah.

37:74

وَلَقَدْ نَادَانَا نُوحٌ فَلَنِعْمَ الْمُجِيبُونَ

Transliteration

Walaqad nadana noohunfalaniAAma almujeeboon

Yusuf Ali

(In the days of old), Noah cried to Us, and We are the best to hear prayer.

37:75

وَنَجَّيْنَاهُ وَأَهْلَهُ مِنَ الْكَرْبِ الْعَظِيمِ

Transliteration

Wanajjaynahu waahlahu mina alkarbialAAatheem

Yusuf Ali

And We delivered him and his people from the Great Calamity,

37:76

وَجَعَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُ هُمُ الْبَاقِينَ

Transliteration

WajaAAalna thurriyyatahu humualbaqeen

Yusuf Ali

And made his progeny to endure (on this earth);

37:77

وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِي الْآخِرِينَ

Transliteration

Watarakna AAalayhi fee al-akhireen

Yusuf Ali

And We left (this blessing) for him among generations to come in later times:

37:78

سَلَامٌ عَلَىٰ نُوحٍ فِي الْعَالَمِينَ

Transliteration

Salamun AAala noohinfee alAAalameen

Yusuf Ali

"Peace and salutation to Noah among the nations!"

37:79

إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ

Transliteration

Inna kathalika najzee almuhsineen

Yusuf Ali

Thus indeed do we reward those who do right.

37:80

إِنَّهُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا الْمُؤْمِنِينَ

Transliteration

Innahu min AAibadinaalmu/mineen

Yusuf Ali

For he was one of our believing Servants.

37:81

ثُمَّ أَغْرَقْنَا الْآخَرِينَ

Transliteration

Thumma aghraqna al-akhareen

Yusuf Ali

Then the rest we overwhelmed in the Flood.

37:82

۞ وَإِنَّ مِنْ شِيعَتِهِ لَإِبْرَاهِيمَ

Transliteration

Wa-inna min sheeAAatihi la-ibraheem

Yusuf Ali

Verily among those who followed his Way was Abraham.

37:83

إِذْ جَاءَ رَبَّهُ بِقَلْبٍ سَلِيمٍ

Transliteration

Ith jaa rabbahu biqalbinsaleem

Yusuf Ali

Behold! he approached his Lord with a sound heart.

37:84

إِذْ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوْمِهِ مَاذَا تَعْبُدُونَ

Transliteration

Ith qala li-abeehi waqawmihi mathataAAbudoon

Yusuf Ali

Behold! he said to his father and to his people, "What is that which ye worship?

37:85

أَئِفْكًا آلِهَةً دُونَ اللَّهِ تُرِيدُونَ

Transliteration

A-ifkan alihatan doona Allahitureedoon

Yusuf Ali

"Is it a falsehood- gods other than Allah- that ye desire?

37:86

فَمَا ظَنُّكُمْ بِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

Transliteration

Fama thannukum birabbialAAalameen

Yusuf Ali

"Then what is your idea about the Lord of the worlds?"

37:87

فَنَظَرَ نَظْرَةً فِي النُّجُومِ

Transliteration

Fanathara nathratanfee annujoom

Yusuf Ali

Then did he cast a glance at the Stars.

37:88

فَقَالَ إِنِّي سَقِيمٌ

Transliteration

Faqala innee saqeem

Yusuf Ali

And he said, "I am indeed sick (at heart)!"

37:89

فَتَوَلَّوْا عَنْهُ مُدْبِرِينَ

Transliteration

Fatawallaw AAanhu mudbireen

Yusuf Ali

So they turned away from him, and departed.

37:90

فَرَاغَ إِلَىٰ آلِهَتِهِمْ فَقَالَ أَلَا تَأْكُلُونَ

Transliteration

Faragha ila alihatihimfaqala ala ta/kuloon

Yusuf Ali

Then did he turn to their gods and said, "will ye not eat (of the offerings before you)?...

37:91

مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَنْطِقُونَ

Transliteration

Ma lakum la tantiqoon

Yusuf Ali

"What is the matter with you that ye speak not (intelligently)?"

37:92

فَرَاغَ عَلَيْهِمْ ضَرْبًا بِالْيَمِينِ

Transliteration

Faragha AAalayhim darban bilyameen

Yusuf Ali

Then did he turn upon them, striking (them) with the right hand.

37:93

فَأَقْبَلُوا إِلَيْهِ يَزِفُّونَ

Transliteration

Faaqbaloo ilayhi yaziffoon

Yusuf Ali

Then came (the worshippers) with hurried steps, and faced (him).

37:94

قَالَ أَتَعْبُدُونَ مَا تَنْحِتُونَ

Transliteration

Qala ataAAbudoona ma tanhitoon

Yusuf Ali

He said: "Worship ye that which ye have (yourselves) carved?

37:95

وَاللَّهُ خَلَقَكُمْ وَمَا تَعْمَلُونَ

Transliteration

Wallahu khalaqakum wamataAAmaloon

Yusuf Ali

"But Allah has created you and your handwork!"

37:96

قَالُوا ابْنُوا لَهُ بُنْيَانًا فَأَلْقُوهُ فِي الْجَحِيمِ

Transliteration

Qaloo ibnoo lahu bunyananfaalqoohu fee aljaheem

Yusuf Ali

They said, "Build him a furnace, and throw him into the blazing fire!"

37:97

فَأَرَادُوا بِهِ كَيْدًا فَجَعَلْنَاهُمُ الْأَسْفَلِينَ

Transliteration

Faaradoo bihi kaydan fajaAAalnahumual-asfaleen

Yusuf Ali

(This failing), they then sought a stratagem against him, but We made them the ones most humiliated!

37:98

وَقَالَ إِنِّي ذَاهِبٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّي سَيَهْدِينِ

Transliteration

Waqala innee thahibun ilarabbee sayahdeen

Yusuf Ali

He said: "I will go to my Lord! He will surely guide me!

37:99

رَبِّ هَبْ لِي مِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ

Transliteration

Rabbi hablee mina assaliheen

Yusuf Ali

"O my Lord! Grant me a righteous (son)!"

37:100

فَبَشَّرْنَاهُ بِغُلَامٍ حَلِيمٍ

Transliteration

Fabashsharnahu bighulamin haleem

Yusuf Ali

So We gave him the good news of a boy ready to suffer and forbear.

37:101

فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ مَعَهُ السَّعْيَ قَالَ يَا بُنَيَّ إِنِّي أَرَىٰ فِي الْمَنَامِ أَنِّي أَذْبَحُكَ فَانْظُرْ مَاذَا تَرَىٰ ۚ قَالَ يَا أَبَتِ افْعَلْ مَا تُؤْمَرُ ۖ سَتَجِدُنِي إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ مِنَ الصَّابِرِينَ

Transliteration

Falamma balagha maAAahu assaAAyaqala ya bunayya innee ara fee almanamiannee athbahuka fanthur mathatara qala ya abati ifAAal ma tu/marusatajidunee in shaa Allahu mina assabireen

Yusuf Ali

Then, when (the son) reached (the age of) (serious) work with him, he said: "O my son! I see in vision that I offer thee in sacrifice: Now see what is thy view!" (The son) said: "O my father! Do as thou art commanded: thou will find me, if Allah so wills one practising Patience and Constancy!"

37:102

فَلَمَّا أَسْلَمَا وَتَلَّهُ لِلْجَبِينِ

Transliteration

Falamma aslama watallahuliljabeen

Yusuf Ali

So when they had both submitted their wills (to Allah), and he had laid him prostrate on his forehead (for sacrifice),

37:103

وَنَادَيْنَاهُ أَنْ يَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ

Transliteration

Wanadaynahu an ya ibraheem

Yusuf Ali

We called out to him "O Abraham!

37:104

قَدْ صَدَّقْتَ الرُّؤْيَا ۚ إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ

Transliteration

Qad saddaqta arru/yainna kathalika najzee almuhsineen

Yusuf Ali

"Thou hast already fulfilled the vision!" - thus indeed do We reward those who do right.

37:105

إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَهُوَ الْبَلَاءُ الْمُبِينُ

Transliteration

Inna hatha lahuwa albalaoalmubeen

Yusuf Ali

For this was obviously a trial-

37:106

وَفَدَيْنَاهُ بِذِبْحٍ عَظِيمٍ

Transliteration

Wafadaynahu bithibhinAAatheem

Yusuf Ali

And We ransomed him with a momentous sacrifice:

37:107

وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِي الْآخِرِينَ

Transliteration

Watarakna AAalayhi fee al-akhireen

Yusuf Ali

And We left (this blessing) for him among generations (to come) in later times:

37:108

سَلَامٌ عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ

Transliteration

Salamun AAala ibraheem

Yusuf Ali

"Peace and salutation to Abraham!"

37:109

كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ

Transliteration

Kathalika najzee almuhsineen

Yusuf Ali

Thus indeed do We reward those who do right.

37:110

إِنَّهُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا الْمُؤْمِنِينَ

Transliteration

Innahu min AAibadinaalmu/mineen

Yusuf Ali

For he was one of our believing Servants.

37:111

وَبَشَّرْنَاهُ بِإِسْحَاقَ نَبِيًّا مِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ

Transliteration

Wabashsharnahu bi-ishaqanabiyyan mina assaliheen

Yusuf Ali

And We gave him the good news of Isaac - a prophet,- one of the Righteous.

37:112

وَبَارَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَىٰ إِسْحَاقَ ۚ وَمِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِهِمَا مُحْسِنٌ وَظَالِمٌ لِنَفْسِهِ مُبِينٌ

Transliteration

Wabarakna AAalayhi waAAalaishaqa wamin thurriyyatihima muhsinunwathalimun linafsihi mubeen

Yusuf Ali

We blessed him and Isaac: but of their progeny are (some) that do right, and (some) that obviously do wrong, to their own souls.

37:113

وَلَقَدْ مَنَنَّا عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَارُونَ

Transliteration

Walaqad mananna AAala moosawaharoon

Yusuf Ali

Again (of old) We bestowed Our favour on Moses and Aaron,

37:114

وَنَجَّيْنَاهُمَا وَقَوْمَهُمَا مِنَ الْكَرْبِ الْعَظِيمِ

Transliteration

Wanajjaynahuma waqawmahumamina alkarbi alAAatheem

Yusuf Ali

And We delivered them and their people from (their) Great Calamity;

37:115

وَنَصَرْنَاهُمْ فَكَانُوا هُمُ الْغَالِبِينَ

Transliteration

Wanasarnahum fakanoohumu alghalibeen

Yusuf Ali

And We helped them, so they overcame (their troubles);

37:116

وَآتَيْنَاهُمَا الْكِتَابَ الْمُسْتَبِينَ

Transliteration

Waataynahuma alkitabaalmustabeen

Yusuf Ali

And We gave them the Book which helps to make things clear;

37:117

وَهَدَيْنَاهُمَا الصِّرَاطَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ

Transliteration

Wahadaynahuma assirataalmustaqeem

Yusuf Ali

And We guided them to the Straight Way.

37:118

وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِمَا فِي الْآخِرِينَ

Transliteration

Watarakna AAalayhima fee al-akhireen

Yusuf Ali

And We left (this blessing) for them among generations (to come) in later times:

37:119

سَلَامٌ عَلَىٰ مُوسَىٰ وَهَارُونَ

Transliteration

Salamun AAala moosawaharoon

Yusuf Ali

"Peace and salutation to Moses and Aaron!"

37:120

إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ

Transliteration

Inna kathalika najzee almuhsineen

Yusuf Ali

Thus indeed do We reward those who do right.

37:121

إِنَّهُمَا مِنْ عِبَادِنَا الْمُؤْمِنِينَ

Transliteration

Innahuma min AAibadinaalmu/mineen

Yusuf Ali

For they were two of our believing Servants.

37:122

وَإِنَّ إِلْيَاسَ لَمِنَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ

Transliteration

Wa-inna ilyasa lamina almursaleen

Yusuf Ali

So also was Elias among those sent (by Us).

37:123

إِذْ قَالَ لِقَوْمِهِ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ

Transliteration

Ith qala liqawmihi alatattaqoon

Yusuf Ali

Behold, he said to his people, "Will ye not fear (Allah)?

37:124

أَتَدْعُونَ بَعْلًا وَتَذَرُونَ أَحْسَنَ الْخَالِقِينَ

Transliteration

AtadAAoona baAAlan watatharoona ahsanaalkhaliqeen

Yusuf Ali

"Will ye call upon Baal and forsake the Best of Creators,-

37:125

اللَّهَ رَبَّكُمْ وَرَبَّ آبَائِكُمُ الْأَوَّلِينَ

Transliteration

Allaha rabbakum warabba aba-ikumual-awwaleen

Yusuf Ali

"Allah, your Lord and Cherisher and the Lord and Cherisher of your fathers of old?"

37:126

فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَإِنَّهُمْ لَمُحْضَرُونَ

Transliteration

Fakaththaboohu fa-innahum lamuhdaroon

Yusuf Ali

But they rejected him, and they will certainly be called up (for punishment),-

37:127

إِلَّا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ الْمُخْلَصِينَ

Transliteration

Illa AAibada Allahialmukhlaseen

Yusuf Ali

Except the sincere and devoted Servants of Allah (among them).

37:128

وَتَرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ فِي الْآخِرِينَ

Transliteration

Watarakna AAalayhi fee al-akhireen

Yusuf Ali

And We left (this blessing) for him among generations (to come) in later times:

37:129

سَلَامٌ عَلَىٰ إِلْ يَاسِينَ

Transliteration

Salamun AAala il yaseen

Yusuf Ali

"Peace and salutation to such as Elias!"

37:130

إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ

Transliteration

Inna kathalika najzee almuhsineen

Yusuf Ali

Thus indeed do We reward those who do right.

37:131

إِنَّهُ مِنْ عِبَادِنَا الْمُؤْمِنِينَ

Transliteration

Innahu min AAibadinaalmu/mineen

Yusuf Ali

For he was one of our believing Servants.

37:132

وَإِنَّ لُوطًا لَمِنَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ

Transliteration

Wa-inna lootan lamina almursaleen

Yusuf Ali

So also was Lut among those sent (by Us).

37:133

إِذْ نَجَّيْنَاهُ وَأَهْلَهُ أَجْمَعِينَ

Transliteration

Ith najjaynahu waahlahuajmaAAeen

Yusuf Ali

Behold, We delivered him and his adherents, all

37:134

إِلَّا عَجُوزًا فِي الْغَابِرِينَ

Transliteration

Illa AAajoozan fee alghabireen

Yusuf Ali

Except an old woman who was among those who lagged behind:

37:135

ثُمَّ دَمَّرْنَا الْآخَرِينَ

Transliteration

Thumma dammarna al-akhareen

Yusuf Ali

Then We destroyed the rest.

37:136

وَإِنَّكُمْ لَتَمُرُّونَ عَلَيْهِمْ مُصْبِحِينَ

Transliteration

Wa-innakum latamurroona AAalayhim musbiheen

Yusuf Ali

Verily, ye pass by their (sites), by day-

37:137

وَبِاللَّيْلِ ۗ أَفَلَا تَعْقِلُونَ

Transliteration

Wabillayli afala taAAqiloon

Yusuf Ali

And by night: will ye not understand?

37:138

وَإِنَّ يُونُسَ لَمِنَ الْمُرْسَلِينَ

Transliteration

Wa-inna yoonusa lamina almursaleen

Yusuf Ali

So also was Jonah among those sent (by Us).

37:139

إِذْ أَبَقَ إِلَى الْفُلْكِ الْمَشْحُونِ

Transliteration

Ith abaqa ila alfulki almashhoon

Yusuf Ali

When he ran away (like a slave from captivity) to the ship (fully) laden,

37:140

فَسَاهَمَ فَكَانَ مِنَ الْمُدْحَضِينَ

Transliteration

Fasahama fakana mina almudhadeen

Yusuf Ali

He (agreed to) cast lots, and he was condemned:

37:141

فَالْتَقَمَهُ الْحُوتُ وَهُوَ مُلِيمٌ

Transliteration

Faltaqamahu alhootu wahuwamuleem

Yusuf Ali

Then the big Fish did swallow him, and he had done acts worthy of blame.

37:142

فَلَوْلَا أَنَّهُ كَانَ مِنَ الْمُسَبِّحِينَ

Transliteration

Falawla annahu kana minaalmusabbiheen

Yusuf Ali

Had it not been that he (repented and) glorified Allah,

37:143

لَلَبِثَ فِي بَطْنِهِ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ

Transliteration

Lalabitha fee batnihi ilayawmi yubAAathoon

Yusuf Ali

He would certainly have remained inside the Fish till the Day of Resurrection.

37:144

۞ فَنَبَذْنَاهُ بِالْعَرَاءِ وَهُوَ سَقِيمٌ

Transliteration

Fanabathnahu bilAAara-iwahuwa saqeem

Yusuf Ali

But We cast him forth on the naked shore in a state of sickness,

37:145

وَأَنْبَتْنَا عَلَيْهِ شَجَرَةً مِنْ يَقْطِينٍ

Transliteration

Waanbatna AAalayhi shajaratan minyaqteen

Yusuf Ali

And We caused to grow, over him, a spreading plant of the gourd kind.

37:146

وَأَرْسَلْنَاهُ إِلَىٰ مِائَةِ أَلْفٍ أَوْ يَزِيدُونَ

Transliteration

Waarsalnahu ila mi-ati alfinaw yazeedoon

Yusuf Ali

And We sent him (on a mission) to a hundred thousand (men) or more.

37:147

فَآمَنُوا فَمَتَّعْنَاهُمْ إِلَىٰ حِينٍ

Transliteration

Faamanoo famattaAAnahum ilaheen

Yusuf Ali

And they believed; so We permitted them to enjoy (their life) for a while.

37:148

فَاسْتَفْتِهِمْ أَلِرَبِّكَ الْبَنَاتُ وَلَهُمُ الْبَنُونَ

Transliteration

Fastaftihim alirabbika albanatuwalahumu albanoon

Yusuf Ali

Now ask them their opinion: Is it that thy Lord has (only) daughters, and they have sons?-

37:149

أَمْ خَلَقْنَا الْمَلَائِكَةَ إِنَاثًا وَهُمْ شَاهِدُونَ

Transliteration

Am khalaqna almala-ikata inathanwahum shahidoon

Yusuf Ali

Or that We created the angels female, and they are witnesses (thereto)?

37:150

أَلَا إِنَّهُمْ مِنْ إِفْكِهِمْ لَيَقُولُونَ

Transliteration

Ala innahum min ifkihim layaqooloon

Yusuf Ali

Is it not that they say, from their own invention,

37:151

وَلَدَ اللَّهُ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَكَاذِبُونَ

Transliteration

Walada Allahu wa-innahum lakathiboon

Yusuf Ali

"Allah has begotten children"? but they are liars!

37:152

أَصْطَفَى الْبَنَاتِ عَلَى الْبَنِينَ

Transliteration

Astafa albanati AAalaalbaneen

Yusuf Ali

Did He (then) choose daughters rather than sons?

37:153

مَا لَكُمْ كَيْفَ تَحْكُمُونَ

Transliteration

Ma lakum kayfa tahkumoon

Yusuf Ali

What is the matter with you? How judge ye?

37:154

أَفَلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ

Transliteration

Afala tathakkaroon

Yusuf Ali

Will ye not then receive admonition?

37:155

أَمْ لَكُمْ سُلْطَانٌ مُبِينٌ

Transliteration

Am lakum sultanun mubeen

Yusuf Ali

Or have ye an authority manifest?

37:156

فَأْتُوا بِكِتَابِكُمْ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ

Transliteration

Fa/too bikitabikum in kuntum sadiqeen

Yusuf Ali

Then bring ye your Book (of authority) if ye be truthful!

37:157

وَجَعَلُوا بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْجِنَّةِ نَسَبًا ۚ وَلَقَدْ عَلِمَتِ الْجِنَّةُ إِنَّهُمْ لَمُحْضَرُونَ

Transliteration

WajaAAaloo baynahu wabayna aljinnatinasaban walaqad AAalimati aljinnatu innahum lamuhdaroon

Yusuf Ali

And they have invented a blood-relationship between Him and the Jinns: but the Jinns know (quite well) that they have indeed to appear (before his Judgment-Seat)!

37:158

سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ

Transliteration

Subhana Allahi AAammayasifoon

Yusuf Ali

Glory to Allah! (He is free) from the things they ascribe (to Him)!

37:159

إِلَّا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ الْمُخْلَصِينَ

Transliteration

Illa AAibada Allahialmukhlaseen

Yusuf Ali

Not (so do) the Servants of Allah, sincere and devoted.

37:160

فَإِنَّكُمْ وَمَا تَعْبُدُونَ

Transliteration

Fa-innakum wama taAAbudoon

Yusuf Ali

For, verily, neither ye nor those ye worship-

37:161

مَا أَنْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ بِفَاتِنِينَ

Transliteration

Ma antum AAalayhi bifatineen

Yusuf Ali

Can lead (any) into temptation concerning Allah,

37:162

إِلَّا مَنْ هُوَ صَالِ الْجَحِيمِ

Transliteration

Illa man huwa sali aljaheem

Yusuf Ali

Except such as are (themselves) going to the blazing Fire!

37:163

وَمَا مِنَّا إِلَّا لَهُ مَقَامٌ مَعْلُومٌ

Transliteration

Wama minna illa lahumaqamun maAAloom

Yusuf Ali

(Those ranged in ranks say): "Not one of us but has a place appointed;

37:164

وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ الصَّافُّونَ

Transliteration

Wa-inna lanahnu assaffoon

Yusuf Ali

"And we are verily ranged in ranks (for service);

37:165

وَإِنَّا لَنَحْنُ الْمُسَبِّحُونَ

Transliteration

Wa-inna lanahnu almusabbihoon

Yusuf Ali

"And we are verily those who declare (Allah's) glory!"

37:166

وَإِنْ كَانُوا لَيَقُولُونَ

Transliteration

Wa-in kanoo layaqooloon

Yusuf Ali

And there were those who said,

37:167

لَوْ أَنَّ عِنْدَنَا ذِكْرًا مِنَ الْأَوَّلِينَ

Transliteration

Law anna AAindana thikranmina al-awwaleen

Yusuf Ali

"If only we had had before us a Message from those of old,

37:168

لَكُنَّا عِبَادَ اللَّهِ الْمُخْلَصِينَ

Transliteration

Lakunna AAibada Allahialmukhlaseen

Yusuf Ali

"We should certainly have been Servants of Allah, sincere (and devoted)!"

37:169

فَكَفَرُوا بِهِ ۖ فَسَوْفَ يَعْلَمُونَ

Transliteration

Fakafaroo bihi fasawfa yaAAlamoon

Yusuf Ali

But (now that the Qur'an has come), they reject it: But soon will they know!

37:170

وَلَقَدْ سَبَقَتْ كَلِمَتُنَا لِعِبَادِنَا الْمُرْسَلِينَ

Transliteration

Walaqad sabaqat kalimatuna liAAibadinaalmursaleen

Yusuf Ali

Already has Our Word been passed before (this) to our Servants sent (by Us),

37:171

إِنَّهُمْ لَهُمُ الْمَنْصُورُونَ

Transliteration

Innahum lahumu almansooroon

Yusuf Ali

That they would certainly be assisted,

37:172

وَإِنَّ جُنْدَنَا لَهُمُ الْغَالِبُونَ

Transliteration

Wa-inna jundana lahumu alghaliboon

Yusuf Ali

And that Our forces,- they surely must conquer.

37:173

فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ

Transliteration

Fatawalla AAanhum hatta heen

Yusuf Ali

So turn thou away from them for a little while,

37:174

وَأَبْصِرْهُمْ فَسَوْفَ يُبْصِرُونَ

Transliteration

Waabsirhum fasawfa yubsiroon

Yusuf Ali

And watch them (how they fare), and they soon shall see (how thou farest)!

37:175

أَفَبِعَذَابِنَا يَسْتَعْجِلُونَ

Transliteration

AfabiAAathabina yastaAAjiloon

Yusuf Ali

Do they wish (indeed) to hurry on our Punishment?

37:176

فَإِذَا نَزَلَ بِسَاحَتِهِمْ فَسَاءَ صَبَاحُ الْمُنْذَرِينَ

Transliteration

Fa-itha nazala bisahatihimfasaa sabahu almunthareen

Yusuf Ali

But when it descends into the open space before them, evil will be the morning for those who were warned (and heeded not)!

37:177

وَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ

Transliteration

Watawalla AAanhum hatta heen

Yusuf Ali

So turn thou away from them for a little while,

37:178

وَأَبْصِرْ فَسَوْفَ يُبْصِرُونَ

Transliteration

Waabsir fasawfa yubsiroon

Yusuf Ali

And watch (how they fare) and they soon shall see (how thou farest)!

37:179

سُبْحَانَ رَبِّكَ رَبِّ الْعِزَّةِ عَمَّا يَصِفُونَ

Transliteration

Subhana rabbika rabbi alAAizzatiAAamma yasifoon

Yusuf Ali

Glory to thy Lord, the Lord of Honour and Power! (He is free) from what they ascribe (to Him)!

37:180

وَسَلَامٌ عَلَى الْمُرْسَلِينَ

Transliteration

Wasalamun AAala almursaleen

Yusuf Ali

And Peace on the messengers!

37:181

وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

Transliteration

Walhamdu lillahirabbi alAAalameen

Yusuf Ali

And Praise to Allah, the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds.

37:182

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Transliteration

Bismi Allahi arrahmani arraheem

Yusuf Ali

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

ص ۚ وَالْقُرْآنِ ذِي الذِّكْرِ

Transliteration

Sad walqur-ani theeaththikr

Yusuf Ali

Sad: By the Qur'an, Full of Admonition: (This is the Truth).

38:1

بَلِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا فِي عِزَّةٍ وَشِقَاقٍ

Transliteration

Bali allatheena kafaroo fee AAizzatinwashiqaq

Yusuf Ali

But the Unbelievers (are steeped) in self-glory and Separatism.

38:2

كَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ مِنْ قَرْنٍ فَنَادَوْا وَلَاتَ حِينَ مَنَاصٍ

Transliteration

Kam ahlakna min qablihim min qarninfanadaw walata heena manas

Yusuf Ali

How many generations before them did We destroy? In the end they cried (for mercy)- when there was no longer time for being saved!

38:3

وَعَجِبُوا أَنْ جَاءَهُمْ مُنْذِرٌ مِنْهُمْ ۖ وَقَالَ الْكَافِرُونَ هَٰذَا سَاحِرٌ كَذَّابٌ

Transliteration

WaAAajiboo an jaahum munthirunminhum waqala alkafiroona hatha sahirunkaththab

Yusuf Ali

So they wonder that a Warner has come to them from among themselves! and the Unbelievers say, "This is a sorcerer telling lies!

38:4

أَجَعَلَ الْآلِهَةَ إِلَٰهًا وَاحِدًا ۖ إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَشَيْءٌ عُجَابٌ

Transliteration

AjaAAala al-alihata ilahan wahidaninna hatha lashay-on AAujab

Yusuf Ali

"Has he made the gods (all) into one Allah? Truly this is a wonderful thing!"

38:5

وَانْطَلَقَ الْمَلَأُ مِنْهُمْ أَنِ امْشُوا وَاصْبِرُوا عَلَىٰ آلِهَتِكُمْ ۖ إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَشَيْءٌ يُرَادُ

Transliteration

Wantalaqa almalao minhum aniimshoo wasbiroo AAala alihatikuminna hatha lashay-on yurad

Yusuf Ali

And the leader among them go away (impatiently), (saying), "Walk ye away, and remain constant to your gods! For this is truly a thing designed (against you)!

38:6

مَا سَمِعْنَا بِهَٰذَا فِي الْمِلَّةِ الْآخِرَةِ إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا اخْتِلَاقٌ

Transliteration

Ma samiAAna bihatha feealmillati al-akhirati in hatha illa ikhtilaq

Yusuf Ali

"We never heard (the like) of this among the people of these latter days: this is nothing but a made-up tale!"

38:7

أَأُنْزِلَ عَلَيْهِ الذِّكْرُ مِنْ بَيْنِنَا ۚ بَلْ هُمْ فِي شَكٍّ مِنْ ذِكْرِي ۖ بَلْ لَمَّا يَذُوقُوا عَذَابِ

Transliteration

Aonzila AAalayhi aththikru minbaynina bal hum fee shakkin min thikree bal lammayathooqoo AAathab

Yusuf Ali

"What! has the Message been sent to him - (Of all persons) among us?"...but they are in doubt concerning My (Own) Message! Nay, they have not yet tasted My Punishment!

38:8

أَمْ عِنْدَهُمْ خَزَائِنُ رَحْمَةِ رَبِّكَ الْعَزِيزِ الْوَهَّابِ

Transliteration

Am AAindahum khaza-inu rahmatirabbika alAAazeezi alwahhab

Yusuf Ali

Or have they the treasures of the mercy of thy Lord,- the Exalted in Power, the Grantor of Bounties without measure?

38:9

أَمْ لَهُمْ مُلْكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ۖ فَلْيَرْتَقُوا فِي الْأَسْبَابِ

Transliteration

Am lahum mulku assamawatiwal-ardi wama baynahuma falyartaqoofee al-asbab

Yusuf Ali

Or have they the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all between? If so, let them mount up with the ropes and means (to reach that end)!

38:10

جُنْدٌ مَا هُنَالِكَ مَهْزُومٌ مِنَ الْأَحْزَابِ

Transliteration

Jundun ma hunalika mahzoomunmina al-ahzab

Yusuf Ali

But there - will be put to flight even a host of confederates.

38:11

كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ وَعَادٌ وَفِرْعَوْنُ ذُو الْأَوْتَادِ

Transliteration

Kaththabat qablahum qawmu noohinwaAAadun wafirAAawnu thoo al-awtad

Yusuf Ali

Before them (were many who) rejected messengers,- the people of Noah, and 'Ad, and Pharaoh, the Lord of Stakes,

38:12

وَثَمُودُ وَقَوْمُ لُوطٍ وَأَصْحَابُ الْأَيْكَةِ ۚ أُولَٰئِكَ الْأَحْزَابُ

Transliteration

Wathamoodu waqawmu lootin waas-habual-aykati ola-ika al-ahzab

Yusuf Ali

And Thamud, and the people of Lut, and the Companions of the Wood; - such were the Confederates.

38:13

إِنْ كُلٌّ إِلَّا كَذَّبَ الرُّسُلَ فَحَقَّ عِقَابِ

Transliteration

In kullun illa kaththaba arrusulafahaqqa AAiqab

Yusuf Ali

Not one (of them) but rejected the messengers, but My punishment came justly and inevitably (on them).

38:14

وَمَا يَنْظُرُ هَٰؤُلَاءِ إِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَاحِدَةً مَا لَهَا مِنْ فَوَاقٍ

Transliteration

Wama yanthuru haola-iilla sayhatan wahidatan ma lahamin fawaq

Yusuf Ali

These (today) only wait for a single mighty Blast, which (when it comes) will brook no delay.

38:15

وَقَالُوا رَبَّنَا عَجِّلْ لَنَا قِطَّنَا قَبْلَ يَوْمِ الْحِسَابِ

Transliteration

Waqaloo rabbana AAajjil lanaqittana qabla yawmi alhisab

Yusuf Ali

They say: "Our Lord! hasten to us our sentence (even) before the Day of Account!"

38:16

اصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ وَاذْكُرْ عَبْدَنَا دَاوُودَ ذَا الْأَيْدِ ۖ إِنَّهُ أَوَّابٌ

Transliteration

Isbir AAala mayaqooloona wathkur AAabdana dawooda thaal-aydi innahu awwab

Yusuf Ali

Have patience at what they say, and remember our servant David, the man of strength: for he ever turned (to Allah).

38:17

إِنَّا سَخَّرْنَا الْجِبَالَ مَعَهُ يُسَبِّحْنَ بِالْعَشِيِّ وَالْإِشْرَاقِ

Transliteration

Inna sakhkharna aljibalamaAAahu yusabbihna bilAAashiyyi wal-ishraq

Yusuf Ali

It was We that made the hills declare, in unison with him, Our Praises, at eventide and at break of day,

38:18

وَالطَّيْرَ مَحْشُورَةً ۖ كُلٌّ لَهُ أَوَّابٌ

Transliteration

Wattayra mahshooratankullun lahu awwab

Yusuf Ali

And the birds gathered (in assemblies): all with him did turn (to Allah).

38:19

وَشَدَدْنَا مُلْكَهُ وَآتَيْنَاهُ الْحِكْمَةَ وَفَصْلَ الْخِطَابِ

Transliteration

Washadadna mulkahu waataynahualhikmata wafasla alkhitab

Yusuf Ali

We strengthened his kingdom, and gave him wisdom and sound judgment in speech and decision.

38:20

۞ وَهَلْ أَتَاكَ نَبَأُ الْخَصْمِ إِذْ تَسَوَّرُوا الْمِحْرَابَ

Transliteration

Wahal ataka nabao alkhasmi ithtasawwaroo almihrab

Yusuf Ali

Has the Story of the Disputants reached thee? Behold, they climbed over the wall of the private chamber;

38:21

إِذْ دَخَلُوا عَلَىٰ دَاوُودَ فَفَزِعَ مِنْهُمْ ۖ قَالُوا لَا تَخَفْ ۖ خَصْمَانِ بَغَىٰ بَعْضُنَا عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ فَاحْكُمْ بَيْنَنَا بِالْحَقِّ وَلَا تُشْطِطْ وَاهْدِنَا إِلَىٰ سَوَاءِ الصِّرَاطِ

Transliteration

Ith dakhaloo AAala dawoodafafaziAAa minhum qaloo la takhaf khasmanibagha baAAduna AAala baAAdinfahkum baynana bilhaqqi walatushtit wahdina ila sawa-iassirat

Yusuf Ali

When they entered the presence of David, and he was terrified of them, they said: "Fear not: we are two disputants, one of whom has wronged the other: Decide now between us with truth, and treat us not with injustice, but guide us to the even Path..

38:22

إِنَّ هَٰذَا أَخِي لَهُ تِسْعٌ وَتِسْعُونَ نَعْجَةً وَلِيَ نَعْجَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ فَقَالَ أَكْفِلْنِيهَا وَعَزَّنِي فِي الْخِطَابِ

Transliteration

Inna hatha akhee lahu tisAAunwatisAAoona naAAjatan waliya naAAjatun wahidatun faqalaakfilneeha waAAazzanee fee alkhitab

Yusuf Ali

"This man is my brother: He has nine and ninety ewes, and I have (but) one: Yet he says, 'commit her to my care,' and is (moreover) harsh to me in speech."

38:23

قَالَ لَقَدْ ظَلَمَكَ بِسُؤَالِ نَعْجَتِكَ إِلَىٰ نِعَاجِهِ ۖ وَإِنَّ كَثِيرًا مِنَ الْخُلَطَاءِ لَيَبْغِي بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ إِلَّا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ وَقَلِيلٌ مَا هُمْ ۗ وَظَنَّ دَاوُودُ أَنَّمَا فَتَنَّاهُ فَاسْتَغْفَرَ رَبَّهُ وَخَرَّ رَاكِعًا وَأَنَابَ

Transliteration

Qala laqad thalamakabisu-ali naAAjatika ila niAAajihi wa-innakatheeran mina alkhulata-i layabghee baAAduhum AAalabaAAdin illa allatheena amanoowaAAamiloo assalihati waqaleelun mahum wathanna dawoodu annama fatannahufastaghfara rabbahu wakharra rakiAAan waanab

Yusuf Ali

(David) said: "He has undoubtedly wronged thee in demanding thy (single) ewe to be added to his (flock of) ewes: truly many are the partners (in business) who wrong each other: Not so do those who believe and work deeds of righteousness, and how few are they?"...and David gathered that We had tried him: he asked forgiveness of his Lord, fell down, bowing (in prostration), and turned (to Allah in repentance).

38:24

فَغَفَرْنَا لَهُ ذَٰلِكَ ۖ وَإِنَّ لَهُ عِنْدَنَا لَزُلْفَىٰ وَحُسْنَ مَآبٍ

Transliteration

Faghafarna lahu thalikawa-inna lahu AAindana lazulfa wahusna maab

Yusuf Ali

So We forgave him this (lapse): he enjoyed, indeed, a Near Approach to Us, and a beautiful place of (Final) Return.

38:25

يَا دَاوُودُ إِنَّا جَعَلْنَاكَ خَلِيفَةً فِي الْأَرْضِ فَاحْكُمْ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ بِالْحَقِّ وَلَا تَتَّبِعِ الْهَوَىٰ فَيُضِلَّكَ عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَضِلُّونَ عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ لَهُمْ عَذَابٌ شَدِيدٌ بِمَا نَسُوا يَوْمَ الْحِسَابِ

Transliteration

Ya dawoodu inna jaAAalnakakhaleefatan fee al-ardi fahkum bayna annasibilhaqqi wala tattabiAAi alhawa fayudillakaAAan sabeeli Allahi inna allatheena yadilloonaAAan sabeeli Allahi lahum AAathabun shadeedun bimanasoo yawma alhisab

Yusuf Ali

O David! We did indeed make thee a vicegerent on earth: so judge thou between men in truth (and justice): Nor follow thou the lusts (of thy heart), for they will mislead thee from the Path of Allah: for those who wander astray from the Path of Allah, is a Penalty Grievous, for that they forget the Day of Account.

38:26

وَمَا خَلَقْنَا السَّمَاءَ وَالْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا بَاطِلًا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ ظَنُّ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا ۚ فَوَيْلٌ لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنَ النَّارِ

Transliteration

Wama khalaqna assamaawal-arda wama baynahuma batilanthalika thannu allatheena kafaroofawaylun lillatheena kafaroo mina annar

Yusuf Ali

Not without purpose did We create heaven and earth and all between! that were the thought of Unbelievers! but woe to the Unbelievers because of the Fire (of Hell)!

38:27

أَمْ نَجْعَلُ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ كَالْمُفْسِدِينَ فِي الْأَرْضِ أَمْ نَجْعَلُ الْمُتَّقِينَ كَالْفُجَّارِ

Transliteration

Am najAAalu allatheena amanoowaAAamiloo assalihati kalmufsideenafee al-ardi am najAAalu almuttaqeena kalfujjar

Yusuf Ali

Shall We treat those who believe and work deeds of righteousness, the same as those who do mischief on earth? Shall We treat those who guard against evil, the same as those who turn aside from the right?

38:28

كِتَابٌ أَنْزَلْنَاهُ إِلَيْكَ مُبَارَكٌ لِيَدَّبَّرُوا آيَاتِهِ وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ أُولُو الْأَلْبَابِ

Transliteration

Kitabun anzalnahu ilayka mubarakunliyaddabbaroo ayatihi waliyatathakkara olooal-albab

Yusuf Ali

(Here is) a Book which We have sent down unto thee, full of blessings, that they may mediate on its Signs, and that men of understanding may receive admonition.

38:29

وَوَهَبْنَا لِدَاوُودَ سُلَيْمَانَ ۚ نِعْمَ الْعَبْدُ ۖ إِنَّهُ أَوَّابٌ

Transliteration

Wawahabna lidawooda sulaymananiAAma alAAabdu innahu awwab

Yusuf Ali

To David We gave Solomon (for a son),- How excellent in Our service! Ever did he turn (to Us)!

38:30

إِذْ عُرِضَ عَلَيْهِ بِالْعَشِيِّ الصَّافِنَاتُ الْجِيَادُ

Transliteration

Ith AAurida AAalayhi bilAAashiyyiassafinatu aljiyad

Yusuf Ali

Behold, there were brought before him, at eventide coursers of the highest breeding, and swift of foot;

38:31

فَقَالَ إِنِّي أَحْبَبْتُ حُبَّ الْخَيْرِ عَنْ ذِكْرِ رَبِّي حَتَّىٰ تَوَارَتْ بِالْحِجَابِ

Transliteration

Faqala innee ahbabtu hubbaalkhayri AAan thikri rabbee hatta tawaratbilhijab

Yusuf Ali

And he said, "Truly do I love the love of good, with a view to the glory of my Lord,"- until (the sun) was hidden in the veil (of night):

38:32

رُدُّوهَا عَلَيَّ ۖ فَطَفِقَ مَسْحًا بِالسُّوقِ وَالْأَعْنَاقِ

Transliteration

Ruddooha AAalayya fatafiqa mashanbissooqi wal-aAAnaq

Yusuf Ali

"Bring them back to me." then began he to pass his hand over (their) legs and their necks.

38:33

وَلَقَدْ فَتَنَّا سُلَيْمَانَ وَأَلْقَيْنَا عَلَىٰ كُرْسِيِّهِ جَسَدًا ثُمَّ أَنَابَ

Transliteration

Walaqad fatanna sulaymanawaalqayna AAala kursiyyihi jasadan thumma anab

Yusuf Ali

And We did try Solomon: We placed on his throne a body (without life); but he did turn (to Us in true devotion):

38:34

قَالَ رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَهَبْ لِي مُلْكًا لَا يَنْبَغِي لِأَحَدٍ مِنْ بَعْدِي ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْوَهَّابُ

Transliteration

Qala rabbi ighfir lee wahab leemulkan la yanbaghee li-ahadin min baAAdee innakaanta alwahhab

Yusuf Ali

He said, "O my Lord! Forgive me, and grant me a kingdom which, (it may be), suits not another after me: for Thou art the Grantor of Bounties (without measure).

38:35

فَسَخَّرْنَا لَهُ الرِّيحَ تَجْرِي بِأَمْرِهِ رُخَاءً حَيْثُ أَصَابَ

Transliteration

Fasakhkharna lahu arreehatajree bi-amrihi rukhaan haythu asab

Yusuf Ali

Then We subjected the wind to his power, to flow gently to his order, Whithersoever he willed,-

38:36

وَالشَّيَاطِينَ كُلَّ بَنَّاءٍ وَغَوَّاصٍ

Transliteration

Washshayateena kulla banna-inwaghawwas

Yusuf Ali

As also the evil ones, (including) every kind of builder and diver,-

38:37

وَآخَرِينَ مُقَرَّنِينَ فِي الْأَصْفَادِ

Transliteration

Waakhareena muqarraneena fee al-asfad

Yusuf Ali

As also others bound together in fetters.

38:38

هَٰذَا عَطَاؤُنَا فَامْنُنْ أَوْ أَمْسِكْ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ

Transliteration

Hatha AAataona famnunaw amsik bighayri hisab

Yusuf Ali

"Such are Our Bounties: whether thou bestow them (on others) or withhold them, no account will be asked."

38:39

وَإِنَّ لَهُ عِنْدَنَا لَزُلْفَىٰ وَحُسْنَ مَآبٍ

Transliteration

Wa-inna lahu AAindana lazulfawahusna maab

Yusuf Ali

And he enjoyed, indeed, a Near Approach to Us, and a beautiful Place of (Final) Return.

38:40

وَاذْكُرْ عَبْدَنَا أَيُّوبَ إِذْ نَادَىٰ رَبَّهُ أَنِّي مَسَّنِيَ الشَّيْطَانُ بِنُصْبٍ وَعَذَابٍ

Transliteration

Wathkur AAabdanaayyooba ith nada rabbahu annee massaniya ashshaytanubinusbin waAAathab

Yusuf Ali

Commemorate Our Servant Job. Behold he cried to his Lord: "The Evil One has afflicted me with distress and suffering!"

38:41

ارْكُضْ بِرِجْلِكَ ۖ هَٰذَا مُغْتَسَلٌ بَارِدٌ وَشَرَابٌ

Transliteration

Orkud birijlika hathamughtasalun baridun washarab

Yusuf Ali

(The command was given:) "Strike with thy foot: here is (water) wherein to wash, cool and refreshing, and (water) to drink."

38:42

وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُ أَهْلَهُ وَمِثْلَهُمْ مَعَهُمْ رَحْمَةً مِنَّا وَذِكْرَىٰ لِأُولِي الْأَلْبَابِ

Transliteration

Wawahabna lahu ahlahu wamithlahummaAAahum rahmatan minna wathikrali-olee al-albab

Yusuf Ali

And We gave him (back) his people, and doubled their number,- as a Grace from Ourselves, and a thing for commemoration, for all who have Understanding.

38:43

وَخُذْ بِيَدِكَ ضِغْثًا فَاضْرِبْ بِهِ وَلَا تَحْنَثْ ۗ إِنَّا وَجَدْنَاهُ صَابِرًا ۚ نِعْمَ الْعَبْدُ ۖ إِنَّهُ أَوَّابٌ

Transliteration

Wakhuth biyadika dighthan fadribbihi wala tahnath inna wajadnahu sabiranniAAma alAAabdu innahu awwab

Yusuf Ali

"And take in thy hand a little grass, and strike therewith: and break not (thy oath)." Truly We found him full of patience and constancy. How excellent in Our service! ever did he turn (to Us)!

38:44

وَاذْكُرْ عِبَادَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ أُولِي الْأَيْدِي وَالْأَبْصَارِ

Transliteration

Wathkur AAibadanaibraheema wa-ishaqa wayaAAqooba olee al-aydee wal-absar

Yusuf Ali

And commemorate Our Servants Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, possessors of Power and Vision.

38:45

إِنَّا أَخْلَصْنَاهُمْ بِخَالِصَةٍ ذِكْرَى الدَّارِ

Transliteration

Inna akhlasnahum bikhalisatinthikra addar

Yusuf Ali

Verily We did choose them for a special (purpose)- proclaiming the Message of the Hereafter.

38:46

وَإِنَّهُمْ عِنْدَنَا لَمِنَ الْمُصْطَفَيْنَ الْأَخْيَارِ

Transliteration

Wa-innahum AAindana lamina almustafaynaal-akhyar

Yusuf Ali

They were, in Our sight, truly, of the company of the Elect and the Good.

38:47

وَاذْكُرْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ وَالْيَسَعَ وَذَا الْكِفْلِ ۖ وَكُلٌّ مِنَ الْأَخْيَارِ

Transliteration

Wathkur ismaAAeelawa-ilyasaAAa watha alkifli wakullun mina al-akhyar

Yusuf Ali

And commemorate Isma'il, Elisha, and Zul-Kifl: Each of them was of the Company of the Good.

38:48

هَٰذَا ذِكْرٌ ۚ وَإِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ لَحُسْنَ مَآبٍ

Transliteration

Hatha thikrun wa-innalilmuttaqeena lahusna maab

Yusuf Ali

This is a Message (of admonition): and verily, for the righteous, is a beautiful Place of (Final) Return,-

38:49

جَنَّاتِ عَدْنٍ مُفَتَّحَةً لَهُمُ الْأَبْوَابُ

Transliteration

Jannati AAadnin mufattahatanlahumu al-abwab

Yusuf Ali

Gardens of Eternity, whose doors will (ever) be open to them;

38:50

مُتَّكِئِينَ فِيهَا يَدْعُونَ فِيهَا بِفَاكِهَةٍ كَثِيرَةٍ وَشَرَابٍ

Transliteration

Muttaki-eena feeha yadAAoona feehabifakihatin katheeratin washarab

Yusuf Ali

Therein will they recline (at ease): Therein can they call (at pleasure) for fruit in abundance, and (delicious) drink;

38:51

۞ وَعِنْدَهُمْ قَاصِرَاتُ الطَّرْفِ أَتْرَابٌ

Transliteration

WaAAindahum qasiratu attarfiatrab

Yusuf Ali

And beside them will be chaste women restraining their glances, (companions) of equal age.

38:52

هَٰذَا مَا تُوعَدُونَ لِيَوْمِ الْحِسَابِ

Transliteration

Hatha ma tooAAadoona liyawmialhisab

Yusuf Ali

Such is the Promise made, to you for the Day of Account!

38:53

إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَرِزْقُنَا مَا لَهُ مِنْ نَفَادٍ

Transliteration

Inna hatha larizquna malahu min nafad

Yusuf Ali

Truly such will be Our Bounty (to you); it will never fail;-

38:54

هَٰذَا ۚ وَإِنَّ لِلطَّاغِينَ لَشَرَّ مَآبٍ

Transliteration

Hatha wa-inna littagheenalasharra maab

Yusuf Ali

Yea, such! but - for the wrong-doers will be an evil place of (Final) Return!-

38:55

جَهَنَّمَ يَصْلَوْنَهَا فَبِئْسَ الْمِهَادُ

Transliteration

Jahannama yaslawnaha fabi/saalmihad

Yusuf Ali

Hell!- they will burn therein, - an evil bed (indeed, to lie on)!-

38:56

هَٰذَا فَلْيَذُوقُوهُ حَمِيمٌ وَغَسَّاقٌ

Transliteration

Hatha falyathooqoohu hameemunwaghassaq

Yusuf Ali

Yea, such! - then shall they taste it,- a boiling fluid, and a fluid dark, murky, intensely cold!-

38:57

وَآخَرُ مِنْ شَكْلِهِ أَزْوَاجٌ

Transliteration

Waakharu min shaklihi azwaj

Yusuf Ali

And other Penalties of a similar kind, to match them!

38:58

هَٰذَا فَوْجٌ مُقْتَحِمٌ مَعَكُمْ ۖ لَا مَرْحَبًا بِهِمْ ۚ إِنَّهُمْ صَالُو النَّارِ

Transliteration

Hatha fawjun muqtahimunmaAAakum la marhaban bihim innahum saloo annar

Yusuf Ali

Here is a troop rushing headlong with you! No welcome for them! truly, they shall burn in the Fire!

38:59

قَالُوا بَلْ أَنْتُمْ لَا مَرْحَبًا بِكُمْ ۖ أَنْتُمْ قَدَّمْتُمُوهُ لَنَا ۖ فَبِئْسَ الْقَرَارُ

Transliteration

Qaloo bal antum la marhabanbikum antum qaddamtumoohu lana fabi/sa alqarar

Yusuf Ali

(The followers shall cry to the misleaders:) "Nay, ye (too)! No welcome for you! It is ye who have brought this upon us! Now evil is (this) place to stay in!"

38:60

قَالُوا رَبَّنَا مَنْ قَدَّمَ لَنَا هَٰذَا فَزِدْهُ عَذَابًا ضِعْفًا فِي النَّارِ

Transliteration

Qaloo rabbana man qaddama lanahatha fazidhu AAathaban diAAfan fee annar

Yusuf Ali

They will say: "Our Lord! whoever brought this upon us,- Add to him a double Penalty in the Fire!"

38:61

وَقَالُوا مَا لَنَا لَا نَرَىٰ رِجَالًا كُنَّا نَعُدُّهُمْ مِنَ الْأَشْرَارِ

Transliteration

Waqaloo ma lana lanara rijalan kunna naAAudduhum mina al-ashrar

Yusuf Ali

And they will say: "What has happened to us that we see not men whom we used to number among the bad ones?

38:62

أَتَّخَذْنَاهُمْ سِخْرِيًّا أَمْ زَاغَتْ عَنْهُمُ الْأَبْصَارُ

Transliteration

Attakhathnahum sikhriyyan am zaghatAAanhumu al-absar

Yusuf Ali

"Did we treat them (as such) in ridicule, or have (our) eyes failed to perceive them?"

38:63

إِنَّ ذَٰلِكَ لَحَقٌّ تَخَاصُمُ أَهْلِ النَّارِ

Transliteration

Inna thalika lahaqqun takhasumuahli annar

Yusuf Ali

Truly that is just and fitting,- the mutual recriminations of the People of the Fire!

38:64

قُلْ إِنَّمَا أَنَا مُنْذِرٌ ۖ وَمَا مِنْ إِلَٰهٍ إِلَّا اللَّهُ الْوَاحِدُ الْقَهَّارُ

Transliteration

Qul innama ana munthirunwama min ilahin illa Allahu alwahidualqahhar

Yusuf Ali

Say: "Truly am I a Warner: no god is there but the one Allah, Supreme and Irresistible,-

38:65

رَبُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا الْعَزِيزُ الْغَفَّارُ

Transliteration

Rabbu assamawati wal-ardiwama baynahuma alAAazeezu alghaffar

Yusuf Ali

"The Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all between,- Exalted in Might, able to enforce His Will, forgiving again and again."

38:66

قُلْ هُوَ نَبَأٌ عَظِيمٌ

Transliteration

Qul huwa nabaon AAatheem

Yusuf Ali

Say: "That is a Message Supreme (above all),-

38:67

أَنْتُمْ عَنْهُ مُعْرِضُونَ

Transliteration

Antum AAanhu muAAridoon

Yusuf Ali

"From which ye do turn away!

38:68

مَا كَانَ لِيَ مِنْ عِلْمٍ بِالْمَلَإِ الْأَعْلَىٰ إِذْ يَخْتَصِمُونَ

Transliteration

Ma kana liya min AAilmin bilmala-ial-aAAla ith yakhtasimoon

Yusuf Ali

"No knowledge have I of the Chiefs on high, when they discuss (matters) among themselves.

38:69

إِنْ يُوحَىٰ إِلَيَّ إِلَّا أَنَّمَا أَنَا نَذِيرٌ مُبِينٌ

Transliteration

In yooha ilayya illa annamaana natheerun mubeen

Yusuf Ali

'Only this has been revealed to me: that I am to give warning plainly and publicly."

38:70

إِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلَائِكَةِ إِنِّي خَالِقٌ بَشَرًا مِنْ طِينٍ

Transliteration

Ith qala rabbuka lilmala-ikatiinnee khaliqun basharan min teen

Yusuf Ali

Behold, thy Lord said to the angels: "I am about to create man from clay:

38:71

فَإِذَا سَوَّيْتُهُ وَنَفَخْتُ فِيهِ مِنْ رُوحِي فَقَعُوا لَهُ سَاجِدِينَ

Transliteration

Fa-itha sawwaytuhu wanafakhtu feehimin roohee faqaAAoo lahu sajideen

Yusuf Ali

"When I have fashioned him (in due proportion) and breathed into him of My spirit, fall ye down in obeisance unto him."

38:72

فَسَجَدَ الْمَلَائِكَةُ كُلُّهُمْ أَجْمَعُونَ

Transliteration

Fasajada almala-ikatu kulluhumajmaAAoon

Yusuf Ali

So the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together:

38:73

إِلَّا إِبْلِيسَ اسْتَكْبَرَ وَكَانَ مِنَ الْكَافِرِينَ

Transliteration

Illa ibleesa istakbara wakanamina alkafireen

Yusuf Ali

Not so Iblis: he was haughty, and became one of those who reject Faith.

38:74

قَالَ يَا إِبْلِيسُ مَا مَنَعَكَ أَنْ تَسْجُدَ لِمَا خَلَقْتُ بِيَدَيَّ ۖ أَسْتَكْبَرْتَ أَمْ كُنْتَ مِنَ الْعَالِينَ

Transliteration

Qala ya ibleesu mamanaAAaka an tasjuda lima khalaqtu biyadayya astakbarta amkunta mina alAAaleen

Yusuf Ali

(Allah) said: "O Iblis! What prevents thee from prostrating thyself to one whom I have created with my hands? Art thou haughty? Or art thou one of the high (and mighty) ones?"

38:75

قَالَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْهُ ۖ خَلَقْتَنِي مِنْ نَارٍ وَخَلَقْتَهُ مِنْ طِينٍ

Transliteration

Qala ana khayrun minhukhalaqtanee min narin wakhalaqtahu min teen

Yusuf Ali

(Iblis) said: "I am better than he: thou createdst me from fire, and him thou createdst from clay."

38:76

قَالَ فَاخْرُجْ مِنْهَا فَإِنَّكَ رَجِيمٌ

Transliteration

Qala fakhruj minhafa-innaka rajeem

Yusuf Ali

(Allah) said: "Then get thee out from here: for thou art rejected, accursed.

38:77

وَإِنَّ عَلَيْكَ لَعْنَتِي إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ الدِّينِ

Transliteration

Wa-inna AAalayka laAAnatee ila yawmiaddeen

Yusuf Ali

"And My curse shall be on thee till the Day of Judgment."

38:78

قَالَ رَبِّ فَأَنْظِرْنِي إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ

Transliteration

Qala rabbi faanthirneeila yawmi yubAAathoon

Yusuf Ali

(Iblis) said: "O my Lord! Give me then respite till the Day the (dead) are raised."

38:79

قَالَ فَإِنَّكَ مِنَ الْمُنْظَرِينَ

Transliteration

Qala fa-innaka mina almunthareen

Yusuf Ali

(Allah) said: "Respite then is granted thee-

38:80

إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ الْوَقْتِ الْمَعْلُومِ

Transliteration

Ila yawmi alwaqti almaAAloom

Yusuf Ali

"Till the Day of the Time Appointed."

38:81

قَالَ فَبِعِزَّتِكَ لَأُغْوِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ

Transliteration

Qala fabiAAizzatika laoghwiyannahumajmaAAeen

Yusuf Ali

(Iblis) said: "Then, by Thy power, I will put them all in the wrong,-

38:82

إِلَّا عِبَادَكَ مِنْهُمُ الْمُخْلَصِينَ

Transliteration

Illa AAibadaka minhumualmukhlaseen

Yusuf Ali

"Except Thy Servants amongst them, sincere and purified (by Thy Grace)."

38:83

قَالَ فَالْحَقُّ وَالْحَقَّ أَقُولُ

Transliteration

Qala falhaqqu walhaqqaaqool

Yusuf Ali

(Allah) said: "Then it is just and fitting- and I say what is just and fitting-

38:84

لَأَمْلَأَنَّ جَهَنَّمَ مِنْكَ وَمِمَّنْ تَبِعَكَ مِنْهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ

Transliteration

Laamlaanna jahannama minka wamimmantabiAAaka minhum ajmaAAeen

Yusuf Ali

"That I will certainly fill Hell with thee and those that follow thee,- every one."

38:85

قُلْ مَا أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ وَمَا أَنَا مِنَ الْمُتَكَلِّفِينَ

Transliteration

Qul ma as-alukum AAalayhi min ajrinwama ana mina almutakallifeen

Yusuf Ali

Say: "No reward do I ask of you for this (Qur'an), nor am I a pretender.

38:86

إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ لِلْعَالَمِينَ

Transliteration

In huwa illa thikrun lilAAalameen

Yusuf Ali

"This is no less than a Message to (all) the Worlds.

38:87

وَلَتَعْلَمُنَّ نَبَأَهُ بَعْدَ حِينٍ

Transliteration

WalataAAlamunna nabaahu baAAda heen

Yusuf Ali

"And ye shall certainly know the truth of it (all) after a while."

38:88

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Transliteration

Bismi Allahi arrahmani arraheem

Yusuf Ali

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

تَنْزِيلُ الْكِتَابِ مِنَ اللَّهِ الْعَزِيزِ الْحَكِيمِ

Transliteration

Tanzeelu alkitabi mina AllahialAAazeezi alhakeem

Yusuf Ali

The revelation of this Book is from Allah, the Exalted in Power, full of Wisdom.

39:1

إِنَّا أَنْزَلْنَا إِلَيْكَ الْكِتَابَ بِالْحَقِّ فَاعْبُدِ اللَّهَ مُخْلِصًا لَهُ الدِّينَ

Transliteration

Inna anzalna ilayka alkitababilhaqqi faAAbudi Allaha mukhlisanlahu addeen

Yusuf Ali

Verily it is We Who have revealed the Book to thee in Truth: so serve Allah, offering Him sincere devotion.

39:2

أَلَا لِلَّهِ الدِّينُ الْخَالِصُ ۚ وَالَّذِينَ اتَّخَذُوا مِنْ دُونِهِ أَوْلِيَاءَ مَا نَعْبُدُهُمْ إِلَّا لِيُقَرِّبُونَا إِلَى اللَّهِ زُلْفَىٰ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَحْكُمُ بَيْنَهُمْ فِي مَا هُمْ فِيهِ يَخْتَلِفُونَ ۗ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَهْدِي مَنْ هُوَ كَاذِبٌ كَفَّارٌ

Transliteration

Ala lillahi addeenualkhalisu wallatheena ittakhathoomin doonihi awliyaa ma naAAbuduhum illaliyuqarriboona ila Allahi zulfa innaAllaha yahkumu baynahum fee ma hum feehiyakhtalifoona inna Allaha la yahdee man huwa kathibunkaffar

Yusuf Ali

Is it not to Allah that sincere devotion is due? But those who take for protectors other than Allah (say): "We only serve them in order that they may bring us nearer to Allah." Truly Allah will judge between them in that wherein they differ. But Allah guides not such as are false and ungrateful.

39:3

لَوْ أَرَادَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يَتَّخِذَ وَلَدًا لَاصْطَفَىٰ مِمَّا يَخْلُقُ مَا يَشَاءُ ۚ سُبْحَانَهُ ۖ هُوَ اللَّهُ الْوَاحِدُ الْقَهَّارُ

Transliteration

Law arada Allahu an yattakhithawaladan lastafa mimma yakhluqu mayashao subhanahu huwa Allahu alwahidualqahhar

Yusuf Ali

Had Allah wished to take to Himself a son, He could have chosen whom He pleased out of those whom He doth create: but Glory be to Him! (He is above such things.) He is Allah, the One, the Irresistible.

39:4

خَلَقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ بِالْحَقِّ ۖ يُكَوِّرُ اللَّيْلَ عَلَى النَّهَارِ وَيُكَوِّرُ النَّهَارَ عَلَى اللَّيْلِ ۖ وَسَخَّرَ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ ۖ كُلٌّ يَجْرِي لِأَجَلٍ مُسَمًّى ۗ أَلَا هُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْغَفَّارُ

Transliteration

Khalaqa assamawati wal-ardabilhaqqi yukawwiru allayla AAala annahariwayukawwiru annahara AAala allayliwasakhkhara ashshamsa walqamara kullun yajreeli-ajalin musamman ala huwa alAAazeezu alghaffar

Yusuf Ali

He created the heavens and the earth in true (proportions): He makes the Night overlap the Day, and the Day overlap the Night: He has subjected the sun and the moon (to His law): Each one follows a course for a time appointed. Is not He the Exalted in Power - He Who forgives again and again?

39:5

خَلَقَكُمْ مِنْ نَفْسٍ وَاحِدَةٍ ثُمَّ جَعَلَ مِنْهَا زَوْجَهَا وَأَنْزَلَ لَكُمْ مِنَ الْأَنْعَامِ ثَمَانِيَةَ أَزْوَاجٍ ۚ يَخْلُقُكُمْ فِي بُطُونِ أُمَّهَاتِكُمْ خَلْقًا مِنْ بَعْدِ خَلْقٍ فِي ظُلُمَاتٍ ثَلَاثٍ ۚ ذَٰلِكُمُ اللَّهُ رَبُّكُمْ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ ۖ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ فَأَنَّىٰ تُصْرَفُونَ

Transliteration

Khalaqakum min nafsin wahidatin thummajaAAala minha zawjaha waanzala lakum mina al-anAAamithamaniyata azwajin yakhluqukum fee butooniommahatikum khalqan min baAAdi khalqin fee thulumatinthalathin thalikumu Allahu rabbukum lahualmulku la ilaha illa huwa faanna tusrafoon

Yusuf Ali

He created you (all) from a single person: then created, of like nature, his mate; and he sent down for you eight head of cattle in pairs: He makes you, in the wombs of your mothers, in stages, one after another, in three veils of darkness. such is Allah, your Lord and Cherisher: to Him belongs (all) dominion. There is no god but He: then how are ye turned away (from your true Centre)?

39:6

إِنْ تَكْفُرُوا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ غَنِيٌّ عَنْكُمْ ۖ وَلَا يَرْضَىٰ لِعِبَادِهِ الْكُفْرَ ۖ وَإِنْ تَشْكُرُوا يَرْضَهُ لَكُمْ ۗ وَلَا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌ وِزْرَ أُخْرَىٰ ۗ ثُمَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكُمْ مَرْجِعُكُمْ فَيُنَبِّئُكُمْ بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ ۚ إِنَّهُ عَلِيمٌ بِذَاتِ الصُّدُورِ

Transliteration

In takfuroo fa-inna Allaha ghaniyyunAAankum wala yarda liAAibadihi alkufra wa-intashkuroo yardahu lakum wala taziru waziratunwizra okhra thumma ila rabbikum marjiAAukumfayunabbi-okum bima kuntum taAAmaloona innahu AAaleemun bithatiassudoor

Yusuf Ali

If ye reject (Allah), Truly Allah hath no need of you; but He liketh not ingratitude from His servants: if ye are grateful, He is pleased with you. No bearer of burdens can bear the burden of another. In the end, to your Lord is your Return, when He will tell you the truth of all that ye did (in this life). for He knoweth well all that is in (men's) hearts.

39:7

۞ وَإِذَا مَسَّ الْإِنْسَانَ ضُرٌّ دَعَا رَبَّهُ مُنِيبًا إِلَيْهِ ثُمَّ إِذَا خَوَّلَهُ نِعْمَةً مِنْهُ نَسِيَ مَا كَانَ يَدْعُو إِلَيْهِ مِنْ قَبْلُ وَجَعَلَ لِلَّهِ أَنْدَادًا لِيُضِلَّ عَنْ سَبِيلِهِ ۚ قُلْ تَمَتَّعْ بِكُفْرِكَ قَلِيلًا ۖ إِنَّكَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّارِ

Transliteration

Wa-itha massa al-insana durrundaAAa rabbahu muneeban ilayhi thumma ithakhawwalahu niAAmatan minhu nasiya ma kana yadAAooilayhi min qablu wajaAAala lillahi andadan liyudillaAAan sabeelihi qul tamattaAA bikufrika qaleelan innaka min as-habiannar

Yusuf Ali

When some trouble toucheth man, he crieth unto his Lord, turning to Him in repentance: but when He bestoweth a favour upon him as from Himself, (man) doth forget what he cried and prayed for before, and he doth set up rivals unto Allah, thus misleading others from Allah's Path. Say, "Enjoy thy blasphemy for a little while: verily thou art (one) of the Companions of the Fire!"

39:8

أَمَّنْ هُوَ قَانِتٌ آنَاءَ اللَّيْلِ سَاجِدًا وَقَائِمًا يَحْذَرُ الْآخِرَةَ وَيَرْجُو رَحْمَةَ رَبِّهِ ۗ قُلْ هَلْ يَسْتَوِي الَّذِينَ يَعْلَمُونَ وَالَّذِينَ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ ۗ إِنَّمَا يَتَذَكَّرُ أُولُو الْأَلْبَابِ

Transliteration

Amman huwa qanitun anaaallayli sajidan waqa-iman yahtharu al-akhiratawayarjoo rahmata rabbihi qul hal yastawee allatheenayaAAlamoona wallatheena la yaAAlamoonainnama yatathakkaru oloo al-albab

Yusuf Ali

Is one who worships devoutly during the hour of the night prostrating himself or standing (in adoration), who takes heed of the Hereafter, and who places his hope in the Mercy of his Lord - (like one who does not)? Say: "Are those equal, those who know and those who do not know? It is those who are endued with understanding that receive admonition.

39:9

قُلْ يَا عِبَادِ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا رَبَّكُمْ ۚ لِلَّذِينَ أَحْسَنُوا فِي هَٰذِهِ الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةٌ ۗ وَأَرْضُ اللَّهِ وَاسِعَةٌ ۗ إِنَّمَا يُوَفَّى الصَّابِرُونَ أَجْرَهُمْ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ

Transliteration

Qul ya AAibadi allatheenaamanoo ittaqoo rabbakum lillatheena ahsanoofee hathihi addunya hasanatun waarduAllahi wasiAAatun innama yuwaffa assabiroonaajrahum bighayri hisab

Yusuf Ali

Say: "O ye my servants who believe! Fear your Lord, good is (the reward) for those who do good in this world. Spacious is Allah's earth! those who patiently persevere will truly receive a reward without measure!"

39:10

قُلْ إِنِّي أُمِرْتُ أَنْ أَعْبُدَ اللَّهَ مُخْلِصًا لَهُ الدِّينَ

Transliteration

Qul innee omirtu an aAAbuda Allahamukhlisan lahu addeen

Yusuf Ali

Say: "Verily, I am commanded to serve Allah with sincere devotion;

39:11

وَأُمِرْتُ لِأَنْ أَكُونَ أَوَّلَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ

Transliteration

Waomirtu li-an akoona awwala almuslimeen

Yusuf Ali

"And I am commanded to be the first of those who bow to Allah in Islam."

39:12

قُلْ إِنِّي أَخَافُ إِنْ عَصَيْتُ رَبِّي عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ

Transliteration

Qul innee akhafu in AAasayturabbee AAathaba yawmin AAatheem

Yusuf Ali

Say: "I would, if I disobeyed my Lord, indeed have fear of the Penalty of a Mighty Day."

39:13

قُلِ اللَّهَ أَعْبُدُ مُخْلِصًا لَهُ دِينِي

Transliteration

Quli Allaha aAAbudu mukhlisanlahu deenee

Yusuf Ali

Say: "It is Allah I serve, with my sincere (and exclusive) devotion:

39:14

فَاعْبُدُوا مَا شِئْتُمْ مِنْ دُونِهِ ۗ قُلْ إِنَّ الْخَاسِرِينَ الَّذِينَ خَسِرُوا أَنْفُسَهُمْ وَأَهْلِيهِمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ۗ أَلَا ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ الْخُسْرَانُ الْمُبِينُ

Transliteration

FaAAbudoo ma shi/tum mindoonihi qul inna alkhasireena allatheena khasirooanfusahum waahleehim yawma alqiyamati ala thalikahuwa alkhusranu almubeen

Yusuf Ali

"Serve ye what ye will besides him." Say: "Truly, those in loss are those who lose their own souls and their People on the Day of Judgment: Ah! that is indeed the (real and) evident Loss!

39:15

لَهُمْ مِنْ فَوْقِهِمْ ظُلَلٌ مِنَ النَّارِ وَمِنْ تَحْتِهِمْ ظُلَلٌ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ يُخَوِّفُ اللَّهُ بِهِ عِبَادَهُ ۚ يَا عِبَادِ فَاتَّقُونِ

Transliteration

Lahum min fawqihim thulalunmina annari wamin tahtihim thulalunthalika yukhawwifu Allahu bihi AAibadahu yaAAibadi fattaqoon

Yusuf Ali

They shall have Layers of Fire above them, and Layers (of Fire) below them: with this doth Allah warn off his servants: "O My Servants! then fear ye Me!"

39:16

وَالَّذِينَ اجْتَنَبُوا الطَّاغُوتَ أَنْ يَعْبُدُوهَا وَأَنَابُوا إِلَى اللَّهِ لَهُمُ الْبُشْرَىٰ ۚ فَبَشِّرْ عِبَادِ

Transliteration

Wallatheena ijtanaboo attaghootaan yaAAbudooha waanaboo ila Allahilahumu albushra fabashshir AAibad

Yusuf Ali

Those who eschew Evil,- and fall not into its worship,- and turn to Allah (in repentance),- for them is Good News: so announce the Good News to My Servants,-

39:17

الَّذِينَ يَسْتَمِعُونَ الْقَوْلَ فَيَتَّبِعُونَ أَحْسَنَهُ ۚ أُولَٰئِكَ الَّذِينَ هَدَاهُمُ اللَّهُ ۖ وَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمْ أُولُو الْأَلْبَابِ

Transliteration

Allatheena yastamiAAoona alqawlafayattabiAAoona ahsanahu ola-ika allatheenahadahumu Allahu waola-ika hum oloo al-albab

Yusuf Ali

Those who listen to the Word, and follow the best (meaning) in it: those are the ones whom Allah has guided, and those are the ones endued with understanding.

39:18

أَفَمَنْ حَقَّ عَلَيْهِ كَلِمَةُ الْعَذَابِ أَفَأَنْتَ تُنْقِذُ مَنْ فِي النَّارِ

Transliteration

Afaman haqqa AAalayhi kalimatu alAAathabiafaanta tunqithu man fee annar

Yusuf Ali

Is, then, one against whom the decree of Punishment is justly due (equal to one who eschews Evil)? Wouldst thou, then, deliver one (who is) in the Fire?

39:19

لَٰكِنِ الَّذِينَ اتَّقَوْا رَبَّهُمْ لَهُمْ غُرَفٌ مِنْ فَوْقِهَا غُرَفٌ مَبْنِيَّةٌ تَجْرِي مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الْأَنْهَارُ ۖ وَعْدَ اللَّهِ ۖ لَا يُخْلِفُ اللَّهُ الْمِيعَادَ

Transliteration

Lakini allatheena ittaqawrabbahum lahum ghurafun min fawqiha ghurafun mabniyyatuntajree min tahtiha al-anharu waAAda Allahila yukhlifu Allahu almeeAAad

Yusuf Ali

But it is for those who fear their Lord. That lofty mansions, one above another, have been built: beneath them flow rivers (of delight): (such is) the Promise of Allah: never doth Allah fail in (His) promise.

39:20

أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّ اللَّهَ أَنْزَلَ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَاءً فَسَلَكَهُ يَنَابِيعَ فِي الْأَرْضِ ثُمَّ يُخْرِجُ بِهِ زَرْعًا مُخْتَلِفًا أَلْوَانُهُ ثُمَّ يَهِيجُ فَتَرَاهُ مُصْفَرًّا ثُمَّ يَجْعَلُهُ حُطَامًا ۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَذِكْرَىٰ لِأُولِي الْأَلْبَابِ

Transliteration

Alam tara anna Allaha anzala mina assama-imaan fasalakahu yanabeeAAa fee al-ardithumma yukhriju bihi zarAAan mukhtalifan alwanuhu thummayaheeju fatarahu musfarran thumma yajAAaluhu hutamaninna fee thalika lathikra li-olee al-albab

Yusuf Ali

Seest thou not that Allah sends down rain from the sky, and leads it through springs in the earth? Then He causes to grow, therewith, produce of various colours: then it withers; thou wilt see it grow yellow; then He makes it dry up and crumble away. Truly, in this, is a Message of remembrance to men of understanding.

39:21

أَفَمَنْ شَرَحَ اللَّهُ صَدْرَهُ لِلْإِسْلَامِ فَهُوَ عَلَىٰ نُورٍ مِنْ رَبِّهِ ۚ فَوَيْلٌ لِلْقَاسِيَةِ قُلُوبُهُمْ مِنْ ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ ۚ أُولَٰئِكَ فِي ضَلَالٍ مُبِينٍ

Transliteration

Afaman sharaha Allahu sadrahulil-islami fahuwa AAala noorin min rabbihi fawaylunlilqasiyati quloobuhum min thikri Allahi ola-ikafee dalalin mubeen

Yusuf Ali

Is one whose heart Allah has opened to Islam, so that he has received Enlightenment from Allah, (no better than one hard-hearted)? Woe to those whose hearts are hardened against celebrating the praises of Allah! they are manifestly wandering (in error)!

39:22

اللَّهُ نَزَّلَ أَحْسَنَ الْحَدِيثِ كِتَابًا مُتَشَابِهًا مَثَانِيَ تَقْشَعِرُّ مِنْهُ جُلُودُ الَّذِينَ يَخْشَوْنَ رَبَّهُمْ ثُمَّ تَلِينُ جُلُودُهُمْ وَقُلُوبُهُمْ إِلَىٰ ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ هُدَى اللَّهِ يَهْدِي بِهِ مَنْ يَشَاءُ ۚ وَمَنْ يُضْلِلِ اللَّهُ فَمَا لَهُ مِنْ هَادٍ

Transliteration

Allahu nazzala ahsana alhadeethikitaban mutashabihan mathaniya taqshaAAirruminhu juloodu allatheena yakhshawna rabbahum thummataleenu julooduhum waquloobuhum ila thikri Allahithalika huda Allahi yahdee bihi man yashaowaman yudlili Allahu fama lahu min had

Yusuf Ali

Allah has revealed (from time to time) the most beautiful Message in the form of a Book, consistent with itself, (yet) repeating (its teaching in various aspects): the skins of those who fear their Lord tremble thereat; then their skins and their hearts do soften to the celebration of Allah's praises. Such is the guidance of Allah: He guides therewith whom He pleases, but such as Allah leaves to stray, can have none to guide.

39:23

أَفَمَنْ يَتَّقِي بِوَجْهِهِ سُوءَ الْعَذَابِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ۚ وَقِيلَ لِلظَّالِمِينَ ذُوقُوا مَا كُنْتُمْ تَكْسِبُونَ

Transliteration

Afaman yattaqee biwajhihi soo-a alAAathabiyawma alqiyamati waqeela liththalimeenathooqoo ma kuntum taksiboon

Yusuf Ali

Is, then, one who has to fear the brunt of the Penalty on the Day of Judgment (and receive it) on his face, (like one guarded therefrom)? It will be said to the wrong-doers: "Taste ye (the fruits of) what ye earned!"

39:24

كَذَّبَ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ فَأَتَاهُمُ الْعَذَابُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ

Transliteration

Kaththaba allatheena minqablihim faatahumu alAAathabu min haythu layashAAuroon

Yusuf Ali

Those before them (also) rejected (revelation), and so the Punishment came to them from directions they did not perceive.

39:25

فَأَذَاقَهُمُ اللَّهُ الْخِزْيَ فِي الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا ۖ وَلَعَذَابُ الْآخِرَةِ أَكْبَرُ ۚ لَوْ كَانُوا يَعْلَمُونَ

Transliteration

Faathaqahumu Allahu alkhizyafee alhayati addunya walaAAathabual-akhirati akbaru law kanoo yaAAlamoon

Yusuf Ali

So Allah gave them a taste of humiliation in the present life, but greater is the punishment of the Hereafter, if they only knew!

39:26

وَلَقَدْ ضَرَبْنَا لِلنَّاسِ فِي هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنِ مِنْ كُلِّ مَثَلٍ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ

Transliteration

Walaqad darabna linnasifee hatha alqur-ani min kulli mathalin laAAallahumyatathakkaroon

Yusuf Ali

We have put forth for men, in this Qur'an every kind of Parable, in order that they may receive admonition.

39:27

قُرْآنًا عَرَبِيًّا غَيْرَ ذِي عِوَجٍ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَّقُونَ

Transliteration

Qur-anan AAarabiyyan ghayra theeAAiwajin laAAallahum yattaqoon

Yusuf Ali

(It is) a Qur'an in Arabic, without any crookedness (therein): in order that they may guard against Evil.

39:28

ضَرَبَ اللَّهُ مَثَلًا رَجُلًا فِيهِ شُرَكَاءُ مُتَشَاكِسُونَ وَرَجُلًا سَلَمًا لِرَجُلٍ هَلْ يَسْتَوِيَانِ مَثَلًا ۚ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ۚ بَلْ أَكْثَرُهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

Transliteration

Daraba Allahu mathalan rajulanfeehi shurakao mutashakisoona warajulan salamanlirajulin hal yastawiyani mathalan alhamdu lillahibal aktharuhum la yaAAlamoon

Yusuf Ali

Allah puts forth a Parable a man belonging to many partners at variance with each other, and a man belonging entirely to one master: are those two equal in comparison? Praise be to Allah! but most of them have no knowledge.

39:29

إِنَّكَ مَيِّتٌ وَإِنَّهُمْ مَيِّتُونَ

Transliteration

Innaka mayyitun wa-innahum mayyitoon

Yusuf Ali

Truly thou wilt die (one day), and truly they (too) will die (one day).

39:30

ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ عِنْدَ رَبِّكُمْ تَخْتَصِمُونَ

Transliteration

Thumma innakum yawma alqiyamatiAAinda rabbikum takhtasimoon

Yusuf Ali

In the end will ye (all), on the Day of Judgment, settle your disputes in the presence of your Lord.

39:31
