Quoting the Holy Qur’an:

“And to rehearse the Qur'an: and if any accept guidance, they do it for the good of their own souls, and if any stray, say: "I am only a Warner".
An-Naml, Chapter #27, Verse #92)

Juzu' 29

The 29th juz’ of the Quran includes eleven surahs (chapters) of the holy book, from the first verse of the famous 67th chapter (Al-Mulk 67:1) and continuing to the end of the 77th chapter (Al-Mursulat 77:50). While this juz' contains several complete chapters, the chapters themselves are somewhat short, ranging in length from 20-56 verses each.

Most of these short surahs were revealed at the beginning of the Makkan period, when the Muslim community was timid and small in number. Over time, they faced rejection and intimidation from the pagan population and leadership of Makkah.

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Transliteration

Bismi Allahi arrahmani arraheem

Yusuf Ali

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

تَبَارَكَ الَّذِي بِيَدِهِ الْمُلْكُ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ

Transliteration

Tabaraka allathee biyadihialmulku wahuwa AAala kulli shay-in qadeer

Yusuf Ali

Blessed be He in Whose hands is Dominion; and He over all things hath Power;-

67:1

الَّذِي خَلَقَ الْمَوْتَ وَالْحَيَاةَ لِيَبْلُوَكُمْ أَيُّكُمْ أَحْسَنُ عَمَلًا ۚ وَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْغَفُورُ

Transliteration

Allathee khalaqa almawta walhayataliyabluwakum ayyukum ahsanu AAamalan wahuwa alAAazeezualghafoor

Yusuf Ali

He Who created Death and Life, that He may try which of you is best in deed: and He is the Exalted in Might, Oft-Forgiving;-

67:2

الَّذِي خَلَقَ سَبْعَ سَمَاوَاتٍ طِبَاقًا ۖ مَا تَرَىٰ فِي خَلْقِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ مِنْ تَفَاوُتٍ ۖ فَارْجِعِ الْبَصَرَ هَلْ تَرَىٰ مِنْ فُطُورٍ

Transliteration

Allathee khalaqa sabAAa samawatintibaqan ma tara fee khalqi arrahmanimin tafawutin farjiAAi albasara hal taramin futoor

Yusuf Ali

He Who created the seven heavens one above another: No want of proportion wilt thou see in the Creation of (Allah) Most Gracious. So turn thy vision again: seest thou any flaw?

67:3

ثُمَّ ارْجِعِ الْبَصَرَ كَرَّتَيْنِ يَنْقَلِبْ إِلَيْكَ الْبَصَرُ خَاسِئًا وَهُوَ حَسِيرٌ

Transliteration

Thumma irjiAAi albasara karratayniyanqalib ilayka albasaru khasi-an wahuwa haseer

Yusuf Ali

Again turn thy vision a second time: (thy) vision will come back to thee dull and discomfited, in a state worn out.

67:4

وَلَقَدْ زَيَّنَّا السَّمَاءَ الدُّنْيَا بِمَصَابِيحَ وَجَعَلْنَاهَا رُجُومًا لِلشَّيَاطِينِ ۖ وَأَعْتَدْنَا لَهُمْ عَذَابَ السَّعِيرِ

Transliteration

Walaqad zayyanna assamaaaddunya bimasabeeha wajaAAalnaharujooman lishshayateeni waaAAtadna lahumAAathaba assaAAeer

Yusuf Ali

And we have, (from of old), adorned the lowest heaven with Lamps, and We have made such (Lamps) (as) missiles to drive away the Evil Ones, and have prepared for them the Penalty of the Blazing Fire.

67:5

وَلِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا بِرَبِّهِمْ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ ۖ وَبِئْسَ الْمَصِيرُ

Transliteration

Walillatheena kafaroo birabbihim AAathabujahannama wabi/sa almaseer

Yusuf Ali

For those who reject their Lord (and Cherisher) is the Penalty of Hell: and evil is (such), Destination.

67:6

إِذَا أُلْقُوا فِيهَا سَمِعُوا لَهَا شَهِيقًا وَهِيَ تَفُورُ

Transliteration

Itha olqoo feeha samiAAoo lahashaheeqan wahiya tafoor

Yusuf Ali

When they are cast therein, they will hear the (terrible) drawing in of its breath even as it blazes forth,

67:7

تَكَادُ تَمَيَّزُ مِنَ الْغَيْظِ ۖ كُلَّمَا أُلْقِيَ فِيهَا فَوْجٌ سَأَلَهُمْ خَزَنَتُهَا أَلَمْ يَأْتِكُمْ نَذِيرٌ

Transliteration

Takadu tamayyazu mina alghaythikullama olqiya feeha fawjun saalahum khazanatuhaalam ya/tikum natheer

Yusuf Ali

Almost bursting with fury: Every time a Group is cast therein, its Keepers will ask, "Did no Warner come to you?"

67:8

قَالُوا بَلَىٰ قَدْ جَاءَنَا نَذِيرٌ فَكَذَّبْنَا وَقُلْنَا مَا نَزَّلَ اللَّهُ مِنْ شَيْءٍ إِنْ أَنْتُمْ إِلَّا فِي ضَلَالٍ كَبِيرٍ

Transliteration

Qaloo bala qad jaananatheerun fakaththabna waqulna manazzala Allahu min shay-in in antum illa fee dalalinkabeer

Yusuf Ali

They will say: "Yes indeed; a Warner did come to us, but we rejected him and said, 'Allah never sent down any (Message): ye are nothing but an egregious delusion!'"

67:9

وَقَالُوا لَوْ كُنَّا نَسْمَعُ أَوْ نَعْقِلُ مَا كُنَّا فِي أَصْحَابِ السَّعِيرِ

Transliteration

Waqaloo law kunna nasmaAAu awnaAAqilu ma kunna fee as-habi assaAAeer

Yusuf Ali

They will further say: "Had we but listened or used our intelligence, we should not (now) be among the Companions of the Blazing Fire!"

67:10

فَاعْتَرَفُوا بِذَنْبِهِمْ فَسُحْقًا لِأَصْحَابِ السَّعِيرِ

Transliteration

FaAAtarafoo bithanbihim fasuhqanli-as-habi assaAAeer

Yusuf Ali

They will then confess their sins: but far will be (Forgiveness) from the Companions of the Blazing Fire!

67:11

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ يَخْشَوْنَ رَبَّهُمْ بِالْغَيْبِ لَهُمْ مَغْفِرَةٌ وَأَجْرٌ كَبِيرٌ

Transliteration

Inna allatheena yakhshawna rabbahumbilghaybi lahum maghfiratun waajrun kabeer

Yusuf Ali

As for those who fear their Lord unseen, for them is Forgiveness and a great Reward.

67:12

وَأَسِرُّوا قَوْلَكُمْ أَوِ اجْهَرُوا بِهِ ۖ إِنَّهُ عَلِيمٌ بِذَاتِ الصُّدُورِ

Transliteration

Waasirroo qawlakum awi ijharoo bihi innahuAAaleemun bithati assudoor

Yusuf Ali

And whether ye hide your word or publish it, He certainly has (full) knowledge, of the secrets of (all) hearts.

67:13

أَلَا يَعْلَمُ مَنْ خَلَقَ وَهُوَ اللَّطِيفُ الْخَبِيرُ

Transliteration

Ala yaAAlamu man khalaqa wahuwa allateefualkhabeer

Yusuf Ali

Should He not know,- He that created? and He is the One that understands the finest mysteries (and) is well-acquainted (with them).

67:14

هُوَ الَّذِي جَعَلَ لَكُمُ الْأَرْضَ ذَلُولًا فَامْشُوا فِي مَنَاكِبِهَا وَكُلُوا مِنْ رِزْقِهِ ۖ وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ

Transliteration

Huwa allathee jaAAala lakumu al-ardathaloolan famshoo fee manakibihawakuloo min rizqihi wa-ilayhi annushoor

Yusuf Ali

It is He Who has made the earth manageable for you, so traverse ye through its tracts and enjoy of the Sustenance which He furnishes: but unto Him is the Resurrection.

67:15

أَأَمِنْتُمْ مَنْ فِي السَّمَاءِ أَنْ يَخْسِفَ بِكُمُ الْأَرْضَ فَإِذَا هِيَ تَمُورُ

Transliteration

Aamintum man fee assama-i anyakhsifa bikumu al-arda fa-itha hiya tamoor

Yusuf Ali

Do ye feel secure that He Who is in heaven will not cause you to be swallowed up by the earth when it shakes (as in an earthquake)?

67:16

أَمْ أَمِنْتُمْ مَنْ فِي السَّمَاءِ أَنْ يُرْسِلَ عَلَيْكُمْ حَاصِبًا ۖ فَسَتَعْلَمُونَ كَيْفَ نَذِيرِ

Transliteration

Am amintum man fee assama-ian yursila AAalaykum hasiban fasataAAlamoona kayfa natheer

Yusuf Ali

Or do ye feel secure that He Who is in Heaven will not send against you a violent tornado (with showers of stones), so that ye shall know how (terrible) was My warning?

67:17

وَلَقَدْ كَذَّبَ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ فَكَيْفَ كَانَ نَكِيرِ

Transliteration

Walaqad kaththaba allatheenamin qablihim fakayfa kana nakeer

Yusuf Ali

But indeed men before them rejected (My warning): then how (terrible) was My rejection (of them)?

67:18

أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا إِلَى الطَّيْرِ فَوْقَهُمْ صَافَّاتٍ وَيَقْبِضْنَ ۚ مَا يُمْسِكُهُنَّ إِلَّا الرَّحْمَٰنُ ۚ إِنَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ بَصِيرٌ

Transliteration

Awa lam yaraw ila attayrifawqahum saffatin wayaqbidna mayumsikuhunna illa arrahmanu innahubikulli shay-in baseer

Yusuf Ali

Do they not observe the birds above them, spreading their wings and folding them in? None can uphold them except (Allah) Most Gracious: Truly (Allah) Most Gracious: Truly it is He that watches over all things.

67:19

أَمَّنْ هَٰذَا الَّذِي هُوَ جُنْدٌ لَكُمْ يَنْصُرُكُمْ مِنْ دُونِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ ۚ إِنِ الْكَافِرُونَ إِلَّا فِي غُرُورٍ

Transliteration

Amman hatha allathee huwajundun lakum yansurukum min dooni arrahmaniini alkafiroona illa fee ghuroor

Yusuf Ali

Nay, who is there that can help you, (even as) an army, besides (Allah) Most Merciful? In nothing but delusion are the Unbelievers.

67:20

أَمَّنْ هَٰذَا الَّذِي يَرْزُقُكُمْ إِنْ أَمْسَكَ رِزْقَهُ ۚ بَلْ لَجُّوا فِي عُتُوٍّ وَنُفُورٍ

Transliteration

Amman hatha allatheeyarzuqukum in amsaka rizqahu bal lajjoo fee AAutuwwin wanufoor

Yusuf Ali

Or who is there that can provide you with Sustenance if He were to withhold His provision? Nay, they obstinately persist in insolent impiety and flight (from the Truth).

67:21

أَفَمَنْ يَمْشِي مُكِبًّا عَلَىٰ وَجْهِهِ أَهْدَىٰ أَمَّنْ يَمْشِي سَوِيًّا عَلَىٰ صِرَاطٍ مُسْتَقِيمٍ

Transliteration

Afaman yamshee mukibban AAala wajhihiahda amman yamshee sawiyyan AAala siratinmustaqeem

Yusuf Ali

Is then one who walks headlong, with his face grovelling, better guided,- or one who walks evenly on a Straight Way?

67:22

قُلْ هُوَ الَّذِي أَنْشَأَكُمْ وَجَعَلَ لَكُمُ السَّمْعَ وَالْأَبْصَارَ وَالْأَفْئِدَةَ ۖ قَلِيلًا مَا تَشْكُرُونَ

Transliteration

Qul huwa allathee anshaakum wajaAAalalakumu assamAAa wal-absara wal-af-idataqaleelan ma tashkuroon

Yusuf Ali

Say: "It is He Who has created you (and made you grow), and made for you the faculties of hearing, seeing, feeling and understanding: little thanks it is ye give.

67:23

قُلْ هُوَ الَّذِي ذَرَأَكُمْ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَإِلَيْهِ تُحْشَرُونَ

Transliteration

Qul huwa allathee tharaakumfee al-ardi wa-ilayhi tuhsharoon

Yusuf Ali

Say: "It is He Who has multiplied you through the earth, and to Him shall ye be gathered together."

67:24

وَيَقُولُونَ مَتَىٰ هَٰذَا الْوَعْدُ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ

Transliteration

Wayaqooloona mata hathaalwaAAdu in kuntum sadiqeen

Yusuf Ali

They ask: When will this promise be (fulfilled)? - If ye are telling the truth.

67:25

قُلْ إِنَّمَا الْعِلْمُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ وَإِنَّمَا أَنَا نَذِيرٌ مُبِينٌ

Transliteration

Qul innama alAAilmu AAinda Allahiwa-innama ana natheerun mubeen

Yusuf Ali

Say: "As to the knowledge of the time, it is with Allah alone: I am (sent) only to warn plainly in public."

67:26

فَلَمَّا رَأَوْهُ زُلْفَةً سِيئَتْ وُجُوهُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا وَقِيلَ هَٰذَا الَّذِي كُنْتُمْ بِهِ تَدَّعُونَ

Transliteration

Falamma raawhu zulfatan see-atwujoohu allatheena kafaroo waqeela hatha allatheekuntum bihi taddaAAoon

Yusuf Ali

At length, when they see it close at hand, grieved will be the faces of the Unbelievers, and it will be said (to them): "This is (the promise fulfilled), which ye were calling for!"

67:27

قُلْ أَرَأَيْتُمْ إِنْ أَهْلَكَنِيَ اللَّهُ وَمَنْ مَعِيَ أَوْ رَحِمَنَا فَمَنْ يُجِيرُ الْكَافِرِينَ مِنْ عَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ

Transliteration

Qul araaytum in ahlakaniya Allahuwaman maAAiya aw rahimana faman yujeeru alkafireenamin AAathabin aleem

Yusuf Ali

Say: "See ye?- If Allah were to destroy me, and those with me, or if He bestows His Mercy on us,- yet who can deliver the Unbelievers from a grievous Penalty?"

67:28

قُلْ هُوَ الرَّحْمَٰنُ آمَنَّا بِهِ وَعَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْنَا ۖ فَسَتَعْلَمُونَ مَنْ هُوَ فِي ضَلَالٍ مُبِينٍ

Transliteration

Qul huwa arrahmanu amannabihi waAAalayhi tawakkalna fasataAAlamoona man huwa fee dalalinmubeen

Yusuf Ali

Say: "He is (Allah) Most Gracious: We have believed in Him, and on Him have we put our trust: So, soon will ye know which (of us) it is that is in manifest error."

67:29

قُلْ أَرَأَيْتُمْ إِنْ أَصْبَحَ مَاؤُكُمْ غَوْرًا فَمَنْ يَأْتِيكُمْ بِمَاءٍ مَعِينٍ

Transliteration

Qul araaytum in asbaha maokumghawran faman ya/teekum bima-in maAAeen

Yusuf Ali

Say: "See ye?- If your stream be some morning lost (in the underground earth), who then can supply you with clear-flowing water?"

67:30

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Transliteration

Bismi Allahi arrahmani arraheem

Yusuf Ali

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

ن ۚ وَالْقَلَمِ وَمَا يَسْطُرُونَ

Transliteration

Noon walqalami wama yasturoon

Yusuf Ali

Nun. By the Pen and the (Record) which (men) write,-

68:1

مَا أَنْتَ بِنِعْمَةِ رَبِّكَ بِمَجْنُونٍ

Transliteration

Ma anta biniAAmati rabbika bimajnoon

Yusuf Ali

Thou art not, by the Grace of thy Lord, mad or possessed.

68:2

وَإِنَّ لَكَ لَأَجْرًا غَيْرَ مَمْنُونٍ

Transliteration

Wa-inna laka laajran ghayra mamnoon

Yusuf Ali

Nay, verily for thee is a Reward unfailing:

68:3

وَإِنَّكَ لَعَلَىٰ خُلُقٍ عَظِيمٍ

Transliteration

Wa-innaka laAAala khuluqin AAatheem

Yusuf Ali

And thou (standest) on an exalted standard of character.

68:4

فَسَتُبْصِرُ وَيُبْصِرُونَ

Transliteration

Fasatubsiru wayubsiroon

Yusuf Ali

Soon wilt thou see, and they will see,

68:5

بِأَيْيِكُمُ الْمَفْتُونُ

Transliteration

Bi-ayyikumu almaftoon

Yusuf Ali

Which of you is afflicted with madness.

68:6

إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِمَنْ ضَلَّ عَنْ سَبِيلِهِ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِالْمُهْتَدِينَ

Transliteration

Inna rabbaka huwa aAAlamu biman dallaAAan sabeelihi wahuwa aAAlamu bilmuhtadeen

Yusuf Ali

Verily it is thy Lord that knoweth best, which (among men) hath strayed from His Path: and He knoweth best those who receive (true) Guidance.

68:7

فَلَا تُطِعِ الْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Transliteration

Fala tutiAAi almukaththibeen

Yusuf Ali

So hearken not to those who deny (the Truth).

68:8

وَدُّوا لَوْ تُدْهِنُ فَيُدْهِنُونَ

Transliteration

Waddoo law tudhinu fayudhinoon

Yusuf Ali

Their desire is that thou shouldst be pliant: so would they be pliant.

68:9

وَلَا تُطِعْ كُلَّ حَلَّافٍ مَهِينٍ

Transliteration

Wala tutiAA kulla hallafinmaheen

Yusuf Ali

Heed not the type of despicable men,- ready with oaths,

68:10

هَمَّازٍ مَشَّاءٍ بِنَمِيمٍ

Transliteration

Hammazin mashsha-in binameem

Yusuf Ali

A slanderer, going about with calumnies,

68:11

مَنَّاعٍ لِلْخَيْرِ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ

Transliteration

MannaAAin lilkhayri muAAtadin atheem

Yusuf Ali

(Habitually) hindering (all) good, transgressing beyond bounds, deep in sin,

68:12

عُتُلٍّ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ زَنِيمٍ

Transliteration

AAutullin baAAda thalika zaneem

Yusuf Ali

Violent (and cruel),- with all that, base-born,-

68:13

أَنْ كَانَ ذَا مَالٍ وَبَنِينَ

Transliteration

An kana tha malinwabaneen

Yusuf Ali

Because he possesses wealth and (numerous) sons.

68:14

إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ آيَاتُنَا قَالَ أَسَاطِيرُ الْأَوَّلِينَ

Transliteration

Itha tutla AAalayhi ayatunaqala asateeru al-awwaleen

Yusuf Ali

When to him are rehearsed Our Signs, "Tales of the ancients", he cries!

68:15

سَنَسِمُهُ عَلَى الْخُرْطُومِ

Transliteration

Sanasimuhu AAala alkhurtoom

Yusuf Ali

Soon shall We brand (the beast) on the snout!

68:16

إِنَّا بَلَوْنَاهُمْ كَمَا بَلَوْنَا أَصْحَابَ الْجَنَّةِ إِذْ أَقْسَمُوا لَيَصْرِمُنَّهَا مُصْبِحِينَ

Transliteration

Inna balawnahum kamabalawna as-haba aljannati ith aqsamoolayasrimunnaha musbiheen

Yusuf Ali

Verily We have tried them as We tried the People of the Garden, when they resolved to gather the fruits of the (garden) in the morning.

68:17

وَلَا يَسْتَثْنُونَ

Transliteration

Wala yastathnoon

Yusuf Ali

But made no reservation, ("If it be Allah's Will").

68:18

فَطَافَ عَلَيْهَا طَائِفٌ مِنْ رَبِّكَ وَهُمْ نَائِمُونَ

Transliteration

Fatafa AAalayha ta-ifunmin rabbika wahum na-imoon

Yusuf Ali

Then there came on the (garden) a visitation from thy Lord, (which swept away) all around, while they were asleep.

68:19

فَأَصْبَحَتْ كَالصَّرِيمِ

Transliteration

Faasbahat kassareem

Yusuf Ali

So the (garden) became, by the morning, like a dark and desolate spot, (whose fruit had been gathered).

68:20

فَتَنَادَوْا مُصْبِحِينَ

Transliteration

Fatanadaw musbiheen

Yusuf Ali

As the morning broke, they called out, one to another,-

68:21

أَنِ اغْدُوا عَلَىٰ حَرْثِكُمْ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَارِمِينَ

Transliteration

Ani ighdoo AAala harthikum inkuntum sarimeen

Yusuf Ali

"Go ye to your tilth (betimes) in the morning, if ye would gather the fruits."

68:22

فَانْطَلَقُوا وَهُمْ يَتَخَافَتُونَ

Transliteration

Fantalaqoo wahum yatakhafatoon

Yusuf Ali

So they departed, conversing in secret low tones, (saying)-

68:23

أَنْ لَا يَدْخُلَنَّهَا الْيَوْمَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِسْكِينٌ

Transliteration

An la yadkhulannaha alyawmaAAalaykum miskeen

Yusuf Ali

"Let not a single indigent person break in upon you into the (garden) this day."

68:24

وَغَدَوْا عَلَىٰ حَرْدٍ قَادِرِينَ

Transliteration

Waghadaw AAala hardin qadireen

Yusuf Ali

And they opened the morning, strong in an (unjust) resolve.

68:25

فَلَمَّا رَأَوْهَا قَالُوا إِنَّا لَضَالُّونَ

Transliteration

Falamma raawha qalooinna ladalloon

Yusuf Ali

But when they saw the (garden), they said: "We have surely lost our way:

68:26

بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ

Transliteration

Bal nahnu mahroomoon

Yusuf Ali

"Indeed we are shut out (of the fruits of our labour)!"

68:27

قَالَ أَوْسَطُهُمْ أَلَمْ أَقُلْ لَكُمْ لَوْلَا تُسَبِّحُونَ

Transliteration

Qala awsatuhum alam aqul lakumlawla tusabbihoon

Yusuf Ali

Said one of them, more just (than the rest): "Did I not say to you, 'Why not glorify (Allah)?'"

68:28

قَالُوا سُبْحَانَ رَبِّنَا إِنَّا كُنَّا ظَالِمِينَ

Transliteration

Qaloo subhana rabbinainna kunna thalimeen

Yusuf Ali

They said: "Glory to our Lord! Verily we have been doing wrong!"

68:29

فَأَقْبَلَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ يَتَلَاوَمُونَ

Transliteration

Faaqbala baAAduhum AAala baAAdinyatalawamoon

Yusuf Ali

Then they turned, one against another, in reproach.

68:30

قَالُوا يَا وَيْلَنَا إِنَّا كُنَّا طَاغِينَ

Transliteration

Qaloo ya waylana innakunna tagheen

Yusuf Ali

They said: "Alas for us! We have indeed transgressed!

68:31

عَسَىٰ رَبُّنَا أَنْ يُبْدِلَنَا خَيْرًا مِنْهَا إِنَّا إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا رَاغِبُونَ

Transliteration

AAasa rabbuna an yubdilanakhayran minha inna ila rabbina raghiboon

Yusuf Ali

"It may be that our Lord will give us in exchange a better (garden) than this: for we do turn to Him (in repentance)!"

68:32

كَذَٰلِكَ الْعَذَابُ ۖ وَلَعَذَابُ الْآخِرَةِ أَكْبَرُ ۚ لَوْ كَانُوا يَعْلَمُونَ

Transliteration

Kathalika alAAathabu walaAAathabual-akhirati akbaru law kanoo yaAAlamoon

Yusuf Ali

Such is the Punishment (in this life); but greater is the Punishment in the Hereafter,- if only they knew!

68:33

إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْ جَنَّاتِ النَّعِيمِ

Transliteration

Inna lilmuttaqeena AAinda rabbihim jannatiannaAAeem

Yusuf Ali

Verily, for the Righteous, are Gardens of Delight, in the Presence of their Lord.

68:34

أَفَنَجْعَلُ الْمُسْلِمِينَ كَالْمُجْرِمِينَ

Transliteration

AfanajAAalu almuslimeena kalmujrimeen

Yusuf Ali

ShallWe then treat the People of Faith like the People of Sin?

68:35

مَا لَكُمْ كَيْفَ تَحْكُمُونَ

Transliteration

Ma lakum kayfa tahkumoon

Yusuf Ali

What is the matter with you? How judge ye?

68:36

أَمْ لَكُمْ كِتَابٌ فِيهِ تَدْرُسُونَ

Transliteration

Am lakum kitabun feehi tadrusoon

Yusuf Ali

Or have ye a book through which ye learn-

68:37

إِنَّ لَكُمْ فِيهِ لَمَا تَخَيَّرُونَ

Transliteration

Inna lakum feehi lama takhayyaroon

Yusuf Ali

That ye shall have, through it whatever ye choose?

68:38

أَمْ لَكُمْ أَيْمَانٌ عَلَيْنَا بَالِغَةٌ إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ ۙ إِنَّ لَكُمْ لَمَا تَحْكُمُونَ

Transliteration

Am lakum aymanun AAalayna balighatunila yawmi alqiyamati inna lakum lama tahkumoon

Yusuf Ali

Or have ye Covenants with Us to oath, reaching to the Day of Judgment, (providing) that ye shall have whatever ye shall demand?

68:39

سَلْهُمْ أَيُّهُمْ بِذَٰلِكَ زَعِيمٌ

Transliteration

Salhum ayyuhum bithalika zaAAeem

Yusuf Ali

Ask thou of them, which of them will stand surety for that!

68:40

أَمْ لَهُمْ شُرَكَاءُ فَلْيَأْتُوا بِشُرَكَائِهِمْ إِنْ كَانُوا صَادِقِينَ

Transliteration

Am lahum shurakao falya/too bishuraka-ihimin kanoo sadiqeen

Yusuf Ali

Or have they some "Partners" (in Allahhead)? Then let them produce their "partners", if they are truthful!

68:41

يَوْمَ يُكْشَفُ عَنْ سَاقٍ وَيُدْعَوْنَ إِلَى السُّجُودِ فَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ

Transliteration

Yawma yukshafu AAan saqin wayudAAawnaila assujoodi fala yastateeAAoon

Yusuf Ali

The Day that the shin shall be laid bare, and they shall be summoned to bow in adoration, but they shall not be able,-

68:42

خَاشِعَةً أَبْصَارُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ۖ وَقَدْ كَانُوا يُدْعَوْنَ إِلَى السُّجُودِ وَهُمْ سَالِمُونَ

Transliteration

KhashiAAatan absaruhumtarhaquhum thillatun waqad kanoo yudAAawna ilaassujoodi wahum salimoon

Yusuf Ali

Their eyes will be cast down,- ignominy will cover them; seeing that they had been summoned aforetime to bow in adoration, while they were whole, (and had refused).

68:43

فَذَرْنِي وَمَنْ يُكَذِّبُ بِهَٰذَا الْحَدِيثِ ۖ سَنَسْتَدْرِجُهُمْ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

Transliteration

Fatharnee waman yukaththibubihatha alhadeethi sanastadrijuhum min haythula yaAAlamoon

Yusuf Ali

Then leave Me alone with such as reject this Message: by degrees shall We punish them from directions they perceive not.

68:44

وَأُمْلِي لَهُمْ ۚ إِنَّ كَيْدِي مَتِينٌ

Transliteration

Waomlee lahum inna kaydee mateen

Yusuf Ali

A (long) respite will I grant them: truly powerful is My Plan.

68:45

أَمْ تَسْأَلُهُمْ أَجْرًا فَهُمْ مِنْ مَغْرَمٍ مُثْقَلُونَ

Transliteration

Am tas-aluhum ajran fahum min maghraminmuthqaloon

Yusuf Ali

Or is it that thou dost ask them for a reward, so that they are burdened with a load of debt?-

68:46

أَمْ عِنْدَهُمُ الْغَيْبُ فَهُمْ يَكْتُبُونَ

Transliteration

Am AAindahumu alghaybu fahum yaktuboon

Yusuf Ali

Or that the Unseen is in their hands, so that they can write it down?

68:47

فَاصْبِرْ لِحُكْمِ رَبِّكَ وَلَا تَكُنْ كَصَاحِبِ الْحُوتِ إِذْ نَادَىٰ وَهُوَ مَكْظُومٌ

Transliteration

Fasbir lihukmi rabbikawala takun kasahibi alhooti ith nadawahuwa makthoom

Yusuf Ali

So wait with patience for the Command of thy Lord, and be not like the Companion of the Fish,- when he cried out in agony.

68:48

لَوْلَا أَنْ تَدَارَكَهُ نِعْمَةٌ مِنْ رَبِّهِ لَنُبِذَ بِالْعَرَاءِ وَهُوَ مَذْمُومٌ

Transliteration

Lawla an tadarakahu niAAmatunmin rabbihi lanubitha bilAAara-i wahuwa mathmoom

Yusuf Ali

Had not Grace from his Lord reached him, he would indeed have been cast off on the naked shore, in disgrace.

68:49

فَاجْتَبَاهُ رَبُّهُ فَجَعَلَهُ مِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ

Transliteration

Fajtabahu rabbuhu fajaAAalahumina assaliheen

Yusuf Ali

Thus did his Lord choose him and make him of the Company of the Righteous.

68:50

وَإِنْ يَكَادُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لَيُزْلِقُونَكَ بِأَبْصَارِهِمْ لَمَّا سَمِعُوا الذِّكْرَ وَيَقُولُونَ إِنَّهُ لَمَجْنُونٌ

Transliteration

Wa-in yakadu allatheenakafaroo layuzliqoonaka bi-absarihim lamma samiAAooaththikra wayaqooloona innahu lamajnoon

Yusuf Ali

And the Unbelievers would almost trip thee up with their eyes when they hear the Message; and they say: "Surely he is possessed!"

68:51

وَمَا هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ لِلْعَالَمِينَ

Transliteration

Wama huwa illa thikrunlilAAalameen

Yusuf Ali

But it is nothing less than a Message to all the worlds.

68:52

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Transliteration

Bismi Allahi arrahmani arraheem

Yusuf Ali

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

الْحَاقَّةُ

Transliteration

Alhaqqa

Yusuf Ali

The Sure Reality!

69:1

مَا الْحَاقَّةُ

Transliteration

Ma alhaqqa

Yusuf Ali

What is the Sure Reality?

69:2

وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا الْحَاقَّةُ

Transliteration

Wama adraka ma alhaqqa

Yusuf Ali

And what will make thee realise what the Sure Reality is?

69:3

كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ وَعَادٌ بِالْقَارِعَةِ

Transliteration

Kaththabat thamoodu waAAadun bilqariAAa

Yusuf Ali

The Thamud and the 'Ad People (branded) as false the Stunning Calamity!

69:4

فَأَمَّا ثَمُودُ فَأُهْلِكُوا بِالطَّاغِيَةِ

Transliteration

Faamma thamoodu faohlikoo bittaghiya

Yusuf Ali

But the Thamud,- they were destroyed by a terrible Storm of thunder and lightning!

69:5

وَأَمَّا عَادٌ فَأُهْلِكُوا بِرِيحٍ صَرْصَرٍ عَاتِيَةٍ

Transliteration

Waamma AAadun faohlikoo bireehinsarsarin AAatiya

Yusuf Ali

And the 'Ad, they were destroyed by a furious Wind, exceedingly violent;

69:6

سَخَّرَهَا عَلَيْهِمْ سَبْعَ لَيَالٍ وَثَمَانِيَةَ أَيَّامٍ حُسُومًا فَتَرَى الْقَوْمَ فِيهَا صَرْعَىٰ كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ خَاوِيَةٍ

Transliteration

Sakhkharaha AAalayhim sabAAa layalinwathamaniyata ayyamin husooman fataraalqawma feeha sarAAa kaannahum aAAjazunakhlin khawiya

Yusuf Ali

He made it rage against them seven nights and eight days in succession: so that thou couldst see the (whole) people lying prostrate in its (path), as they had been roots of hollow palm-trees tumbled down!

69:7

فَهَلْ تَرَىٰ لَهُمْ مِنْ بَاقِيَةٍ

Transliteration

Fahal tara lahum min baqiya

Yusuf Ali

Then seest thou any of them left surviving?

69:8

وَجَاءَ فِرْعَوْنُ وَمَنْ قَبْلَهُ وَالْمُؤْتَفِكَاتُ بِالْخَاطِئَةِ

Transliteration

Wajaa firAAawnu waman qablahu walmu/tafikatubilkhati-a

Yusuf Ali

And Pharaoh, and those before him, and the Cities Overthrown, committed habitual Sin.

69:9

فَعَصَوْا رَسُولَ رَبِّهِمْ فَأَخَذَهُمْ أَخْذَةً رَابِيَةً

Transliteration

FaAAasaw rasoola rabbihim faakhathahumakhthatan rabiya

Yusuf Ali

And disobeyed (each) the messenger of their Lord; so He punished them with an abundant Penalty.

69:10

إِنَّا لَمَّا طَغَى الْمَاءُ حَمَلْنَاكُمْ فِي الْجَارِيَةِ

Transliteration

Inna lamma taghaalmao hamalnakum fee aljariya

Yusuf Ali

We, when the water (of Noah's Flood) overflowed beyond its limits, carried you (mankind), in the floating (Ark),

69:11

لِنَجْعَلَهَا لَكُمْ تَذْكِرَةً وَتَعِيَهَا أُذُنٌ وَاعِيَةٌ

Transliteration

LinajAAalaha lakum tathkiratanwataAAiyaha othunun waAAiya

Yusuf Ali

That We might make it a Message unto you, and that ears (that should hear the tale and) retain its memory should bear its (lessons) in remembrance.

69:12

فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِي الصُّورِ نَفْخَةٌ وَاحِدَةٌ

Transliteration

Fa-itha nufikha fee assoorinafkhatun wahida

Yusuf Ali

Then, when one blast is sounded on the Trumpet,

69:13

وَحُمِلَتِ الْأَرْضُ وَالْجِبَالُ فَدُكَّتَا دَكَّةً وَاحِدَةً

Transliteration

Wahumilati al-ardu waljibalufadukkata dakkatan wahida

Yusuf Ali

And the earth is moved, and its mountains, and they are crushed to powder at one stroke,-

69:14

فَيَوْمَئِذٍ وَقَعَتِ الْوَاقِعَةُ

Transliteration

Fayawma-ithin waqaAAati alwaqiAAa

Yusuf Ali

On that Day shall the (Great) Event come to pass.

69:15

وَانْشَقَّتِ السَّمَاءُ فَهِيَ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاهِيَةٌ

Transliteration

Wanshaqqati assamaofahiya yawma-ithin wahiya

Yusuf Ali

And the sky will be rent asunder, for it will that Day be flimsy,

69:16

وَالْمَلَكُ عَلَىٰ أَرْجَائِهَا ۚ وَيَحْمِلُ عَرْشَ رَبِّكَ فَوْقَهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ ثَمَانِيَةٌ

Transliteration

Walmalaku AAala arja-ihawayahmilu AAarsha rabbika fawqahum yawma-ithin thamaniya

Yusuf Ali

And the angels will be on its sides, and eight will, that Day, bear the Throne of thy Lord above them.

69:17

يَوْمَئِذٍ تُعْرَضُونَ لَا تَخْفَىٰ مِنْكُمْ خَافِيَةٌ

Transliteration

Yawma-ithin tuAAradoona latakhfa minkum khafiya

Yusuf Ali

That Day shall ye be brought to Judgment: not an act of yours that ye hide will be hidden.

69:18

فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ بِيَمِينِهِ فَيَقُولُ هَاؤُمُ اقْرَءُوا كِتَابِيَهْ

Transliteration

Faamma man ootiya kitabahubiyameenihi fayaqoolu haomu iqraoo kitabiyah

Yusuf Ali

Then he that will be given his Record in his right hand will say: "Ah here! Read ye my Record!

69:19

إِنِّي ظَنَنْتُ أَنِّي مُلَاقٍ حِسَابِيَهْ

Transliteration

Innee thanantu annee mulaqinhisabiyah

Yusuf Ali

"I did really understand that my Account would (One Day) reach me!"

69:20

فَهُوَ فِي عِيشَةٍ رَاضِيَةٍ

Transliteration

Fahuwa fee AAeeshatin radiya

Yusuf Ali

And he will be in a life of Bliss,

69:21

فِي جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍ

Transliteration

Fee jannatin AAaliya

Yusuf Ali

In a Garden on high,

69:22

قُطُوفُهَا دَانِيَةٌ

Transliteration

Qutoofuha daniya

Yusuf Ali

The Fruits whereof (will hang in bunches) low and near.

69:23

كُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا هَنِيئًا بِمَا أَسْلَفْتُمْ فِي الْأَيَّامِ الْخَالِيَةِ

Transliteration

Kuloo washraboo hanee-an bimaaslaftum fee al-ayyami alkhaliya

Yusuf Ali

"Eat ye and drink ye, with full satisfaction; because of the (good) that ye sent before you, in the days that are gone!"

69:24

وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَابَهُ بِشِمَالِهِ فَيَقُولُ يَا لَيْتَنِي لَمْ أُوتَ كِتَابِيَهْ

Transliteration

Waamma man ootiya kitabahubishimalihi fayaqoolu ya laytanee lam oota kitabiyah

Yusuf Ali

And he that will be given his Record in his left hand, will say: "Ah! Would that my Record had not been given to me!

69:25

وَلَمْ أَدْرِ مَا حِسَابِيَهْ

Transliteration

Walam adri ma hisabiyah

Yusuf Ali

"And that I had never realised how my account (stood)!

69:26

يَا لَيْتَهَا كَانَتِ الْقَاضِيَةَ

Transliteration

Ya laytaha kanati alqadiya

Yusuf Ali

"Ah! Would that (Death) had made an end of me!

69:27

مَا أَغْنَىٰ عَنِّي مَالِيَهْ

Transliteration

Ma aghna AAannee maliyah

Yusuf Ali

"Of no profit to me has been my wealth!

69:28

هَلَكَ عَنِّي سُلْطَانِيَهْ

Transliteration

Halaka AAannee sultaniyah

Yusuf Ali

"My power has perished from me!"...

69:29

خُذُوهُ فَغُلُّوهُ

Transliteration

Khuthoohu faghullooh

Yusuf Ali

(The stern command will say): "Seize ye him, and bind ye him,

69:30

ثُمَّ الْجَحِيمَ صَلُّوهُ

Transliteration

Thumma aljaheema sallooh

Yusuf Ali

"And burn ye him in the Blazing Fire.

69:31

ثُمَّ فِي سِلْسِلَةٍ ذَرْعُهَا سَبْعُونَ ذِرَاعًا فَاسْلُكُوهُ

Transliteration

Thumma fee silsilatin tharAAuhasabAAoona thiraAAan faslukooh

Yusuf Ali

"Further, make him march in a chain, whereof the length is seventy cubits!

69:32

إِنَّهُ كَانَ لَا يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ الْعَظِيمِ

Transliteration

Innahu kana la yu/minu billahialAAatheem

Yusuf Ali

"This was he that would not believe in Allah Most High.

69:33

وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ الْمِسْكِينِ

Transliteration

Wala yahuddu AAalataAAami almiskeen

Yusuf Ali

"And would not encourage the feeding of the indigent!

69:34

فَلَيْسَ لَهُ الْيَوْمَ هَاهُنَا حَمِيمٌ

Transliteration

Falaysa lahu alyawma hahuna hameem

Yusuf Ali

"So no friend hath he here this Day.

69:35

وَلَا طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِنْ غِسْلِينٍ

Transliteration

Wala taAAamun illamin ghisleen

Yusuf Ali

"Nor hath he any food except the corruption from the washing of wounds,

69:36

لَا يَأْكُلُهُ إِلَّا الْخَاطِئُونَ

Transliteration

La ya/kuluhu illa alkhati-oon

Yusuf Ali

"Which none do eat but those in sin."

69:37

فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِمَا تُبْصِرُونَ

Transliteration

Fala oqsimu bima tubsiroon

Yusuf Ali

So I do call to witness what ye see,

69:38

وَمَا لَا تُبْصِرُونَ

Transliteration

Wama la tubsiroon

Yusuf Ali

And what ye see not,

69:39

إِنَّهُ لَقَوْلُ رَسُولٍ كَرِيمٍ

Transliteration

Innahu laqawlu rasoolin kareem

Yusuf Ali

That this is verily the word of an honoured messenger;

69:40

وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَاعِرٍ ۚ قَلِيلًا مَا تُؤْمِنُونَ

Transliteration

Wama huwa biqawli shaAAirinqaleelan ma tu/minoon

Yusuf Ali

It is not the word of a poet: little it is ye believe!

69:41

وَلَا بِقَوْلِ كَاهِنٍ ۚ قَلِيلًا مَا تَذَكَّرُونَ

Transliteration

Wala biqawli kahinin qaleelanma tathakkaroon

Yusuf Ali

Nor is it the word of a soothsayer: little admonition it is ye receive.

69:42

تَنْزِيلٌ مِنْ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

Transliteration

Tanzeelun min rabbi alAAalameen

Yusuf Ali

(This is) a Message sent down from the Lord of the Worlds.

69:43

وَلَوْ تَقَوَّلَ عَلَيْنَا بَعْضَ الْأَقَاوِيلِ

Transliteration

Walaw taqawwala AAalayna baAAdaal-aqaweel

Yusuf Ali

And if the messenger were to invent any sayings in Our name,

69:44

لَأَخَذْنَا مِنْهُ بِالْيَمِينِ

Transliteration

Laakhathna minhu bilyameen

Yusuf Ali

We should certainly seize him by his right hand,

69:45

ثُمَّ لَقَطَعْنَا مِنْهُ الْوَتِينَ

Transliteration

Thumma laqataAAna minhualwateen

Yusuf Ali

And We should certainly then cut off the artery of his heart:

69:46

فَمَا مِنْكُمْ مِنْ أَحَدٍ عَنْهُ حَاجِزِينَ

Transliteration

Fama minkum min ahadin AAanhu hajizeen

Yusuf Ali

Nor could any of you withhold him (from Our wrath).

69:47

وَإِنَّهُ لَتَذْكِرَةٌ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ

Transliteration

Wa-innahu latathkiratun lilmuttaqeen

Yusuf Ali

But verily this is a Message for the Allah-fearing.

69:48

وَإِنَّا لَنَعْلَمُ أَنَّ مِنْكُمْ مُكَذِّبِينَ

Transliteration

Wa-inna lanaAAlamu anna minkum mukaththibeen

Yusuf Ali

And We certainly know that there are amongst you those that reject (it).

69:49

وَإِنَّهُ لَحَسْرَةٌ عَلَى الْكَافِرِينَ

Transliteration

Wa-innahu lahasratun AAala alkafireen

Yusuf Ali

But truly (Revelation) is a cause of sorrow for the Unbelievers.

69:50

وَإِنَّهُ لَحَقُّ الْيَقِينِ

Transliteration

Wa-innahu lahaqqu alyaqeen

Yusuf Ali

But verily it is Truth of assured certainty.

69:51

فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الْعَظِيمِ

Transliteration

Fasabbih bismi rabbika alAAatheem

Yusuf Ali

So glorify the name of thy Lord Most High.

69:52

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Transliteration

Bismi Allahi arrahmani arraheem

Yusuf Ali

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

سَأَلَ سَائِلٌ بِعَذَابٍ وَاقِعٍ

Transliteration

Saala sa-ilun biAAathabin waqiAA

Yusuf Ali

A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall-

70:1

لِلْكَافِرِينَ لَيْسَ لَهُ دَافِعٌ

Transliteration

Lilkafireena laysa lahu dafiAA

Yusuf Ali

The Unbelievers, the which there is none to ward off,-

70:2

مِنَ اللَّهِ ذِي الْمَعَارِجِ

Transliteration

Mina Allahi thee almaAAarij

Yusuf Ali

(A Penalty) from Allah, Lord of the Ways of Ascent.

70:3

تَعْرُجُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ وَالرُّوحُ إِلَيْهِ فِي يَوْمٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ

Transliteration

TaAAruju almala-ikatu warroohuilayhi fee yawmin kana miqdaruhu khamseena alfasana

Yusuf Ali

The angels and the spirit ascend unto him in a Day the measure whereof is (as) fifty thousand years:

70:4

فَاصْبِرْ صَبْرًا جَمِيلًا

Transliteration

Fasbir sabran jameela

Yusuf Ali

Therefore do thou hold Patience,- a Patience of beautiful (contentment).

70:5

إِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَهُ بَعِيدًا

Transliteration

Innahum yarawnahu baAAeeda

Yusuf Ali

They see the (Day) indeed as a far-off (event):

70:6

وَنَرَاهُ قَرِيبًا

Transliteration

Wanarahu qareeba

Yusuf Ali

But We see it (quite) near.

70:7

يَوْمَ تَكُونُ السَّمَاءُ كَالْمُهْلِ

Transliteration

Yawma takoonu assamao kalmuhl

Yusuf Ali

The Day that the sky will be like molten brass,

70:8

وَتَكُونُ الْجِبَالُ كَالْعِهْنِ

Transliteration

Watakoonu aljibalu kalAAihn

Yusuf Ali

And the mountains will be like wool,

70:9

وَلَا يَسْأَلُ حَمِيمٌ حَمِيمًا

Transliteration

Wala yas-alu hameemun hameema

Yusuf Ali

And no friend will ask after a friend,

70:10

يُبَصَّرُونَهُمْ ۚ يَوَدُّ الْمُجْرِمُ لَوْ يَفْتَدِي مِنْ عَذَابِ يَوْمِئِذٍ بِبَنِيهِ

Transliteration

Yubassaroonahum yawaddu almujrimu lawyaftadee min AAathabi yawmi-ithin bibaneeh

Yusuf Ali

Though they will be put in sight of each other,- the sinner's desire will be: Would that he could redeem himself from the Penalty of that Day by (sacrificing) his children,

70:11

وَصَاحِبَتِهِ وَأَخِيهِ

Transliteration

Wasahibatihi waakheeh

Yusuf Ali

His wife and his brother,

70:12

وَفَصِيلَتِهِ الَّتِي تُؤْوِيهِ

Transliteration

Wafaseelatihi allatee tu/weeh

Yusuf Ali

His kindred who sheltered him,

70:13

وَمَنْ فِي الْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا ثُمَّ يُنْجِيهِ

Transliteration

Waman fee al-ardi jameeAAan thummayunjeeh

Yusuf Ali

And all, all that is on earth,- so it could deliver him:

70:14

كَلَّا ۖ إِنَّهَا لَظَىٰ

Transliteration

Kalla innaha latha

Yusuf Ali

By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!-

70:15

نَزَّاعَةً لِلشَّوَىٰ

Transliteration

NazzaAAatan lishshawa

Yusuf Ali

Plucking out (his being) right to the skull!-

70:16

تَدْعُو مَنْ أَدْبَرَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ

Transliteration

TadAAoo man adbara watawalla

Yusuf Ali

Inviting (all) such as turn their backs and turn away their faces (from the Right).

70:17

وَجَمَعَ فَأَوْعَىٰ

Transliteration

WajamaAAa faawAAa

Yusuf Ali

And collect (wealth) and hide it (from use)!

70:18

۞ إِنَّ الْإِنْسَانَ خُلِقَ هَلُوعًا

Transliteration

Inna al-insana khuliqa halooAAa

Yusuf Ali

Truly man was created very impatient;-

70:19

إِذَا مَسَّهُ الشَّرُّ جَزُوعًا

Transliteration

Itha massahu ashsharrujazooAAa

Yusuf Ali

Fretful when evil touches him;

70:20

وَإِذَا مَسَّهُ الْخَيْرُ مَنُوعًا

Transliteration

Wa-itha massahu alkhayru manooAAa

Yusuf Ali

And niggardly when good reaches him;-

70:21

إِلَّا الْمُصَلِّينَ

Transliteration

Illa almusalleen

Yusuf Ali

Not so those devoted to Prayer;-

70:22

الَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ دَائِمُونَ

Transliteration

Allatheena hum AAala salatihimda-imoon

Yusuf Ali

Those who remain steadfast to their prayer;

70:23

وَالَّذِينَ فِي أَمْوَالِهِمْ حَقٌّ مَعْلُومٌ

Transliteration

Wallatheena fee amwalihimhaqqun maAAloom

Yusuf Ali

And those in whose wealth is a recognised right.

70:24

لِلسَّائِلِ وَالْمَحْرُومِ

Transliteration

Lissa-ili walmahroom

Yusuf Ali

For the (needy) who asks and him who is prevented (for some reason from asking);

70:25

وَالَّذِينَ يُصَدِّقُونَ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ

Transliteration

Wallatheena yusaddiqoonabiyawmi addeen

Yusuf Ali

And those who hold to the truth of the Day of Judgment;

70:26

وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ مِنْ عَذَابِ رَبِّهِمْ مُشْفِقُونَ

Transliteration

Wallatheena hum min AAathabirabbihim mushfiqoon

Yusuf Ali

And those who fear the displeasure of their Lord,-

70:27

إِنَّ عَذَابَ رَبِّهِمْ غَيْرُ مَأْمُونٍ

Transliteration

Inna AAathaba rabbihim ghayru ma/moon

Yusuf Ali

For their Lord's displeasure is the opposite of Peace and Tranquillity;-

70:28

وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَافِظُونَ

Transliteration

Wallatheena hum lifuroojihim hafithoon

Yusuf Ali

And those who guard their chastity,

70:29

إِلَّا عَلَىٰ أَزْوَاجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ

Transliteration

Illa AAala azwajihim awma malakat aymanuhum fa-innahum ghayru maloomeen

Yusuf Ali

Except with their wives and the (captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (then) they are not to be blamed,

70:30

فَمَنِ ابْتَغَىٰ وَرَاءَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْعَادُونَ

Transliteration

Famani ibtagha waraa thalikafaola-ika humu alAAadoon

Yusuf Ali

But those who trespass beyond this are transgressors;-

70:31

وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِأَمَانَاتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَاعُونَ

Transliteration

Wallatheena hum li-amanatihimwaAAahdihim raAAoon

Yusuf Ali

And those who respect their trusts and covenants;

70:32

وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ بِشَهَادَاتِهِمْ قَائِمُونَ

Transliteration

Wallatheena hum bishahadatihimqa-imoon

Yusuf Ali

And those who stand firm in their testimonies;

70:33

وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَاتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَ

Transliteration

Wallatheena hum AAala salatihimyuhafithoon

Yusuf Ali

And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;-

70:34

أُولَٰئِكَ فِي جَنَّاتٍ مُكْرَمُونَ

Transliteration

Ola-ika fee jannatin mukramoon

Yusuf Ali

Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss).

70:35

فَمَالِ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا قِبَلَكَ مُهْطِعِينَ

Transliteration

Famali allatheena kafarooqibalaka muhtiAAeen

Yusuf Ali

Now what is the matter with the Unbelievers that they rush madly before thee-

70:36

عَنِ الْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ الشِّمَالِ عِزِينَ

Transliteration

AAani alyameeni waAAani ashshimaliAAizeen

Yusuf Ali

From the right and from the left, in crowds?

70:37

أَيَطْمَعُ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ مِنْهُمْ أَنْ يُدْخَلَ جَنَّةَ نَعِيمٍ

Transliteration

AyatmaAAu kullu imri-in minhum anyudkhala jannata naAAeem

Yusuf Ali

Does every man of them long to enter the Garden of Bliss?

70:38

كَلَّا ۖ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَاهُمْ مِمَّا يَعْلَمُونَ

Transliteration

Kalla inna khalaqnahummimma yaAAlamoon

Yusuf Ali

By no means! For We have created them out of the (base matter) they know!

70:39

فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِرَبِّ الْمَشَارِقِ وَالْمَغَارِبِ إِنَّا لَقَادِرُونَ

Transliteration

Fala oqsimu birabbi almashariqiwalmagharibi inna laqadiroon

Yusuf Ali

Now I do call to witness the Lord of all points in the East and the West that We can certainly-

70:40

عَلَىٰ أَنْ نُبَدِّلَ خَيْرًا مِنْهُمْ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ

Transliteration

AAala an nubaddila khayran minhum wamanahnu bimasbooqeen

Yusuf Ali

Substitute for them better (men) than they; And We are not to be defeated (in Our Plan).

70:41

فَذَرْهُمْ يَخُوضُوا وَيَلْعَبُوا حَتَّىٰ يُلَاقُوا يَوْمَهُمُ الَّذِي يُوعَدُونَ

Transliteration

Fatharhum yakhoodoowayalAAaboo hatta yulaqoo yawmahumu allatheeyooAAadoon

Yusuf Ali

So leave them to plunge in vain talk and play about, until they encounter that Day of theirs which they have been promised!-

70:42

يَوْمَ يَخْرُجُونَ مِنَ الْأَجْدَاثِ سِرَاعًا كَأَنَّهُمْ إِلَىٰ نُصُبٍ يُوفِضُونَ

Transliteration

Yawma yakhrujoona mina al-ajdathi siraAAankaannahum ila nusubin yoofidoon

Yusuf Ali

The Day whereon they will issue from their sepulchres in sudden haste as if they were rushing to a goal-post (fixed for them),-

70:43

خَاشِعَةً أَبْصَارُهُمْ تَرْهَقُهُمْ ذِلَّةٌ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ الْيَوْمُ الَّذِي كَانُوا يُوعَدُونَ

Transliteration

KhashiAAatan absaruhumtarhaquhum thillatun thalika alyawmu allatheekanoo yooAAadoon

Yusuf Ali

Their eyes lowered in dejection,- ignominy covering them (all over)! such is the Day the which they are promised!

70:44

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Transliteration

Bismi Allahi arrahmani arraheem

Yusuf Ali

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوْمِهِ أَنْ أَنْذِرْ قَوْمَكَ مِنْ قَبْلِ أَنْ يَأْتِيَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ

Transliteration

Inna arsalna noohan ilaqawmihi an anthir qawmaka min qabli an ya/tiyahum AAathabunaleem

Yusuf Ali

We sent Noah to his People (with the Command): "Do thou warn thy People before there comes to them a grievous Penalty."

71:1

قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ إِنِّي لَكُمْ نَذِيرٌ مُبِينٌ

Transliteration

Qala ya qawmi innee lakum natheerunmubeen

Yusuf Ali

He said: "O my People! I am to you a Warner, clear and open:

71:2

أَنِ اعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ وَاتَّقُوهُ وَأَطِيعُونِ

Transliteration

Ani oAAbudoo Allaha wattaqoohuwaateeAAoon

Yusuf Ali

"That ye should worship Allah, fear Him and obey me:

71:3

يَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ مِنْ ذُنُوبِكُمْ وَيُؤَخِّرْكُمْ إِلَىٰ أَجَلٍ مُسَمًّى ۚ إِنَّ أَجَلَ اللَّهِ إِذَا جَاءَ لَا يُؤَخَّرُ ۖ لَوْ كُنْتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ

Transliteration

Yaghfir lakum min thunoobikumwayu-akhkhirkum ila ajalin musamman inna ajala Allahiitha jaa la yu-akhkharu law kuntumtaAAlamoon

Yusuf Ali

"So He may forgive you your sins and give you respite for a stated Term: for when the Term given by Allah is accomplished, it cannot be put forward: if ye only knew."

71:4

قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّي دَعَوْتُ قَوْمِي لَيْلًا وَنَهَارًا

Transliteration

Qala rabbi innee daAAawtu qawmeelaylan wanahara

Yusuf Ali

He said: "O my Lord! I have called to my People night and day:

71:5

فَلَمْ يَزِدْهُمْ دُعَائِي إِلَّا فِرَارًا

Transliteration

Falam yazidhum duAAa-ee illafirara

Yusuf Ali

"But my call only increases (their) flight (from the Right).

71:6

وَإِنِّي كُلَّمَا دَعَوْتُهُمْ لِتَغْفِرَ لَهُمْ جَعَلُوا أَصَابِعَهُمْ فِي آذَانِهِمْ وَاسْتَغْشَوْا ثِيَابَهُمْ وَأَصَرُّوا وَاسْتَكْبَرُوا اسْتِكْبَارًا

Transliteration

Wa-innee kullama daAAawtuhumlitaghfira lahum jaAAaloo asabiAAahum fee athanihimwastaghshaw thiyabahum waasarroo wastakbarooistikbara

Yusuf Ali

"And every time I have called to them, that Thou mightest forgive them, they have (only) thrust their fingers into their ears, covered themselves up with their garments, grown obstinate, and given themselves up to arrogance.

71:7

ثُمَّ إِنِّي دَعَوْتُهُمْ جِهَارًا

Transliteration

Thumma innee daAAawtuhum jihara

Yusuf Ali

"So I have called to them aloud;

71:8

ثُمَّ إِنِّي أَعْلَنْتُ لَهُمْ وَأَسْرَرْتُ لَهُمْ إِسْرَارًا

Transliteration

Thumma innee aAAlantu lahum waasrartu lahumisrara

Yusuf Ali

"Further I have spoken to them in public and secretly in private,

71:9

فَقُلْتُ اسْتَغْفِرُوا رَبَّكُمْ إِنَّهُ كَانَ غَفَّارًا

Transliteration

Faqultu istaghfiroo rabbakum innahu kanaghaffara

Yusuf Ali

"Saying, 'Ask forgiveness from your Lord; for He is Oft-Forgiving;

71:10

يُرْسِلِ السَّمَاءَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِدْرَارًا

Transliteration

Yursili assamaa AAalaykummidrara

Yusuf Ali

"'He will send rain to you in abundance;

71:11

وَيُمْدِدْكُمْ بِأَمْوَالٍ وَبَنِينَ وَيَجْعَلْ لَكُمْ جَنَّاتٍ وَيَجْعَلْ لَكُمْ أَنْهَارًا

Transliteration

Wayumdidkum bi-amwalin wabaneenawayajAAal lakum jannatin wayajAAal lakum anhara

Yusuf Ali

"'Give you increase in wealth and sons; and bestow on you gardens and bestow on you rivers (of flowing water).

71:12

مَا لَكُمْ لَا تَرْجُونَ لِلَّهِ وَقَارًا

Transliteration

Ma lakum la tarjoona lillahiwaqara

Yusuf Ali

"'What is the matter with you, that ye place not your hope for kindness and long-suffering in Allah,-

71:13

وَقَدْ خَلَقَكُمْ أَطْوَارًا

Transliteration

Waqad khalaqakum atwara

Yusuf Ali

"'Seeing that it is He that has created you in diverse stages?

71:14

أَلَمْ تَرَوْا كَيْفَ خَلَقَ اللَّهُ سَبْعَ سَمَاوَاتٍ طِبَاقًا

Transliteration

Alam taraw kayfa khalaqa AllahusabAAa samawatin tibaqa

Yusuf Ali

"'See ye not how Allah has created the seven heavens one above another,

71:15

وَجَعَلَ الْقَمَرَ فِيهِنَّ نُورًا وَجَعَلَ الشَّمْسَ سِرَاجًا

Transliteration

WajaAAala alqamara feehinna nooran wajaAAalaashshamsa siraja

Yusuf Ali

"'And made the moon a light in their midst, and made the sun as a (Glorious) Lamp?

71:16

وَاللَّهُ أَنْبَتَكُمْ مِنَ الْأَرْضِ نَبَاتًا

Transliteration

Wallahu anbatakum mina al-ardinabata

Yusuf Ali

"'And Allah has produced you from the earth growing (gradually),

71:17

ثُمَّ يُعِيدُكُمْ فِيهَا وَيُخْرِجُكُمْ إِخْرَاجًا

Transliteration

Thumma yuAAeedukum feehawayukhrijukum ikhraja

Yusuf Ali

"'And in the End He will return you into the (earth), and raise you forth (again at the Resurrection)?

71:18

وَاللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُمُ الْأَرْضَ بِسَاطًا

Transliteration

Wallahu jaAAala lakumu al-ardabisata

Yusuf Ali

"'And Allah has made the earth for you as a carpet (spread out),

71:19

لِتَسْلُكُوا مِنْهَا سُبُلًا فِجَاجًا

Transliteration

Litaslukoo minha subulan fijaja

Yusuf Ali

"'That ye may go about therein, in spacious roads.'"

71:20

قَالَ نُوحٌ رَبِّ إِنَّهُمْ عَصَوْنِي وَاتَّبَعُوا مَنْ لَمْ يَزِدْهُ مَالُهُ وَوَلَدُهُ إِلَّا خَسَارًا

Transliteration

Qala noohun rabbi innahum AAasawneewattabaAAoo man lam yazidhu maluhu wawaladuhu illakhasara

Yusuf Ali

Noah said: "O my Lord! They have disobeyed me, but they follow (men) whose wealth and children give them no increase but only Loss.

71:21

وَمَكَرُوا مَكْرًا كُبَّارًا

Transliteration

Wamakaroo makran kubbara

Yusuf Ali

"And they have devised a tremendous Plot.

71:22

وَقَالُوا لَا تَذَرُنَّ آلِهَتَكُمْ وَلَا تَذَرُنَّ وَدًّا وَلَا سُوَاعًا وَلَا يَغُوثَ وَيَعُوقَ وَنَسْرًا

Transliteration

Waqaloo la tatharunna alihatakumwala tatharunna waddan wala suwaAAanwala yaghootha wayaAAooqa wanasra

Yusuf Ali

"And they have said (to each other), 'Abandon not your gods: Abandon neither Wadd nor Suwa', neither Yaguth nor Ya'uq, nor Nasr';-

71:23

وَقَدْ أَضَلُّوا كَثِيرًا ۖ وَلَا تَزِدِ الظَّالِمِينَ إِلَّا ضَلَالًا

Transliteration

Waqad adalloo katheeran walatazidi aththalimeena illa dalala

Yusuf Ali

"They have already misled many; and grant Thou no increase to the wrong-doers but in straying (from their mark)."

71:24

مِمَّا خَطِيئَاتِهِمْ أُغْرِقُوا فَأُدْخِلُوا نَارًا فَلَمْ يَجِدُوا لَهُمْ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ أَنْصَارًا

Transliteration

Mimma khatee-atihimoghriqoo faodkhiloo naran falam yajidoo lahum min dooniAllahi ansara

Yusuf Ali

Because of their sins they were drowned (in the flood), and were made to enter the Fire (of Punishment): and they found- in lieu of Allah- none to help them.

71:25

وَقَالَ نُوحٌ رَبِّ لَا تَذَرْ عَلَى الْأَرْضِ مِنَ الْكَافِرِينَ دَيَّارًا

Transliteration

Waqala noohun rabbi latathar AAala al-ardi mina alkafireenadayyara

Yusuf Ali

And Noah, said: "O my Lord! Leave not of the Unbelievers, a single one on earth!

71:26

إِنَّكَ إِنْ تَذَرْهُمْ يُضِلُّوا عِبَادَكَ وَلَا يَلِدُوا إِلَّا فَاجِرًا كَفَّارًا

Transliteration

Innaka in tatharhum yudillooAAibadaka wala yalidoo illa fajirankaffara

Yusuf Ali

"For, if Thou dost leave (any of) them, they will but mislead Thy devotees, and they will breed none but wicked ungrateful ones.

71:27

رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَلِوَالِدَيَّ وَلِمَنْ دَخَلَ بَيْتِيَ مُؤْمِنًا وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ وَلَا تَزِدِ الظَّالِمِينَ إِلَّا تَبَارًا

Transliteration

Rabbi ighfir lee waliwalidayyawaliman dakhala baytiya mu/minan walilmu/mineena walmu/minatiwala tazidi aththalimeena illatabaran

Yusuf Ali

"O my Lord! Forgive me, my parents, all who enter my house in Faith, and (all) believing men and believing women: and to the wrong-doers grant Thou no increase but in perdition!"

71:28

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Transliteration

Bismi Allahi arrahmani arraheem

Yusuf Ali

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

قُلْ أُوحِيَ إِلَيَّ أَنَّهُ اسْتَمَعَ نَفَرٌ مِنَ الْجِنِّ فَقَالُوا إِنَّا سَمِعْنَا قُرْآنًا عَجَبًا

Transliteration

Qul oohiya ilayya annahu istamaAAanafarun mina aljinni faqaloo inna samiAAnaqur-anan AAajaba

Yusuf Ali

Say: It has been revealed to me that a company of Jinns listened (to the Qur'an). They said, 'We have really heard a wonderful Recital!

72:1

يَهْدِي إِلَى الرُّشْدِ فَآمَنَّا بِهِ ۖ وَلَنْ نُشْرِكَ بِرَبِّنَا أَحَدًا

Transliteration

Yahdee ila arrushdi faamannabihi walan nushrika birabbina ahada

Yusuf Ali

'It gives guidance to the Right, and we have believed therein: we shall not join (in worship) any (gods) with our Lord.

72:2

وَأَنَّهُ تَعَالَىٰ جَدُّ رَبِّنَا مَا اتَّخَذَ صَاحِبَةً وَلَا وَلَدًا

Transliteration

Waannahu taAAala jaddu rabbinama ittakhatha sahibatan wala walada

Yusuf Ali

'And Exalted is the Majesty of our Lord: He has taken neither a wife nor a son.

72:3

وَأَنَّهُ كَانَ يَقُولُ سَفِيهُنَا عَلَى اللَّهِ شَطَطًا

Transliteration

Waannahu kana yaqoolu safeehunaAAala Allahi shatata

Yusuf Ali

'There were some foolish ones among us, who used to utter extravagant lies against Allah;

72:4

وَأَنَّا ظَنَنَّا أَنْ لَنْ تَقُولَ الْإِنْسُ وَالْجِنُّ عَلَى اللَّهِ كَذِبًا

Transliteration

Waanna thanannaan lan taqoola al-insu waljinnu AAala Allahikathiba

Yusuf Ali

'But we do think that no man or spirit should say aught that untrue against Allah.

72:5

وَأَنَّهُ كَانَ رِجَالٌ مِنَ الْإِنْسِ يَعُوذُونَ بِرِجَالٍ مِنَ الْجِنِّ فَزَادُوهُمْ رَهَقًا

Transliteration

Waannahu kana rijalun minaal-insi yaAAoothoona birijalin mina aljinni fazadoohumrahaqa

Yusuf Ali

'True, there were persons among mankind who took shelter with persons among the Jinns, but they increased them in folly.

72:6

وَأَنَّهُمْ ظَنُّوا كَمَا ظَنَنْتُمْ أَنْ لَنْ يَبْعَثَ اللَّهُ أَحَدًا

Transliteration

Waannahum thannoo kama thanantuman lan yabAAatha Allahu ahada

Yusuf Ali

'And they (came to) think as ye thought, that Allah would not raise up any one (to Judgment).

72:7

وَأَنَّا لَمَسْنَا السَّمَاءَ فَوَجَدْنَاهَا مُلِئَتْ حَرَسًا شَدِيدًا وَشُهُبًا

Transliteration

Waanna lamasna assamaafawajadnaha muli-at harasan shadeedanwashuhuba

Yusuf Ali

'And we pried into the secrets of heaven; but we found it filled with stern guards and flaming fires.

72:8

وَأَنَّا كُنَّا نَقْعُدُ مِنْهَا مَقَاعِدَ لِلسَّمْعِ ۖ فَمَنْ يَسْتَمِعِ الْآنَ يَجِدْ لَهُ شِهَابًا رَصَدًا

Transliteration

Waanna kunna naqAAudu minhamaqaAAida lissamAAi faman yastamiAAi al-anayajid lahu shihaban rasada

Yusuf Ali

'We used, indeed, to sit there in (hidden) stations, to (steal) a hearing; but any who listen now will find a flaming fire watching him in ambush.

72:9

وَأَنَّا لَا نَدْرِي أَشَرٌّ أُرِيدَ بِمَنْ فِي الْأَرْضِ أَمْ أَرَادَ بِهِمْ رَبُّهُمْ رَشَدًا

Transliteration

Waanna la nadree asharrunoreeda biman fee al-ardi am arada bihim rabbuhumrashada

Yusuf Ali

'And we understand not whether ill is intended to those on earth, or whether their Lord (really) intends to guide them to right conduct.

72:10

وَأَنَّا مِنَّا الصَّالِحُونَ وَمِنَّا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ ۖ كُنَّا طَرَائِقَ قِدَدًا

Transliteration

Waanna minna assalihoonawaminna doona thalika kunna tara-iqaqidada

Yusuf Ali

'There are among us some that are righteous, and some the contrary: we follow divergent paths.

72:11

وَأَنَّا ظَنَنَّا أَنْ لَنْ نُعْجِزَ اللَّهَ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَنْ نُعْجِزَهُ هَرَبًا

Transliteration

Wanna thanannaan lan nuAAjiza Allaha fee al-ardi walan nuAAjizahuharaba

Yusuf Ali

'But we think that we can by no means frustrate Allah throughout the earth, nor can we frustrate Him by flight.

72:12

وَأَنَّا لَمَّا سَمِعْنَا الْهُدَىٰ آمَنَّا بِهِ ۖ فَمَنْ يُؤْمِنْ بِرَبِّهِ فَلَا يَخَافُ بَخْسًا وَلَا رَهَقًا

Transliteration

Waanna lamma samiAAnaalhuda amanna bihi faman yu/min birabbihifala yakhafu bakhsan wala rahaqa

Yusuf Ali

'And as for us, since we have listened to the Guidance, we have accepted it: and any who believes in his Lord has no fear, either of a short (account) or of any injustice.

72:13

وَأَنَّا مِنَّا الْمُسْلِمُونَ وَمِنَّا الْقَاسِطُونَ ۖ فَمَنْ أَسْلَمَ فَأُولَٰئِكَ تَحَرَّوْا رَشَدًا

Transliteration

Waanna minna almuslimoonawaminna alqasitoona faman aslama faola-ikataharraw rashada

Yusuf Ali

'Amongst us are some that submit their wills (to Allah), and some that swerve from justice. Now those who submit their wills - they have sought out (the path) of right conduct:

72:14

وَأَمَّا الْقَاسِطُونَ فَكَانُوا لِجَهَنَّمَ حَطَبًا

Transliteration

Waama alqasitoona fakanoolijahannama hataba

Yusuf Ali

'But those who swerve,- they are (but) fuel for Hell-fire'-

72:15

وَأَنْ لَوِ اسْتَقَامُوا عَلَى الطَّرِيقَةِ لَأَسْقَيْنَاهُمْ مَاءً غَدَقًا

Transliteration

Waallawi istaqamoo AAala attareeqatilaasqaynahum maan ghadaqa

Yusuf Ali

(And Allah's Message is): "If they (the Pagans) had (only) remained on the (right) Way, We should certainly have bestowed on them Rain in abundance.

72:16

لِنَفْتِنَهُمْ فِيهِ ۚ وَمَنْ يُعْرِضْ عَنْ ذِكْرِ رَبِّهِ يَسْلُكْهُ عَذَابًا صَعَدًا

Transliteration

Linaftinahum feehi waman yuAArid AAanthikri rabbihi yasluk-hu AAathaban saAAada

Yusuf Ali

"That We might try them by that (means). But if any turns away from the remembrance of his Lord, He will cause him to undergo a severe Penalty.

72:17

وَأَنَّ الْمَسَاجِدَ لِلَّهِ فَلَا تَدْعُوا مَعَ اللَّهِ أَحَدًا

Transliteration

Waanna almasajida lillahi falatadAAoo maAAa Allahi ahada

Yusuf Ali

"And the places of worship are for Allah (alone): So invoke not any one along with Allah;

72:18

وَأَنَّهُ لَمَّا قَامَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ يَدْعُوهُ كَادُوا يَكُونُونَ عَلَيْهِ لِبَدًا

Transliteration

Waannahu lamma qama AAabdu AllahiyadAAoohu kadoo yakoonoona AAalayhi libada

Yusuf Ali

"Yet when the Devotee of Allah stands forth to invoke Him, they just make round him a dense crowd."

72:19

قُلْ إِنَّمَا أَدْعُو رَبِّي وَلَا أُشْرِكُ بِهِ أَحَدًا

Transliteration

Qul innama adAAoo rabbee walaoshriku bihi ahada

Yusuf Ali

Say: "I do no more than invoke my Lord, and I join not with Him any (false god)."

72:20

قُلْ إِنِّي لَا أَمْلِكُ لَكُمْ ضَرًّا وَلَا رَشَدًا

Transliteration

Qul innee la amliku lakum darranwala rashada

Yusuf Ali

Say: "It is not in my power to cause you harm, or to bring you to right conduct."

72:21

قُلْ إِنِّي لَنْ يُجِيرَنِي مِنَ اللَّهِ أَحَدٌ وَلَنْ أَجِدَ مِنْ دُونِهِ مُلْتَحَدًا

Transliteration

Qul innee lan yujeeranee mina Allahiahadun walan ajida min doonihi multahada

Yusuf Ali

Say: "No one can deliver me from Allah (If I were to disobey Him), nor should I find refuge except in Him,

72:22

إِلَّا بَلَاغًا مِنَ اللَّهِ وَرِسَالَاتِهِ ۚ وَمَنْ يَعْصِ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ فَإِنَّ لَهُ نَارَ جَهَنَّمَ خَالِدِينَ فِيهَا أَبَدًا

Transliteration

Illa balaghan mina Allahiwarisalatihi waman yaAAsi Allahawarasoolahu fa-inna lahu nara jahannama khalideenafeeha abada

Yusuf Ali

"Unless I proclaim what I receive from Allah and His Messages: for any that disobey Allah and His Messenger,- for them is Hell: they shall dwell therein for ever."

72:23

حَتَّىٰ إِذَا رَأَوْا مَا يُوعَدُونَ فَسَيَعْلَمُونَ مَنْ أَضْعَفُ نَاصِرًا وَأَقَلُّ عَدَدًا

Transliteration

Hatta itha raaw mayooAAadoona fasayaAAlamoona man adAAafu nasiranwaaqallu AAadada

Yusuf Ali

At length, when they see (with their own eyes) that which they are promised,- then will they know who it is that is weakest in (his) helper and least important in point of numbers.

72:24

قُلْ إِنْ أَدْرِي أَقَرِيبٌ مَا تُوعَدُونَ أَمْ يَجْعَلُ لَهُ رَبِّي أَمَدًا

Transliteration

Qul in adree aqareebun ma tooAAadoonaam yajAAalu lahu rabbee amada

Yusuf Ali

Say: "I know not whether the (Punishment) which ye are promised is near, or whether my Lord will appoint for it a distant term.

72:25

عَالِمُ الْغَيْبِ فَلَا يُظْهِرُ عَلَىٰ غَيْبِهِ أَحَدًا

Transliteration

AAalimu alghaybi fala yuthhiruAAala ghaybihi ahada

Yusuf Ali

"He (alone) knows the Unseen, nor does He make any one acquainted with His Mysteries,-

72:26

إِلَّا مَنِ ارْتَضَىٰ مِنْ رَسُولٍ فَإِنَّهُ يَسْلُكُ مِنْ بَيْنِ يَدَيْهِ وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِ رَصَدًا

Transliteration

Illa mani irtada min rasoolinfa-innahu yasluku min bayni yadayhi wamin khalfihi rasada

Yusuf Ali

"Except a messenger whom He has chosen: and then He makes a band of watchers march before him and behind him,

72:27

لِيَعْلَمَ أَنْ قَدْ أَبْلَغُوا رِسَالَاتِ رَبِّهِمْ وَأَحَاطَ بِمَا لَدَيْهِمْ وَأَحْصَىٰ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ عَدَدًا

Transliteration

LiyaAAlama an qad ablaghoo risalatirabbihim waahata bima ladayhim waahsa kullashay-in AAadada

Yusuf Ali

"That He may know that they have (truly) brought and delivered the Messages of their Lord: and He surrounds (all the mysteries) that are with them, and takes account of every single thing."

72:28

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Transliteration

Bismi Allahi arrahmani arraheem

Yusuf Ali

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

يَا أَيُّهَا الْمُزَّمِّلُ

Transliteration

Ya ayyuha almuzzammil

Yusuf Ali

O thou folded in garments!

73:1

قُمِ اللَّيْلَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا

Transliteration

Qumi allayla illa qaleela

Yusuf Ali

Stand (to prayer) by night, but not all night,-

73:2

نِصْفَهُ أَوِ انْقُصْ مِنْهُ قَلِيلًا

Transliteration

Nisfahu awi onqus minhu qaleela

Yusuf Ali

Half of it,- or a little less,

73:3

أَوْ زِدْ عَلَيْهِ وَرَتِّلِ الْقُرْآنَ تَرْتِيلًا

Transliteration

Aw zid AAalayhi warattili alqur-anatarteela

Yusuf Ali

Or a little more; and recite the Qur'an in slow, measured rhythmic tones.

73:4

إِنَّا سَنُلْقِي عَلَيْكَ قَوْلًا ثَقِيلًا

Transliteration

Inna sanulqee AAalayka qawlan thaqeela

Yusuf Ali

Soon shall We send down to thee a weighty Message.

73:5

إِنَّ نَاشِئَةَ اللَّيْلِ هِيَ أَشَدُّ وَطْئًا وَأَقْوَمُ قِيلًا

Transliteration

Inna nashi-ata allayli hiya ashaddu wat-anwaaqwamu qeela

Yusuf Ali

Truly the rising by night is most potent for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (framing) the Word (of Prayer and Praise).

73:6

إِنَّ لَكَ فِي النَّهَارِ سَبْحًا طَوِيلًا

Transliteration

Inna laka fee annahari sabhantaweela

Yusuf Ali

True, there is for thee by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties:

73:7

وَاذْكُرِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ وَتَبَتَّلْ إِلَيْهِ تَبْتِيلًا

Transliteration

Wathkuri isma rabbikawatabattal ilayhi tabteela

Yusuf Ali

But keep in remembrance the name of thy Lord and devote thyself to Him whole-heartedly.

73:8

رَبُّ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ فَاتَّخِذْهُ وَكِيلًا

Transliteration

Rabbu almashriqi walmaghribi lailaha illa huwa fattakhithhu wakeela

Yusuf Ali

(He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs.

73:9

وَاصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ وَاهْجُرْهُمْ هَجْرًا جَمِيلًا

Transliteration

Wasbir AAala mayaqooloona wahjurhum hajran jameela

Yusuf Ali

And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity).

73:10

وَذَرْنِي وَالْمُكَذِّبِينَ أُولِي النَّعْمَةِ وَمَهِّلْهُمْ قَلِيلًا

Transliteration

Watharnee walmukaththibeenaolee annaAAmati wamahhilhum qaleela

Yusuf Ali

And leave Me (alone to deal with) those in possession of the good things of life, who (yet) deny the Truth; and bear with them for a little while.

73:11

إِنَّ لَدَيْنَا أَنْكَالًا وَجَحِيمًا

Transliteration

Inna ladayna ankalan wajaheema

Yusuf Ali

With Us are Fetters (to bind them), and a Fire (to burn them),

73:12

وَطَعَامًا ذَا غُصَّةٍ وَعَذَابًا أَلِيمًا

Transliteration

WataAAaman tha ghussatinwaAAathaban aleema

Yusuf Ali

And a Food that chokes, and a Penalty Grievous.

73:13

يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ الْأَرْضُ وَالْجِبَالُ وَكَانَتِ الْجِبَالُ كَثِيبًا مَهِيلًا

Transliteration

Yawma tarjufu al-ardu waljibaluwakanati aljibalu katheeban maheela

Yusuf Ali

One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down.

73:14

إِنَّا أَرْسَلْنَا إِلَيْكُمْ رَسُولًا شَاهِدًا عَلَيْكُمْ كَمَا أَرْسَلْنَا إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ رَسُولًا

Transliteration

Inna arsalna ilaykum rasoolanshahidan AAalaykum kama arsalna ilafirAAawna rasoola

Yusuf Ali

We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh.

73:15

فَعَصَىٰ فِرْعَوْنُ الرَّسُولَ فَأَخَذْنَاهُ أَخْذًا وَبِيلًا

Transliteration

FaAAasa firAAawnu arrasoolafaakhathnahu akhthan wabeela

Yusuf Ali

But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger; so We seized him with a heavy Punishment.

73:16

فَكَيْفَ تَتَّقُونَ إِنْ كَفَرْتُمْ يَوْمًا يَجْعَلُ الْوِلْدَانَ شِيبًا

Transliteration

Fakayfa tattaqoona in kafartum yawmanyajAAalu alwildana sheeba

Yusuf Ali

Then how shall ye, if ye deny (Allah), guard yourselves against a Day that will make children hoary-headed?-

73:17

السَّمَاءُ مُنْفَطِرٌ بِهِ ۚ كَانَ وَعْدُهُ مَفْعُولًا

Transliteration

Assamao munfatirunbihi kana waAAduhu mafAAoola

Yusuf Ali

Whereon the sky will be cleft asunder? His Promise needs must be accomplished.

73:18

إِنَّ هَٰذِهِ تَذْكِرَةٌ ۖ فَمَنْ شَاءَ اتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِ سَبِيلًا

Transliteration

Inna hathihi tathkiratun famanshaa ittakhatha ila rabbihi sabeela

Yusuf Ali

Verily this is an Admonition: therefore, whoso will, let him take a (straight) path to his Lord!

73:19

۞ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ تَقُومُ أَدْنَىٰ مِنْ ثُلُثَيِ اللَّيْلِ وَنِصْفَهُ وَثُلُثَهُ وَطَائِفَةٌ مِنَ الَّذِينَ مَعَكَ ۚ وَاللَّهُ يُقَدِّرُ اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ ۚ عَلِمَ أَنْ لَنْ تُحْصُوهُ فَتَابَ عَلَيْكُمْ ۖ فَاقْرَءُوا مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ ۚ عَلِمَ أَنْ سَيَكُونُ مِنْكُمْ مَرْضَىٰ ۙ وَآخَرُونَ يَضْرِبُونَ فِي الْأَرْضِ يَبْتَغُونَ مِنْ فَضْلِ اللَّهِ ۙ وَآخَرُونَ يُقَاتِلُونَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ ۖ فَاقْرَءُوا مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنْهُ ۚ وَأَقِيمُوا الصَّلَاةَ وَآتُوا الزَّكَاةَ وَأَقْرِضُوا اللَّهَ قَرْضًا حَسَنًا ۚ وَمَا تُقَدِّمُوا لِأَنْفُسِكُمْ مِنْ خَيْرٍ تَجِدُوهُ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ هُوَ خَيْرًا وَأَعْظَمَ أَجْرًا ۚ وَاسْتَغْفِرُوا اللَّهَ ۖ إِنَّ اللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ

Transliteration

Inna rabbaka yaAAlamu annaka taqoomu adnamin thuluthayi allayli wanisfahu wathuluthahu wata-ifatunmina allatheena maAAaka wallahu yuqaddiruallayla wannahara AAalima an lan tuhsoohufataba AAalaykum faqraoo ma tayassara minaalqur-ani AAalima an sayakoonu minkum marda waakharoonayadriboona fee al-ardi yabtaghoona min fadliAllahi waakharoona yuqatiloona fee sabeeliAllahi faqraoo ma tayassara minhu waaqeemooassalata waatoo azzakatawaaqridoo Allaha qardan hasanan wamatuqaddimoo li-anfusikum min khayrin tajidoohu AAinda Allahihuwa khayran waaAAthama ajran wastaghfirooAllaha inna Allaha ghafoorun raheem

Yusuf Ali

Thy Lord doth know that thou standest forth (to prayer) nigh two-thirds of the night, or half the night, or a third of the night, and so doth a party of those with thee. But Allah doth appoint night and day in due measure He knoweth that ye are unable to keep count thereof. So He hath turned to you (in mercy): read ye, therefore, of the Qur'an as much as may be easy for you. He knoweth that there may be (some) among you in ill-health; others travelling through the land, seeking of Allah's bounty; yet others fighting in Allah's Cause, read ye, therefore, as much of the Qur'an as may be easy (for you); and establish regular Prayer and give regular Charity; and loan to Allah a Beautiful Loan. And whatever good ye send forth for your souls ye shall find it in Allah's Presence,- yea, better and greater, in Reward and seek ye the Grace of Allah: for Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

73:20

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Transliteration

Bismi Allahi arrahmani arraheem

Yusuf Ali

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

يَا أَيُّهَا الْمُدَّثِّرُ

Transliteration

Ya ayyuha almuddaththir

Yusuf Ali

O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)!

74:1

قُمْ فَأَنْذِرْ

Transliteration

Qum faanthir

Yusuf Ali

Arise and deliver thy warning!

74:2

وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرْ

Transliteration

Warabbaka fakabbir

Yusuf Ali

And thy Lord do thou magnify!

74:3

وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرْ

Transliteration

Wathiyabaka fatahhir

Yusuf Ali

And thy garments keep free from stain!

74:4

وَالرُّجْزَ فَاهْجُرْ

Transliteration

Warrujza fahjur

Yusuf Ali

And all abomination shun!

74:5

وَلَا تَمْنُنْ تَسْتَكْثِرُ

Transliteration

Wala tamnun tastakthir

Yusuf Ali

Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)!

74:6

وَلِرَبِّكَ فَاصْبِرْ

Transliteration

Walirabbika fasbir

Yusuf Ali

But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant!

74:7

فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِي النَّاقُورِ

Transliteration

Fa-itha nuqira fee annaqoor

Yusuf Ali

Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded,

74:8

فَذَٰلِكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَوْمٌ عَسِيرٌ

Transliteration

Fathalika yawma-ithin yawmunAAaseer

Yusuf Ali

That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,-

74:9

عَلَى الْكَافِرِينَ غَيْرُ يَسِيرٍ

Transliteration

AAala alkafireena ghayruyaseer

Yusuf Ali

Far from easy for those without Faith.

74:10

ذَرْنِي وَمَنْ خَلَقْتُ وَحِيدًا

Transliteration

Tharnee waman khalaqtu waheeda

Yusuf Ali

Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!-

74:11

وَجَعَلْتُ لَهُ مَالًا مَمْدُودًا

Transliteration

WajaAAaltu lahu malan mamdooda

Yusuf Ali

To whom I granted resources in abundance,

74:12

وَبَنِينَ شُهُودًا

Transliteration

Wabaneena shuhooda

Yusuf Ali

And sons to be by his side!-

74:13

وَمَهَّدْتُ لَهُ تَمْهِيدًا

Transliteration

Wamahhadtu lahu tamheeda

Yusuf Ali

To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable!

74:14

ثُمَّ يَطْمَعُ أَنْ أَزِيدَ

Transliteration

Thumma yatmaAAu an azeed

Yusuf Ali

Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);-

74:15

كَلَّا ۖ إِنَّهُ كَانَ لِآيَاتِنَا عَنِيدًا

Transliteration

Kalla innahu kana li-ayatinaAAaneeda

Yusuf Ali

By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory!

74:16

سَأُرْهِقُهُ صَعُودًا

Transliteration

Saorhiquhu saAAooda

Yusuf Ali

Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities!

74:17

إِنَّهُ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ

Transliteration

Innahu fakkara waqaddar

Yusuf Ali

For he thought and he plotted;-

74:18

فَقُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ

Transliteration

Faqutila kayfa qaddar

Yusuf Ali

And woe to him! How he plotted!-

74:19

ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ

Transliteration

Thumma qutila kayfa qaddar

Yusuf Ali

Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!-

74:20

ثُمَّ نَظَرَ

Transliteration

Thumma nathar

Yusuf Ali

Then he looked round;

74:21

ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ

Transliteration

Thumma AAabasa wabasar

Yusuf Ali

Then he frowned and he scowled;

74:22

ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ وَاسْتَكْبَرَ

Transliteration

Thumma adbara wastakbar

Yusuf Ali

Then he turned back and was haughty;

74:23

فَقَالَ إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا سِحْرٌ يُؤْثَرُ

Transliteration

Faqala in hatha illa sihrunyu/thar

Yusuf Ali

Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old;

74:24

إِنْ هَٰذَا إِلَّا قَوْلُ الْبَشَرِ

Transliteration

In hatha illa qawlu albashar

Yusuf Ali

"This is nothing but the word of a mortal!"

74:25

سَأُصْلِيهِ سَقَرَ

Transliteration

Saosleehi saqar

Yusuf Ali

Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire!

74:26

وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا سَقَرُ

Transliteration

Wama adraka ma saqar

Yusuf Ali

And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is?

74:27

لَا تُبْقِي وَلَا تَذَرُ

Transliteration

La tubqee wala tathar

Yusuf Ali

Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!-

74:28

لَوَّاحَةٌ لِلْبَشَرِ

Transliteration

Lawwahatun lilbashar

Yusuf Ali

Darkening and changing the colour of man!

74:29

عَلَيْهَا تِسْعَةَ عَشَرَ

Transliteration

AAalayha tisAAata AAashar

Yusuf Ali

Over it are Nineteen.

74:30

وَمَا جَعَلْنَا أَصْحَابَ النَّارِ إِلَّا مَلَائِكَةً ۙ وَمَا جَعَلْنَا عِدَّتَهُمْ إِلَّا فِتْنَةً لِلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا لِيَسْتَيْقِنَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ وَيَزْدَادَ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِيمَانًا ۙ وَلَا يَرْتَابَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ ۙ وَلِيَقُولَ الَّذِينَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ مَرَضٌ وَالْكَافِرُونَ مَاذَا أَرَادَ اللَّهُ بِهَٰذَا مَثَلًا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ اللَّهُ مَنْ يَشَاءُ وَيَهْدِي مَنْ يَشَاءُ ۚ وَمَا يَعْلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۚ وَمَا هِيَ إِلَّا ذِكْرَىٰ لِلْبَشَرِ

Transliteration

Wama jaAAalna as-habaannari illa mala-ikatan wamajaAAalna AAiddatahum illa fitnatan lillatheenakafaroo liyastayqina allatheena ootoo alkitabawayazdada allatheena amanoo eemananwala yartaba allatheena ootoo alkitabawalmu/minoona waliyaqoola allatheena feequloobihim maradun walkafiroona mathaarada Allahu bihatha mathalan kathalikayudillu Allahu man yashao wayahdee man yashaowama yaAAlamu junooda rabbika illa huwa wamahiya illa thikra lilbashar

Yusuf Ali

And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind.

74:31

كَلَّا وَالْقَمَرِ

Transliteration

Kalla walqamar

Yusuf Ali

Nay, verily: By the Moon,

74:32

وَاللَّيْلِ إِذْ أَدْبَرَ

Transliteration

Wallayli ith adbar

Yusuf Ali

And by the Night as it retreateth,

74:33

وَالصُّبْحِ إِذَا أَسْفَرَ

Transliteration

Wassubhi ithaasfar

Yusuf Ali

And by the Dawn as it shineth forth,-

74:34

إِنَّهَا لَإِحْدَى الْكُبَرِ

Transliteration

Innaha la-ihda alkubar

Yusuf Ali

This is but one of the mighty (portents),

74:35

نَذِيرًا لِلْبَشَرِ

Transliteration

Natheeran lilbashar

Yusuf Ali

A warning to mankind,-

74:36

لِمَنْ شَاءَ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ يَتَقَدَّمَ أَوْ يَتَأَخَّرَ

Transliteration

Liman shaa minkum an yataqaddama awyataakhkhar

Yusuf Ali

To any of you that chooses to press forward, or to follow behind;-

74:37

كُلُّ نَفْسٍ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ رَهِينَةٌ

Transliteration

Kullu nafsin bima kasabat raheena

Yusuf Ali

Every soul will be (held) in pledge for its deeds.

74:38

إِلَّا أَصْحَابَ الْيَمِينِ

Transliteration

Illa as-haba alyameen

Yusuf Ali

Except the Companions of the Right Hand.

74:39

فِي جَنَّاتٍ يَتَسَاءَلُونَ

Transliteration

Fee jannatin yatasaaloon

Yusuf Ali

(They will be) in Gardens (of Delight): they will question each other,

74:40

عَنِ الْمُجْرِمِينَ

Transliteration

AAani almujrimeen

Yusuf Ali

And (ask) of the Sinners:

74:41

مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِي سَقَرَ

Transliteration

Ma salakakum fee saqar

Yusuf Ali

"What led you into Hell Fire?"

74:42

قَالُوا لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ الْمُصَلِّينَ

Transliteration

Qaloo lam naku mina almusalleen

Yusuf Ali

They will say: "We were not of those who prayed;

74:43

وَلَمْ نَكُ نُطْعِمُ الْمِسْكِينَ

Transliteration

Walam naku nutAAimu almiskeen

Yusuf Ali

"Nor were we of those who fed the indigent;

74:44

وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ الْخَائِضِينَ

Transliteration

Wakunna nakhoodu maAAa alkha-ideen

Yusuf Ali

"But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers;

74:45

وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوْمِ الدِّينِ

Transliteration

Wakunna nukaththibu biyawmi addeen

Yusuf Ali

"And we used to deny the Day of Judgment,

74:46

حَتَّىٰ أَتَانَا الْيَقِينُ

Transliteration

Hatta atanaalyaqeen

Yusuf Ali

"Until there came to us (the Hour) that is certain."

74:47

فَمَا تَنْفَعُهُمْ شَفَاعَةُ الشَّافِعِينَ

Transliteration

Fama tanfaAAuhum shafaAAatu ashshafiAAeen

Yusuf Ali

Then will no intercession of (any) intercessors profit them.

74:48

فَمَا لَهُمْ عَنِ التَّذْكِرَةِ مُعْرِضِينَ

Transliteration

Fama lahum AAani attathkiratimuAArideen

Yusuf Ali

Then what is the matter with them that they turn away from admonition?-

74:49

كَأَنَّهُمْ حُمُرٌ مُسْتَنْفِرَةٌ

Transliteration

Kaannahum humurun mustanfira

Yusuf Ali

As if they were affrighted asses,

74:50

فَرَّتْ مِنْ قَسْوَرَةٍ

Transliteration

Farrat min qaswara

Yusuf Ali

Fleeing from a lion!

74:51

بَلْ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ امْرِئٍ مِنْهُمْ أَنْ يُؤْتَىٰ صُحُفًا مُنَشَّرَةً

Transliteration

Bal yureedu kullu imri-in minhum an yu/tasuhufan munashshara

Yusuf Ali

Forsooth, each one of them wants to be given scrolls (of revelation) spread out!

74:52

كَلَّا ۖ بَلْ لَا يَخَافُونَ الْآخِرَةَ

Transliteration

Kalla bal la yakhafoonaal-akhira

Yusuf Ali

By no means! But they fear not the Hereafter,

74:53

كَلَّا إِنَّهُ تَذْكِرَةٌ

Transliteration

Kalla innahu tathkira

Yusuf Ali

Nay, this surely is an admonition:

74:54

فَمَنْ شَاءَ ذَكَرَهُ

Transliteration

Faman shaa thakarah

Yusuf Ali

Let any who will, keep it in remembrance!

74:55

وَمَا يَذْكُرُونَ إِلَّا أَنْ يَشَاءَ اللَّهُ ۚ هُوَ أَهْلُ التَّقْوَىٰ وَأَهْلُ الْمَغْفِرَةِ

Transliteration

Wama yathkuroona illaan yashaa Allahu huwa ahlu attaqwawaahlu almaghfirat

Yusuf Ali

But none will keep it in remembrance except as Allah wills: He is the Lord of Righteousness, and the Lord of Forgiveness.

74:56

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Transliteration

Bismi Allahi arrahmani arraheem

Yusuf Ali

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

لَا أُقْسِمُ بِيَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ

Transliteration

La oqsimu biyawmi alqiyamat

Yusuf Ali

I do call to witness the Resurrection Day;

75:1

وَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِالنَّفْسِ اللَّوَّامَةِ

Transliteration

Wala oqsimu binnafsi allawwamat

Yusuf Ali

And I do call to witness the self-reproaching spirit: (Eschew Evil).

75:2

أَيَحْسَبُ الْإِنْسَانُ أَلَّنْ نَجْمَعَ عِظَامَهُ

Transliteration

Ayahsabu al-insanu allannajmaAAa AAithamah

Yusuf Ali

Does man think that We cannot assemble his bones?

75:3

بَلَىٰ قَادِرِينَ عَلَىٰ أَنْ نُسَوِّيَ بَنَانَهُ

Transliteration

Bala qadireena AAala annusawwiya bananah

Yusuf Ali

Nay, We are able to put together in perfect order the very tips of his fingers.

75:4

بَلْ يُرِيدُ الْإِنْسَانُ لِيَفْجُرَ أَمَامَهُ

Transliteration

Bal yureedu al-insanu liyafjura amamah

Yusuf Ali

But man wishes to do wrong (even) in the time in front of him.

75:5

يَسْأَلُ أَيَّانَ يَوْمُ الْقِيَامَةِ

Transliteration

Yas-alu ayyana yawmu alqiyama

Yusuf Ali

He questions: "When is the Day of Resurrection?"

75:6

فَإِذَا بَرِقَ الْبَصَرُ

Transliteration

Fa-itha bariqa albasar

Yusuf Ali

At length, when the sight is dazed,

75:7

وَخَسَفَ الْقَمَرُ

Transliteration

Wakhasafa alqamar

Yusuf Ali

And the moon is buried in darkness.

75:8

وَجُمِعَ الشَّمْسُ وَالْقَمَرُ

Transliteration

WajumiAAa ashshamsu walqamar

Yusuf Ali

And the sun and moon are joined together,-

75:9

يَقُولُ الْإِنْسَانُ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَيْنَ الْمَفَرُّ

Transliteration

Yaqoolu al-insanu yawma-ithinayna almafar

Yusuf Ali

That Day will Man say: "Where is the refuge?"

75:10

كَلَّا لَا وَزَرَ

Transliteration

Kalla la wazar

Yusuf Ali

By no means! No place of safety!

75:11

إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ الْمُسْتَقَرُّ

Transliteration

Ila rabbika yawma-ithinalmustaqar

Yusuf Ali

Before thy Lord (alone), that Day will be the place of rest.

75:12

يُنَبَّأُ الْإِنْسَانُ يَوْمَئِذٍ بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَأَخَّرَ

Transliteration

Yunabbao al-insanu yawma-ithinbima qaddama waakhkhar

Yusuf Ali

That Day will Man be told (all) that he put forward, and all that he put back.

75:13

بَلِ الْإِنْسَانُ عَلَىٰ نَفْسِهِ بَصِيرَةٌ

Transliteration

Bali al-insanu AAala nafsihibaseera

Yusuf Ali

Nay, man will be evidence against himself,

75:14

وَلَوْ أَلْقَىٰ مَعَاذِيرَهُ

Transliteration

Walaw alqa maAAatheerah

Yusuf Ali

Even though he were to put up his excuses.

75:15

لَا تُحَرِّكْ بِهِ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعْجَلَ بِهِ

Transliteration

La tuharrik bihi lisanakalitaAAjala bih

Yusuf Ali

Move not thy tongue concerning the (Qur'an) to make haste therewith.

75:16

إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا جَمْعَهُ وَقُرْآنَهُ

Transliteration

Inna AAalayna jamAAahu waqur-anah

Yusuf Ali

It is for Us to collect it and to promulgate it:

75:17

فَإِذَا قَرَأْنَاهُ فَاتَّبِعْ قُرْآنَهُ

Transliteration

Fa-itha qara/nahu fattabiAAqur-anah

Yusuf Ali

But when We have promulgated it, follow thou its recital (as promulgated):

75:18

ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا بَيَانَهُ

Transliteration

Thumma inna AAalayna bayanah

Yusuf Ali

Nay more, it is for Us to explain it (and make it clear):

75:19

كَلَّا بَلْ تُحِبُّونَ الْعَاجِلَةَ

Transliteration

Kalla bal tuhibboona alAAajila

Yusuf Ali

Nay, (ye men!) but ye love the fleeting life,

75:20

وَتَذَرُونَ الْآخِرَةَ

Transliteration

Watatharoona al-akhira

Yusuf Ali

And leave alone the Hereafter.

75:21

وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَاضِرَةٌ

Transliteration

Wujoohun yawma-ithin nadira

Yusuf Ali

Some faces, that Day, will beam (in brightness and beauty);-

75:22

إِلَىٰ رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةٌ

Transliteration

Ila rabbiha nathira

Yusuf Ali

Looking towards their Lord;

75:23

وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ بَاسِرَةٌ

Transliteration

Wawujoohun yawma-ithin basira

Yusuf Ali

And some faces, that Day, will be sad and dismal,

75:24

تَظُنُّ أَنْ يُفْعَلَ بِهَا فَاقِرَةٌ

Transliteration

Tathunnu an yufAAala bihafaqira

Yusuf Ali

In the thought that some back-breaking calamity was about to be inflicted on them;

75:25

كَلَّا إِذَا بَلَغَتِ التَّرَاقِيَ

Transliteration

Kalla itha balaghati attaraqiy

Yusuf Ali

Yea, when (the soul) reaches to the collar-bone (in its exit),

75:26

وَقِيلَ مَنْ ۜ رَاقٍ

Transliteration

Waqeela man raq

Yusuf Ali

And there will be a cry, "Who is a magician (to restore him)?"

75:27

وَظَنَّ أَنَّهُ الْفِرَاقُ

Transliteration

Wathanna annahu alfiraq

Yusuf Ali

And he will conclude that it was (the Time) of Parting;

75:28

وَالْتَفَّتِ السَّاقُ بِالسَّاقِ

Transliteration

Waltaffati assaqu bilssaq

Yusuf Ali

And one leg will be joined with another:

75:29

إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ يَوْمَئِذٍ الْمَسَاقُ

Transliteration

Ila rabbika yawma-ithin almasaq

Yusuf Ali

That Day the Drive will be (all) to thy Lord!

75:30

فَلَا صَدَّقَ وَلَا صَلَّىٰ

Transliteration

Fala saddaqa wala salla

Yusuf Ali

So he gave nothing in charity, nor did he pray!-

75:31

وَلَٰكِنْ كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ

Transliteration

Walakin kaththaba watawalla

Yusuf Ali

But on the contrary, he rejected Truth and turned away!

75:32

ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ إِلَىٰ أَهْلِهِ يَتَمَطَّىٰ

Transliteration

Thumma thahaba ila ahlihiyatamatta

Yusuf Ali

Then did he stalk to his family in full conceit!

75:33

أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰ

Transliteration

Awla laka faawla

Yusuf Ali

Woe to thee, (O men!), yea, woe!

75:34

ثُمَّ أَوْلَىٰ لَكَ فَأَوْلَىٰ

Transliteration

Thumma awla laka faawla

Yusuf Ali

Again, Woe to thee, (O men!), yea, woe!

75:35

أَيَحْسَبُ الْإِنْسَانُ أَنْ يُتْرَكَ سُدًى

Transliteration

Ayahsabu al-insanu an yutrakasuda

Yusuf Ali

Does man think that he will be left uncontrolled, (without purpose)?

75:36

أَلَمْ يَكُ نُطْفَةً مِنْ مَنِيٍّ يُمْنَىٰ

Transliteration

Alam yaku nutfatan min manayyin yumna

Yusuf Ali

Was he not a drop of sperm emitted (in lowly form)?

75:37

ثُمَّ كَانَ عَلَقَةً فَخَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ

Transliteration

Thumma kana AAalaqatan fakhalaqafasawwa

Yusuf Ali

Then did he become a leech-like clot; then did (Allah) make and fashion (him) in due proportion.

75:38

فَجَعَلَ مِنْهُ الزَّوْجَيْنِ الذَّكَرَ وَالْأُنْثَىٰ

Transliteration

FajaAAala minhu azzawjayni aththakarawal-ontha

Yusuf Ali

And of him He made two sexes, male and female.

75:39

أَلَيْسَ ذَٰلِكَ بِقَادِرٍ عَلَىٰ أَنْ يُحْيِيَ الْمَوْتَىٰ

Transliteration

Alaysa thalika biqadirin AAalaan yuhyiya almawta

Yusuf Ali

Has not He, (the same), the power to give life to the dead?

75:40

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Transliteration

Bismi Allahi arrahmani arraheem

Yusuf Ali

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

هَلْ أَتَىٰ عَلَى الْإِنْسَانِ حِينٌ مِنَ الدَّهْرِ لَمْ يَكُنْ شَيْئًا مَذْكُورًا

Transliteration

Hal ata AAala al-insani heenunmina addahri lam yakun shay-an mathkoora

Yusuf Ali

Has there not been over Man a long period of Time, when he was nothing - (not even) mentioned?

76:1

إِنَّا خَلَقْنَا الْإِنْسَانَ مِنْ نُطْفَةٍ أَمْشَاجٍ نَبْتَلِيهِ فَجَعَلْنَاهُ سَمِيعًا بَصِيرًا

Transliteration

Inna khalaqna al-insanamin nutfatin amshajin nabtaleehi fajaAAalnahusameeAAan baseera

Yusuf Ali

Verily We created Man from a drop of mingled sperm, in order to try him: So We gave him (the gifts), of Hearing and Sight.

76:2

إِنَّا هَدَيْنَاهُ السَّبِيلَ إِمَّا شَاكِرًا وَإِمَّا كَفُورًا

Transliteration

Inna hadaynahu assabeelaimma shakiran wa-imma kafoora

Yusuf Ali

We showed him the Way: whether he be grateful or ungrateful (rests on his will).

76:3

إِنَّا أَعْتَدْنَا لِلْكَافِرِينَ سَلَاسِلَ وَأَغْلَالًا وَسَعِيرًا

Transliteration

Inna aAAtadna lilkafireenasalasila waaghlalan wasaAAeera

Yusuf Ali

For the Rejecters we have prepared chains, yokes, and a blazing Fire.

76:4

إِنَّ الْأَبْرَارَ يَشْرَبُونَ مِنْ كَأْسٍ كَانَ مِزَاجُهَا كَافُورًا

Transliteration

Inna al-abrara yashraboona min ka/sinkana mizajuha kafoora

Yusuf Ali

As to the Righteous, they shall drink of a Cup (of Wine) mixed with Kafur,-

76:5

عَيْنًا يَشْرَبُ بِهَا عِبَادُ اللَّهِ يُفَجِّرُونَهَا تَفْجِيرًا

Transliteration

AAaynan yashrabu biha AAibaduAllahi yufajjiroonaha tafjeera

Yusuf Ali

A Fountain where the Devotees of Allah do drink, making it flow in unstinted abundance.

76:6

يُوفُونَ بِالنَّذْرِ وَيَخَافُونَ يَوْمًا كَانَ شَرُّهُ مُسْتَطِيرًا

Transliteration

Yoofoona binnathri wayakhafoonayawman kana sharruhu mustateera

Yusuf Ali

They perform (their) vows, and they fear a Day whose evil flies far and wide.

76:7

وَيُطْعِمُونَ الطَّعَامَ عَلَىٰ حُبِّهِ مِسْكِينًا وَيَتِيمًا وَأَسِيرًا

Transliteration

WayutAAimona attaAAamaAAala hubbihi miskeenan wayateeman waaseera

Yusuf Ali

And they feed, for the love of Allah, the indigent, the orphan, and the captive,-

76:8

إِنَّمَا نُطْعِمُكُمْ لِوَجْهِ اللَّهِ لَا نُرِيدُ مِنْكُمْ جَزَاءً وَلَا شُكُورًا

Transliteration

Innama nutAAimukum liwajhi Allahila nureedu minkum jazaan wala shukoora

Yusuf Ali

(Saying),"We feed you for the sake of Allah alone: no reward do we desire from you, nor thanks.

76:9

إِنَّا نَخَافُ مِنْ رَبِّنَا يَوْمًا عَبُوسًا قَمْطَرِيرًا

Transliteration

Inna nakhafu min rabbinayawman AAaboosan qamtareera

Yusuf Ali

"We only fear a Day of distressful Wrath from the side of our Lord."

76:10

فَوَقَاهُمُ اللَّهُ شَرَّ ذَٰلِكَ الْيَوْمِ وَلَقَّاهُمْ نَضْرَةً وَسُرُورًا

Transliteration

Fawaqahumu Allahu sharra thalikaalyawmi walaqqahum nadratan wasuroora

Yusuf Ali

But Allah will deliver them from the evil of that Day, and will shed over them a Light of Beauty and (blissful) Joy.

76:11

وَجَزَاهُمْ بِمَا صَبَرُوا جَنَّةً وَحَرِيرًا

Transliteration

Wajazahum bima sabaroojannatan wahareera

Yusuf Ali

And because they were patient and constant, He will reward them with a Garden and (garments of) silk.

76:12

مُتَّكِئِينَ فِيهَا عَلَى الْأَرَائِكِ ۖ لَا يَرَوْنَ فِيهَا شَمْسًا وَلَا زَمْهَرِيرًا

Transliteration

Muttaki-eena feeha AAala al-ara-ikila yarawna feeha shamsan wala zamhareera

Yusuf Ali

Reclining in the (Garden) on raised thrones, they will see there neither the sun's (excessive heat) nor (the moon's) excessive cold.

76:13

وَدَانِيَةً عَلَيْهِمْ ظِلَالُهَا وَذُلِّلَتْ قُطُوفُهَا تَذْلِيلًا

Transliteration

Wadaniyatan AAalayhim thilaluhawathullilat qutoofuha tathleela

Yusuf Ali

And the shades of the (Garden) will come low over them, and the bunches (of fruit), there, will hang low in humility.

76:14

وَيُطَافُ عَلَيْهِمْ بِآنِيَةٍ مِنْ فِضَّةٍ وَأَكْوَابٍ كَانَتْ قَوَارِيرَا

Transliteration

Wayutafu AAalayhim bi-aniyatinmin fiddatin waakwabin kanat qawareera

Yusuf Ali

And amongst them will be passedround vessels of silver and goblets of crystal,-

76:15

قَوَارِيرَ مِنْ فِضَّةٍ قَدَّرُوهَا تَقْدِيرًا

Transliteration

Qawareera min fiddatinqaddarooha taqdeera

Yusuf Ali

Crystal-clear, made of silver: they will determine the measure thereof (according to their wishes).

76:16

وَيُسْقَوْنَ فِيهَا كَأْسًا كَانَ مِزَاجُهَا زَنْجَبِيلًا

Transliteration

Wayusqawna feeha ka/san kanamizajuha zanjabeela

Yusuf Ali

And they will be given to drink there of a Cup (of Wine) mixed with Zanjabil,-

76:17

عَيْنًا فِيهَا تُسَمَّىٰ سَلْسَبِيلًا

Transliteration

AAaynan feeha tusammasalsabeela

Yusuf Ali

A fountain there, called Salsabil.

76:18

۞ وَيَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَانٌ مُخَلَّدُونَ إِذَا رَأَيْتَهُمْ حَسِبْتَهُمْ لُؤْلُؤًا مَنْثُورًا

Transliteration

Wayatoofu AAalayhim wildanunmukhalladoona itha raaytahum hasibtahum lu/lu-anmanthoora

Yusuf Ali

And round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness): If thou seest them, thou wouldst think them scattered Pearls.

76:19

وَإِذَا رَأَيْتَ ثَمَّ رَأَيْتَ نَعِيمًا وَمُلْكًا كَبِيرًا

Transliteration

Wa-itha raayta thamma raaytanaAAeeman wamulkan kabeera

Yusuf Ali

And when thou lookest, it is there thou wilt see a Bliss and a Realm Magnificent.

76:20

عَالِيَهُمْ ثِيَابُ سُنْدُسٍ خُضْرٌ وَإِسْتَبْرَقٌ ۖ وَحُلُّوا أَسَاوِرَ مِنْ فِضَّةٍ وَسَقَاهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ شَرَابًا طَهُورًا

Transliteration

AAaliyahum thiyabu sundusinkhudrun wa-istabraqun wahulloo asawira minfiddatin wasaqahum rabbuhum sharaban tahoora

Yusuf Ali

Upon them will be green Garments of fine silk and heavy brocade, and they will be adorned with Bracelets of silver; and their Lord will give to them to drink of a Wine Pure and Holy.

76:21

إِنَّ هَٰذَا كَانَ لَكُمْ جَزَاءً وَكَانَ سَعْيُكُمْ مَشْكُورًا

Transliteration

Inna hatha kana lakum jazaanwakana saAAyukum mashkoora

Yusuf Ali

"Verily this is a Reward for you, and your Endeavour is accepted and recognised."

76:22

إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا عَلَيْكَ الْقُرْآنَ تَنْزِيلًا

Transliteration

Inna nahnu nazzalnaAAalayka alqur-ana tanzeela

Yusuf Ali

It is We Who have sent down the Qur'an to thee by stages.

76:23

فَاصْبِرْ لِحُكْمِ رَبِّكَ وَلَا تُطِعْ مِنْهُمْ آثِمًا أَوْ كَفُورًا

Transliteration

Fasbir lihukmi rabbikawala tutiAA minhum athiman aw kafoora

Yusuf Ali

Therefore be patient with constancy to the Command of thy Lord, and hearken not to the sinner or the ingrate among them.

76:24

وَاذْكُرِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ بُكْرَةً وَأَصِيلًا

Transliteration

Wathkuri isma rabbikabukratan waaseela

Yusuf Ali

And celebrate the name of thy Lord morning and evening,

76:25

وَمِنَ اللَّيْلِ فَاسْجُدْ لَهُ وَسَبِّحْهُ لَيْلًا طَوِيلًا

Transliteration

Wamina allayli fasjud lahu wasabbihhulaylan taweela

Yusuf Ali

And part of the night, prostrate thyself to Him; and glorify Him a long night through.

76:26

إِنَّ هَٰؤُلَاءِ يُحِبُّونَ الْعَاجِلَةَ وَيَذَرُونَ وَرَاءَهُمْ يَوْمًا ثَقِيلًا

Transliteration

Inna haola-i yuhibboonaalAAajilata wayatharoona waraahum yawmanthaqeela

Yusuf Ali

As to these, they love the fleeting life, and put away behind them a Day (that will be) hard.

76:27

نَحْنُ خَلَقْنَاهُمْ وَشَدَدْنَا أَسْرَهُمْ ۖ وَإِذَا شِئْنَا بَدَّلْنَا أَمْثَالَهُمْ تَبْدِيلًا

Transliteration

Nahnu khalaqnahum washadadnaasrahum wa-itha shi/na baddalna amthalahumtabdeela

Yusuf Ali

It is We Who created them, and We have made their joints strong; but, when We will, We can substitute the like of them by a complete change.

76:28

إِنَّ هَٰذِهِ تَذْكِرَةٌ ۖ فَمَنْ شَاءَ اتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِ سَبِيلًا

Transliteration

Inna hathihi tathkiratun famanshaa ittakhatha ila rabbihi sabeela

Yusuf Ali

This is an admonition: Whosoever will, let him take a (straight) Path to his Lord.

76:29

وَمَا تَشَاءُونَ إِلَّا أَنْ يَشَاءَ اللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ كَانَ عَلِيمًا حَكِيمًا

Transliteration

Wama tashaoona illa anyashaa Allahu inna Allaha kanaAAaleeman hakeema

Yusuf Ali

But ye will not, except as Allah wills; for Allah is full of Knowledge and Wisdom.

76:30

يُدْخِلُ مَنْ يَشَاءُ فِي رَحْمَتِهِ ۚ وَالظَّالِمِينَ أَعَدَّ لَهُمْ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًا

Transliteration

Yudkhilu man yashao fee rahmatihiwaththalimeena aAAadda lahum AAathabanaleema

Yusuf Ali

He will admit to His Mercy whom He will; But the wrong-doers,- for them has He prepared a grievous Penalty.

76:31

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Transliteration

Bismi Allahi arrahmani arraheem

Yusuf Ali

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

وَالْمُرْسَلَاتِ عُرْفًا

Transliteration

Walmursalati AAurfa

Yusuf Ali

By the (Winds) sent forth one after another (to man's profit);

77:1

فَالْعَاصِفَاتِ عَصْفًا

Transliteration

FalAAasifati AAasfa

Yusuf Ali

Which then blow violently in tempestuous Gusts,

77:2

وَالنَّاشِرَاتِ نَشْرًا

Transliteration

Wannashirati nashra

Yusuf Ali

And scatter (things) far and wide;

77:3

فَالْفَارِقَاتِ فَرْقًا

Transliteration

Falfariqati farqa

Yusuf Ali

Then separate them, one from another,

77:4

فَالْمُلْقِيَاتِ ذِكْرًا

Transliteration

Falmulqiyati thikra

Yusuf Ali

Then spread abroad a Message,

77:5

عُذْرًا أَوْ نُذْرًا

Transliteration

AAuthran aw nuthra

Yusuf Ali

Whether of Justification or of Warning;-

77:6

إِنَّمَا تُوعَدُونَ لَوَاقِعٌ

Transliteration

Innama tooAAadoona lawaqiAA

Yusuf Ali

Assuredly, what ye are promised must come to pass.

77:7

فَإِذَا النُّجُومُ طُمِسَتْ

Transliteration

Fa-itha annujoomu tumisat

Yusuf Ali

Then when the stars become dim;

77:8

وَإِذَا السَّمَاءُ فُرِجَتْ

Transliteration

Wa-itha assamao furijat

Yusuf Ali

When the heaven is cleft asunder;

77:9

وَإِذَا الْجِبَالُ نُسِفَتْ

Transliteration

Wa-itha aljibalu nusifat

Yusuf Ali

When the mountains are scattered (to the winds) as dust;

77:10

وَإِذَا الرُّسُلُ أُقِّتَتْ

Transliteration

Wa-itha arrusulu oqqitat

Yusuf Ali

And when the messengers are (all) appointed a time (to collect);-

77:11

لِأَيِّ يَوْمٍ أُجِّلَتْ

Transliteration

Li-ayyi yawmin ojjilat

Yusuf Ali

For what Day are these (portents) deferred?

77:12

لِيَوْمِ الْفَصْلِ

Transliteration

Liyawmi alfasl

Yusuf Ali

For the Day of Sorting out.

77:13

وَمَا أَدْرَاكَ مَا يَوْمُ الْفَصْلِ

Transliteration

Wama adraka ma yawmualfasl

Yusuf Ali

And what will explain to thee what is the Day of Sorting out?

77:14

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Transliteration

Waylun yawma-ithin lilmukaththibeen

Yusuf Ali

Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!

77:15

أَلَمْ نُهْلِكِ الْأَوَّلِينَ

Transliteration

Alam nuhliki al-awwaleen

Yusuf Ali

Did We not destroy the men of old (for their evil)?

77:16

ثُمَّ نُتْبِعُهُمُ الْآخِرِينَ

Transliteration

Thumma nutbiAAuhumu al-akhireen

Yusuf Ali

So shall We make later (generations) follow them.

77:17

كَذَٰلِكَ نَفْعَلُ بِالْمُجْرِمِينَ

Transliteration

Kathalika nafAAalu bilmujrimeen

Yusuf Ali

Thus do We deal with men of sin.

77:18

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Transliteration

Waylun yawma-ithin lilmukaththibeen

Yusuf Ali

Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!

77:19

أَلَمْ نَخْلُقْكُمْ مِنْ مَاءٍ مَهِينٍ

Transliteration

Alam nakhluqkum min ma-in maheen

Yusuf Ali

Have We not created you from a fluid (held) despicable?-

77:20

فَجَعَلْنَاهُ فِي قَرَارٍ مَكِينٍ

Transliteration

FajaAAalnahu fee qararinmakeen

Yusuf Ali

The which We placed in a place of rest, firmly fixed,

77:21

إِلَىٰ قَدَرٍ مَعْلُومٍ

Transliteration

Ila qadarin maAAloom

Yusuf Ali

For a period (of gestation), determined (according to need)?

77:22

فَقَدَرْنَا فَنِعْمَ الْقَادِرُونَ

Transliteration

Faqadarna faniAAma alqadiroon

Yusuf Ali

For We do determine (according to need); for We are the best to determine (things).

77:23

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Transliteration

Waylun yawma-ithin lilmukaththibeen

Yusuf Ali

Ah woe, that Day! to the Rejecters of Truth!

77:24

أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ الْأَرْضَ كِفَاتًا

Transliteration

Alam najAAali al-arda kifata

Yusuf Ali

Have We not made the earth (as a place) to draw together.

77:25

أَحْيَاءً وَأَمْوَاتًا

Transliteration

Ahyaan waamwata

Yusuf Ali

The living and the dead,

77:26

وَجَعَلْنَا فِيهَا رَوَاسِيَ شَامِخَاتٍ وَأَسْقَيْنَاكُمْ مَاءً فُرَاتًا

Transliteration

WajaAAalna feeha rawasiyashamikhatin waasqaynakum maan furata

Yusuf Ali

And made therein mountains standing firm, lofty (in stature); and provided for you water sweet (and wholesome)?

77:27

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Transliteration

Waylun yawma-ithin lilmukaththibeen

Yusuf Ali

Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!

77:28

انْطَلِقُوا إِلَىٰ مَا كُنْتُمْ بِهِ تُكَذِّبُونَ

Transliteration

Intaliqoo ila ma kuntumbihi tukaththiboon

Yusuf Ali

(It will be said:) "Depart ye to that which ye used to reject as false!

77:29

انْطَلِقُوا إِلَىٰ ظِلٍّ ذِي ثَلَاثِ شُعَبٍ

Transliteration

Intaliqoo ila thillinthee thalathi shuAAab

Yusuf Ali

"Depart ye to a Shadow (of smoke ascending) in three columns,

77:30

لَا ظَلِيلٍ وَلَا يُغْنِي مِنَ اللَّهَبِ

Transliteration

La thaleelin walayughnee mina allahab

Yusuf Ali

"(Which yields) no shade of coolness, and is of no use against the fierce Blaze.

77:31

إِنَّهَا تَرْمِي بِشَرَرٍ كَالْقَصْرِ

Transliteration

Innaha tarmee bishararin kalqasr

Yusuf Ali

"Indeed it throws about sparks (huge) as Forts,

77:32

كَأَنَّهُ جِمَالَتٌ صُفْرٌ

Transliteration

Kaannahu jimalatun sufr

Yusuf Ali

"As if there were (a string of) yellow camels (marching swiftly)."

77:33

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Transliteration

Waylun yawma-ithin lilmukaththibeen

Yusuf Ali

Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!

77:34

هَٰذَا يَوْمُ لَا يَنْطِقُونَ

Transliteration

Hatha yawmu la yantiqoon

Yusuf Ali

That will be a Day when they shall not be able to speak.

77:35

وَلَا يُؤْذَنُ لَهُمْ فَيَعْتَذِرُونَ

Transliteration

Wala yu/thanu lahum fayaAAtathiroon

Yusuf Ali

Nor will it be open to them to put forth please.

77:36

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Transliteration

Waylun yawma-ithin lilmukaththibeen

Yusuf Ali

Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!

77:37

هَٰذَا يَوْمُ الْفَصْلِ ۖ جَمَعْنَاكُمْ وَالْأَوَّلِينَ

Transliteration

Hatha yawmu alfasli jamaAAnakumwal-awwaleen

Yusuf Ali

That will be a Day of Sorting out! We shall gather you together and those before (you)!

77:38

فَإِنْ كَانَ لَكُمْ كَيْدٌ فَكِيدُونِ

Transliteration

Fa-in kana lakum kaydun fakeedoon

Yusuf Ali

Now, if ye have a trick (or plot), use it against Me!

77:39

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Transliteration

Waylun yawma-ithin lilmukaththibeen

Yusuf Ali

Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!

77:40

إِنَّ الْمُتَّقِينَ فِي ظِلَالٍ وَعُيُونٍ

Transliteration

Inna almuttaqeena fee thilalinwaAAuyoon

Yusuf Ali

As to the Righteous, they shall be amidst (cool) shades and springs (of water).

77:41

وَفَوَاكِهَ مِمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ

Transliteration

Wafawakiha mimma yashtahoon

Yusuf Ali

And (they shall have) fruits,- all they desire.

77:42

كُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا هَنِيئًا بِمَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ

Transliteration

Kuloo washraboo hanee-an bimakuntum taAAmaloon

Yusuf Ali

"Eat ye and drink ye to your heart's content: for that ye worked (Righteousness).

77:43

إِنَّا كَذَٰلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ

Transliteration

Inna kathalika najzee almuhsineen

Yusuf Ali

Thus do We certainly reward the Doers of Good.

77:44

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Transliteration

Waylun yawma-ithin lilmukaththibeen

Yusuf Ali

Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!

77:45

كُلُوا وَتَمَتَّعُوا قَلِيلًا إِنَّكُمْ مُجْرِمُونَ

Transliteration

Kuloo watamattaAAoo qaleelan innakummujrimoon

Yusuf Ali

(O ye unjust!) Eat ye and enjoy yourselves (but) a little while, for that ye are Sinners.

77:46

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Transliteration

Waylun yawma-ithin lilmukaththibeen

Yusuf Ali

Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!

77:47

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ ارْكَعُوا لَا يَرْكَعُونَ

Transliteration

Wa-itha qeela lahumu irkaAAoo layarkaAAoon

Yusuf Ali

And when it is said to them, "Prostrate yourselves!" they do not so.

77:48

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Transliteration

Waylun yawma-ithin lilmukaththibeen

Yusuf Ali

Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth!

77:49

فَبِأَيِّ حَدِيثٍ بَعْدَهُ يُؤْمِنُونَ

Transliteration

Fabi-ayyi hadeethin baAAdahuyu/minoon

Yusuf Ali

Then what Message, after that, will they believe in?

77:50
